Tennis-Gauff Launches the Fastest Serve Twice At Wimbledon
LONDON, June 30 (Reuters) The American Coco Gauff stunned the crowd when she hit a 122 mile an hour (mph) rocket and a 124 mph effort across the net in the Wimbledon second round on Thursday. It was the fastest serves so far in the women's tennis tournament.
The Romanian was facing Mihaela Buzarnescu on Centre Court the 18-year-old sensation forced her opponent to make a forehand error to close the fifth game of the first set using the power serve.
Then she landed the 124 mph stunner in the second set before winning the match in 6-2, 6-3 to set the stage for an opponent for the third round, fellow compatriot Amanda Anisimova.
The 18-year-old Roland Garros finalist was one of the most fearsome athletes in the sport. MINECRAFT She hit 120 mph in the previous round against Elena-Gabriela Rouse, a Romanian.
Petra Kvitova and Elena Rybakina were the second fastest servers of the competition at 119 mph.
Gauff, who was ranked 12th in the world, exploded onto the Wimbledon stage in 2019, reaching the fourth round on the grass-court major at the age of 15 years old.
