Our DNA!
Days have been intense, joyful and exciting since the 1st day! Even with jet lag and after our first F2F meeting we had lunch together and then we went to IBM Indonesia’s offices, where we had an overview of IBM Indonesia and we met the country manager. We had a great time walking thru the offices and taking pictures on all the spots. We also visited the Data Center which is in the same building… we used crocs to get in!
This is one of my favorites pictures of our visit… Our DNA, our values! It is great being part of a company where we share the same values across the world.

After our great visit to IBM, we had a traditional Indonesian dinner at The Plaza which is the mall downstairs the IBM offices.

Sweets from all over the world!
Tumblr media
Saturday was our first face to face meeting with the team, we went through an introduction and warm welcome from the Pyxera Global team (Kelsey and Anim).
We played human bingo and we started discovering fun facts of each other.
We also had some time to share gifts and sweets from all over the world. I must recognize that Mexico was special, the 3 mexican ladies were coordinated before the trip and that surprised the rest of the team. Julia brought tequila shot glasses and Mexican sweets, Melody brought a lot of spicy sweets, peanuts, mexican toys and bags and I gave them a bag with a wrestling mask for the men and with a Mexican doll for the women.
It was a great team-building time!
The guys with their mexican wrestling masks!

...you say goodbye and I say HELLO!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second day of May, I had everything prepared in 2 suitcases and 1 carry-on... It was time to say good-bye to my country and to all the people that I love. 5 airports in 32 hours to get there (Guadalajara- Mexico City- Amsterdam- Kuala Lumpur- Jakarta).
Tumblr media
On our way, we found Guilherme Correia from Brazil, who was in Amsterdam to flight with us.
We arrived on May 4th around 8 p.m. to the Gran Melia Hotel, my home for the following month! As soon as we arrived we took a taxi to get to know the rest of the team that was having dinner. It was great to meet all of them in person, the energy was amazing, we exchanged hugs, kisses and welcomes in many languages!

MOM, DAD! I’m leaving… to pursue an Asian dream!

3 months passed by very quick, my family and some of my close friends arranged farewell dinners and also my adorable team prepared mexican snacks for me! Here are some of the pictures with my family, boyfriend and team during my last days in Guadalajara before coming to Jakarta.
During the last weekend I enjoyed my family and boyfriend the most. My nephew is almost 3 years old, and I usually spend 1 day in the weekend with him, the last days I tried to be close to him and as he loves trains, airplanes and cars, I explained him that I was going far on an airplane with tears in my eyes… He seemed to be excited with that :)
Something that I will never forget are the prayers from my pastors, family, boyfriend and 2 best friends the last Sunday before my trip, it was very special and I was full of peace and joy for the upcoming challenge!... God has blessed me during my whole life in many ways, but I know that this experience is one of His best gifts!!!

Guess who got her visa?!
So, let me continue with the story... We started what we call Pre-Work on February, 3 months of weekly meetings and homework to get prepared for our experience. We covered different topics: emotional intelligence, consulting, logistics and local culture.
During those 3 months, we had the opportunity to schedule 30 minutes with each of the team members to get to know each other before arriving to Jakarta. All the meetings that I had with each of them were great, I was so excited to share a month with talented people from 8 different countries: England, United States, Italy, Brazil, Hungary, Germany, India and Mexico.
One special thing in my team, was that there were other 2 Mexican ladies going to Jakarta as well: Julia (Guadalajara) and Melody (Mexico City). During the process of getting the visa, Melody, who lives in Mexico City offered to us to process the visa application for us, so we started chatting on WhatsApp frequently since then… For me, it was great because I wasn’t even traveling alone, I was representing Mexico with other 2 talented and fun women!
After few weeks, we got the visa and then… we realized that this was getting REAL!!!

Everything started almost 7 years back... when I joined IBM.
It was one of those e-mails that we receive often that caught me in the CSC program world. IBM CSC (Corporate Service Corps) was launched in 2008 to help communities around the world solve critical problems while providing IBM employees unique leadership development opportunities. I joined IBM in 2011 and since those days, I was just getting prepared to THIS BIG MOMENT... I got finally selected.
But let me give you some background on how I got selected. There are some basic requirements to apply to the CSC program: 2 full years of IBM tenure, good performance, support from upper management, fluent english and demonstrated community service. As soon as I met those requirements I added the CSC as part of my career plan and discussed it with my second line manager at that time (Ezequiel Caputo) who supported me and agreed that this was a great opportunity and a milestone in my career.
I applied for the first time in 2015 and I was not selected... only 10 to 12% of the IBMers that apply to this program are selected. An average of 2000 IBM employees around the world apply to this program every year, so I understood that I needed to keep preparing myself for the next year. In 2016 I didn’t apply, but in 2017 I was decided to go for the second try.
I submitted my application in June 2017 hoping for the best... and God responded to my prayers!... A call from my manager (Martha Cuevas) at 8 pm on October 14th confirmed my acceptance to the program! I couldn’t believe it! It was an epic moment!
After that day, I was just waiting for the day I could get THAT email from the CSC team with an invite... God heard and answered my prayers AGAIN and he sent me a Christmas gift 2 days before Christmas, it was an e-mail with this subject on it: CSC Assignment : Congratulations!! - You have been invited to join the Indonesia 9 - CSC Team
And now... I’m here, writing in my desk at my hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia with a huge smile on my face! (More posts coming...)
