This has probably been said before, but the age difference between Toothless in the movies and Toothless in the books is wild. Movie Toothless is around Hiccup's maturity level, and they grow into adulthood together, which is lovely. Book Toothless has the maturity of a three-year-old human at the start of the series, and at the end maybe has the maturity level of a four-year-old human. In other words, Movie Hiccup went into the woods when he was 15 and found a best friend, Book Hiccup went into a cave when he was 10 and stole/adopted a child.
