The Tortured Poets Department. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions and sentiments from a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time - one that was both sensational and sorrowful in equal measure. This period of the author’s life is now over, the chapter closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer is of the firm belief that our tears become holy in the form of ink on a page. Once we have spoken our saddest story, we can be free of it.
And then all that’s left behind is the tortured poetry.

I have stayed silent long enough. Yes, this album is A LOT to digest, there��s literally so many metaphors packed into each line of this album. BUT ITS NOT FOR YOU!!! It was to help Taylor heal and grow and IT SHOWS!!! you can literally hear it happening throughout the album and it shows in her relationship with Travis! This isn’t about London or Ratty or Styles or Mayer or anyone else you think it’s about. It’s about Taylor and how she was feeling or felt in the two year time period she has been writing this album. It’s beautiful and heart breaking and that’s what being in love and falling out of love, isn’t it?

"we learned the right steps to different dances" is such a beautiful way to explain that nobody did anything wrong but it does not work out if you have different goals or different ideals of life, maybe sometimes things don't work out and it is nobodys fault

there it is!!!! it was clearly going to be a heartbreak heavy album but that's all we knew about it, the rest was purely made up by fans (also hot take I never thought the title was a reference to the tortured man club groupchat, it just didn't make sense she'd name a whole album after the jokey name of an old groupchat of joe's. but of course again people ran with it and built their whole perception of the album around it!)
