Dan has said before he was in between slytherin and gryffindor so i’m actually not at all surprised by it. I still think that if he was being sorted for real the hat would give him the power to chose because he really have a lot of potencial for both houses. Do you think 11 years old Dan would have chosen Slytherin of Gryffindor? I’m not sure
