‘Blind Date’ with Sean and Madonna
Just as the ink was drying on the $1 million plus deal that will team newlyweds Sean Penn and Madonna in the comedy Blind Date, it was learned that Tri-Star is about to sign Richard Benjamin as director. (Benjamin just completed The Money Pit for Universal-Spielberg)

Madonna, Other Stars Film March-for-Peace Commercial
By Kathleen Hendrix
Rock singer Madonna and film stars including Martin Sheen, Leonard Nimoy, Rosanna Arquette and Mary Steenburgen joined hundreds of lesser-known marchers Saturday in making a public service television commercial for peace at the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area.
The marchers had responded to an appeal from PRO-Peace, the organization planning “The Great Peace March” of 5,000 people from Los Angeles to Washington next year to demand global nuclear disarmament. The 30-second commercial will be aired later this month to recruit marchers and solicit contributions for a projected budget of $20 million, of which $3 million has been raised to date.
Woodley Park rangers said the crowd neared 1,800 at its peak, although others doubted it ever reached 1,000.
“We have all we need,” said Pacy Markman, an advertising executive directing the commercial. Markman, director Nicholas Meyer, producer Steven-Charles Jaffe and photography director Victor Kemper volunteered their professional services.
PRO-Peace organizer David Mixner said he was excited that several young film stars, including Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy and Rob Lowe, had joined the peace marchers. “They’re saying for the first time, ‘OK, We’re going to do something here.’”
The patient, good-humored crowd, which included a fair number of babies in strollers, as well as dogs, spent about four hours in the hot sun not marching - they lined up on the park road for the shots simulating next year’s march, and picnicked under the trees between camera shots.
Madonna did not arrive until noon, at about the same time the crowd was released for the day.
Most left, but the hundred or so who lingered, obediently keeping their distance while she posed for pictures, wound up participating with Madonna in one last take of the march. With Washington High School student and would-be actor Dwayne Edmonds in the lead, Madonna followed with actress Rosanna Arquette and Nicholas Meyer. She was hugging 9-year-old Molly Rose-Kuperman, an ecstatic Madonna dress-alike, to her side.
Before she left, Madonna filmed a statement asking for support of the march, concluding: “The time has come for all of us to take the future into our own hands. If we don’t, who will?”

Madonna and Sean Penn, reclusive even when not honeymooning, paid a visit to the set of “8 Million Ways To Die,” in which Rosanna Arquette, Madonna’s chum from “Desperately Seeking Susan,” is starring with Jeff Bridges. It was a neighborly call: “Ways To Die” is filming at a Malibu mansion not far from where the Penns’ recent wedding took place.

Here’s some possibly disappointing news for Madonna watchers. Apparently “A Certain Sacrifice,” the movie Madonna starred in five years ago, isn’t the porn flick some have assumed it is.
At least that’s what director Stephen Jon Lewicki said of the movie, which makes its videocassette debut on Virgin Video at $59.95 next week, a week later than scheduled.
“There’s some nudity in it and Madonna is nude briefly,” he said. “It’s not even semi-porn. If anything it’s anti-porn. I think this porn rumor got started because people who haven’t seen it heard she has three sex slaves (in the movie). That excited their imaginations and they’ve been assuming all sorts of things about it.”
Long before she became a pop idol, Madonna, a struggling actress/singer/dancer, starred in this movie and worked as a nude model. All that is coming back to haunt her. Playboy and Penthouse magazines printed some nude photos recently. Then this movie surfaced. A legal effort to keep her name from being used in conjuction with the film ultimately failed.
The film was shot mostly in 1980 but Lewicki worked on it off and on until last year. Its original cost was $20,000 but Lewicki says he has done $60,000 worth of polishing.
Lewicki is currently negotiating a soundtrack deal. But don’t get your hopes up. Madonna does some dancing in this movie but no singing. Without a Madonna vocal performance, Lewicki may have a tough time getting a record deal. “A Certain Sacrifice” has not been released theatrically in this country but Lewicki hopes to change that. It was, however, released in Italian theatres.
