Instead of the Dark Side, there's always a voice at the back of Obi-Wan's head that whispers "aren't you tired of being nice? don't you wanna go apeshit start acting like Qui-Gon?"

I like to think that Vulcans who come to understand that Humans just can’t try to process emotions the same way as them, it’s just healthiest to let it out in harmless ways, decide that venting and stuff should be taken just as seriously as Vulcan’s meditation time, and will encourage the Humans around them to complain about what’s upsetting them
People who are used to aloof Vulcans who avoid Humans at all cost running into one comforting a Human
“-and then they said my cheesecake was subpar, and they didn’t even bring a dish!!!”
“The purpose of this event was that every participant brings a food item of sorts, correct?”
“Yeah!!”
“And they did not follow this rule while insulting dishes that were brought?”
“Mostly just my dish but yeah >:(“
“How illogical”
“That’s what I’m saying!!!”

one of the best tips for Real Life that I’ve ever picked up is to always highball your estimate whenever someone asks you “when can you get this done by” by about 25% (if you can get away with it). that way, if it ends up being harder than you thought, you’ve got extra time to figure things out and if you were right about how much time it takes then you get to look like an absolute genius instead of just a simply competent person.
what you may not have realized is that I learned this crucial piece of life advice from an episode of Star Trek where Scotty is telling Geordi that whenever he told Kirk something on the Enterprise was at full capacity, it was always only ever a notch or so below full capacity so that Scotty looked like the god of all engineers when he was able to magically hack the warp drive to run a little beyond what he’d told everyone else was “full capacity” and honestly that one throwaway gag from Star Trek has changed my life.

The first thing about Obi-Wan Kenobi is that he’s not about sticking to the rules for their own sake, but because he believes in the benefits of overall structure and guidance. This is why he’s willing, at more than one point, to entirely leave the Jedi Order, because it’s not about the letter of the law for him, but about the spirit of it. He’s perfectly willing to step away from the “rules” if he believes there is a greater good.  Most of the time he does believe in the structure of the Order and their rules, he upholds them because they work. The second thing about Obi-Wan Kenobi is that he has a massive blind spot by the name of Anakin Skywalker. Obi-Wan is a smart guy, we see this over and over in the various canon installments, yet he entirely misses the things that are going wrong with Anakin–why?  How in the GALAXY can someone even reasonably intelligent miss that Anakin has all these problems?  Because Obi-Wan sort of does and sort of doesn’t.  He knows that Anakin has feelings for Padme, is probably having an affair with her, he’d have to be entirely dim not to notice! But he doesn’t say anything because he believes that the Jedi Order is still the best place for Anakin, the best structure for someone who desperately needs that in his life. He doesn’t say anything because it makes Anakin happy and Obi-Wan loves Anakin and wants him to be happy. He doesn’t say anything because Obi-Wan is not beholden to the letter of the law, when the spirit of the law is more important. He doesn’t say anything because the entire reason that Obi-Wan misses Anakin’s flaws is because he loves Anakin and is entirely biased about him, he cannot see that Anakin is falling further than Obi-Wan thinks he is because Obi-Wan believes in him, because Obi-Wan cares so much about him that he can’t be objective about him. So much of what’s obvious to the audience about Anakin’s fall entirely passes Obi-Wan by (despite that he is a smart character) because Anakin is Obi-Wan’s weakness, he’s the one person that Obi-Wan lets his feelings (his hopes, his wants, his love) get the better of him over.  Anakin is the one that Obi-Wan always made allowances for because Anakin was special. And that’s the tragedy of it, that Obi-Wan loved Anakin too much to be objective about him.

No Order 66 AU where Anakin leaves the Order after the war ends and he and Padme end up retiring to Naboo to try to raise the twins together, but neither of them ends up feeling particularly satisfied with life on Naboo (for Anakin it just doesn't give him any purpose the way he desperately needs and for Padme it's always been this perfect rosy dream and reality doesn't measure up), so they end up leaving the twins behind a lot so they can pursue other things and are pretty absentee parents in general. They mostly end up getting raised by Padme's parents instead, and while they're perfectly good guardians for the twins and raise them kindly and love them a lot, there's always an obvious elephant in the room regarding who ISN'T there.
This causes a bit of a rift between Luke and Leia because while Luke is trying to keep the peace and give their parents the benefit of the doubt as he moves on and figures out his own life with what he DOES have, Leia is less willing to just forgive and forget.
Luke ends up becoming a pilot working for the royal palace for a while, but Leia goes into politics (something she'd entered while younger because it's what her mother did and she'd been hoping it would get Padme's attention and bring the two of them closer; it didn't work out that way at all and now Leia's sticking with it at least partly to spite Padme) as an aide for her cousin Pooja who is now Senator of Naboo.
And it's here, once she finally makes it to Coruscant and starts working in the Senate, that Leia meets Bail Organa, still working as Senator of Alderaan. The two of them click IMMEDIATELY and Bail ends up becoming Leia's mentor in politics, as well as the person who actually introduces her to the Jedi themselves. Anakin and Padme had never really bothered to do so, both because they were so rarely around, but also because they had chosen not to give Luke and Leia to the Temple and decided at that point that it would be easier to keep the twins and the Jedi separate. Bail of course has no such compunctions and even if he knew about Anakin and Padme's feelings on the matter, I imagine he'd find ways to allow Leia to accidentally bump into some of the Jedi while she was on Coruscant. If he just so happens to double book himself for lunch with both Leia and Obi-Wan, it's hardly anything malicious and they may as well all eat together!
Leia finally feels like she has a parent who gives a damn about her, someone who acts like a parent to her, the parent she's always wanted. Her grandparents had always been incredibly kind and they obviously had to do a lot of parenting, but they'd always been very strict about making sure the twins saw them as GRANDPARENTS and not their actual parents, which just make the absence of their parents that much more obvious and painful. But with Bail, she's finally got someone who doesn't care that Anakin and Padme aren't there and doesn't feel the need to create a wall between them for Anakin and Padme's sake. Bail takes her under his wing, teaches her everything she knows, allows her to explore things she'd never been allowed to explore before, connects her to even more people who can help her understand herself better than she's ever been able to before. THIS is what a parent was supposed to do for her and she knows it, THIS is what selfless love looks like from a parent and she THRIVES under it for the first time in her life.
She eventually decides not to stay on as Pooja's aide because she has no real desire to become a senator for Naboo at any point, but she IS good at politics and desperately does want to help people any way she can, so she starts up some sort of organization of her own to help people around the galaxy (and connects it to the Jedi because deep down she KNOWS she was supposed to be one of them even though that path is now closed to her). But she doesn't go back to Naboo, she doesn't make her home on her mother's home planet.
She goes to Alderaan instead. And this time, she gets to stay there for the rest of her life.
#most realistic ‘padme and Anakin actually raise their children’ AU tbh#like they’re canonically very self-motivated and self-involved in their personal lives#so I think they’d - not necessarily forget but sort of miss the point of raising children#they’re impulsive and reactionary people (yes padme too!!! she’s compassionate and impulsive she can be both!!!) so they’d do a lot of -#’okay kids there’s an injustice occurring and it needs Me to fix it you’ll be good for dinner right? k xoxo don’t just eat ice cream’#and just do versions of that over and over and make excuses for the other parent too if it ever comes up; Anakin works so hard and cares -#so much; and padme works so hard and cares so much; the work we do is IMPORTANT kids#and no kid wants to be ungrateful so it all gets shoved down and accepted and a bit resented (yes by both twins!!!)#and then they get older and luke goes the way of ‘I have to forgive them for my own peace’ and leia goes ‘I can’t forgive them if I’m ever#going to find what I need for peace’#idk my brother and I have had very different perceptions of my parents and their flaws#and he v much went in the ‘there’s nothing to do they are what they are’ direction and I went more in the leia direction#so I’m also projecting hardcore on that front lmao#but I think it’s really important to know that it’s not right or wrong to have different thresholds of BS you put up with#esp in regards to parents; you can love them and recognize they failed you and you can do whatever you have to do to recover from that#in Leia’s case she adopts a senator named Bail and finds the love she needs#in Luke’s case he becomes a backpacking hippie with a fondness for desert planets#Luke would absolutely do the equivalent of the space Appalachian trail and come back for their once-a-year dinner with a giant beard#probably smelling like weed and sweat#and leia would be SO MAD that he managed to piss off their parents so bad without even trying and without even caring#in the ‘god I hate you you stupid fuck’ sibling way you know what I mean#also going back to MY family trauma for a sec it’s weird for my brother and I to be sort of switching roles a bit b/c I’m finally starting-#to make my peace with accepting my parents as they are after almost a decade of therapy#and he’s starting to get a bit more open with his resentment/difficulties with them in the last year or so#so like these positions can be static and also depend on where you’re at in life if you’re more on Luke’s end or leia’s end#it ain’t written in stone is all I’m saying parent-child relationships are so complex due to how deep even a bad relationship btwn them is#anyway I love pissing off Anakin so I hope Luke moves to tatooine and invites the entire fam there for space Christmas or whatever#and he and padme get into a huge argument b/c Anakin doesn’t want to go but padme doesn’t want Luke to go back to the space hiking trail#‘Anakin our son was doing shrooms and going to drum circles this is WAY better even if it is sand WE’RE GOING’#leia shows up with bail and his wife and Han and it’s the best space Xmas ever for everyone except Anakin and padme

Alpha-17 and Obi-Wan being friends (derogatory) on 17's part and friends (threatening) on Obi-Wan's part is such an underrated dynamic
They could be so funny and terrifying, like Obi-Wan went through a soul shredding experience with Alpha-17 as his only company. They're friends because what else are you gonna be after you witness each other at absolute rock bottom from torture.
It's like 'dog put in cage of cheetah who's threatening to go crazy', except the dog is a grizzly bear and also threatening to go crazy.
Emotional support trooper except the trooper in question has never done any sort of supporting in his life and is actively an emotional distress trooper to a great number of the CC batch.
I want them texting everyday, I want Obi-Wan mailing handmade BFF bracelets to Alpha and Alpha sending pics back of him flipping off the camera but still wearing them, I want Alpha using Obi-Wan to keep track of and occasionally terrorize his cadets, I want 17 ending problems in the GAR (like Krell) before they begin because Obi-Wan has him shipped out on a personal transport at the first opportunity, decked out with slug-throwers Obi-Wan got him for his decant-day.
Natborn officers think this is all just an odd indulgence of General Kenobi, the Vode, however, correctly identify it as a goddamn threat and their danger assessment of Obi-Wan ticks up significantly.
When Alpha arrives on Kamino, Shaak Ti presses a shiny new comm into his hand. It has the Jedi Order symbol painted onto it alongside a smiley face sticker, and it pings immediately with a new message: Hello! I hope you're settling in well!
Alpha stares at the message, stares at the singular contact named 'OWK' and then stares Shaak Ti in the eye as he pitches the comm straight into the ocean. Shaak Ti's serene smile only grows larger as she calmly reaches into her robes and pulls out an identical comm, only this one has a frowny face sticker, and presses it into his hand. It lights up: I'm afraid we've bonded, Alpha :). Alpha shuts it off and pockets it with resignation.
Cody arrives on Alpha-17's personal recommendation.
A-17: He's the most difficult little bastard I have. You're perfect for each other. OWK: Thank you, he's very handsome :3 A-17: No. Stop.
The first thing he asks once he gets comfortable is who his general is texting so much that has him swinging his legs and twirling his hair. Cody assumes it's Anakin, given they seem joint at the hip anyway, but little does he know Obi-Wan's ability to consistently have the Weirdest Relationships Ever.
"Oh, it's Alpha-17, I understand you're familiar with each other?" Hmm. OK. Cody.exe is experiencing a processing error, please hold. He exits the room instead of answering. The next day he peeks over the General's shoulder when he's texting and sees walls of rambling messages from Obi-Wan. Alpha-17 replies every hour with a single text: Lose this number. Obi-Wan giggles. "He's so funny." he says.
When Obi-Wan meets the rest of the CC batch, Cody makes sure to stand perfectly angled so that he can record the reactions when his general cuts off their introductions with "Oh, no need, Alpha-17's told me all about you." It's always immediate FEAR.JPG followed by a slow spiral of What The Fuck.
What do you mean by that General. What does that mean Cody. What do you mean they text. No. Cody. What the fuck is happening, Cody. Alpha-17 doesn't have friends he has enemies and enemies he tolerates enough not to shoot on sight.
OWK: Wolffe reached for his vambrace? when I mentioned you A-17: That's where he keeps his spare knife. OWK: Hm that does explain the way he eyed me up, ambitious. A-17: Clearly not enough, he should have followed through. I taught them better.

If the right way is too hard, fuck it. Do it the wrong way.
Folding clothes keeps you from getting the laundry done? Stop folding clothes. Put a basket in your room and throw your unfolded clean stuff into it right out of the dryer, it's fine.
Rinsing dishes off keeps you from loading the dishwasher? Load them dirty and run it twice.
Chopping onions keeps you from making yourself dinner? Buy the freezer bags of chopped onions.
You forget to take your meds and don't want to get out of bed to get them? Start putting them next to the bed.
Can't keep up with the dishes? Get paper plates. Worried about environment impact? Order biodegradable ones online if your local store doesn't have one.
Make the task easier. Put things where you use them instead of where they "go." Eliminate the steps that keep you from finishing the task. Eliminate the task that is stressing you out.
Do it the "wrong" way. It's literally fine.

I love the thing where a character will, in direct address, say their partner's name then a slew of petnames in that sort of fond exasperation, but I feel like if Bones ever did that it would go something like "Jim, darlin', sunshine, honey, beautiful, light of my life and the reason I'm going grey in my thirties." And then he just tell him to stop eating known allergens.

Obi-Wan: Uh 15 minutes ago, why??
Anakin: Really? That recent?
Obi-Wan: Yeah *voice crack* is that a issue? *starts crying again*

thinking about how in 'galileo seven' spock is absolutely adamant to ensure that they don't kill the spear guys despite them posing an active lethal threat to both him and his crew, not to mention they already killed one person. and then how in 'devil in the dark' spock spends half the episode demanding and risking mutiny to ensure they don't kill the horta despite it killing 50+ people. and then how kirk reveals he's standing face-to-face with it and spock without HESITATION
