I know it's been said a million times in a million ways but sometimes I just.... Zuko.

Just imagine it. You're sixteen. And you're just a kid. And you've been running for a long time. And now, somehow, you're looking into the eyes of a kid you used to want to conquer and you're teaching him how to kill your father. Because you have to. Because maybe the kid is just thirteen, but he hasn't been a kid in a long, long time. Like you've never been a kid. Like you can't be a kid when you're running.

But he's just a kid. And the kid is only thirteen, and he says he doesn't have to kill your father, but he has to kill your father. So you teach him. Knowing that you were thirteen once. Knowing that you were thirteen and you knelt beneath your father, and you couldn't move against him either. Knowing that you couldn't comprehend it, even after the flesh stopped dripping from your face. Knowing that you were a coward then, and that you are a coward now, and that you couldn't kill your father. So you have to teach the kid to kill your father.

So you teach the kid to hate your father--knowing what the rage has done to you, and what he hasn't done to him yet. Knowing that you could never hate your father the way that the kid should. Knowing that the kid won't be like you, because he can't be like you. Because you can't let anyone else kneel there and take it like you knelt there and took it. Because you have to. You can't let him be like you, so you teach him to be like you, and you teach him how to kill your father. Like you couldn't.

And then he doesn't. And then he won't. And then your father is kneeling beneath the kid, cowering under his hands, and the kid doesn't even burn him. Because the kid is not your father. And the kid is not cruel. Because the kid is too much like you. Because the kid is thirteen, and you were right when you were thirteen, too. And your father was wrong. And you never needed to kill your father.

Because you're sixteen. And you're just a kid.

If they ever make the live action version the Guru episode it’ll go like this.

loveee the thought of zuko as fire lord making his first diplomatic visit to the SWT and sokka taking FULL advantage of his and zuko’s friendship status to mortify his fellow council members and the general population of the south pole, as well as the fire lord himself.

like zuko will be chatting with some council members and sokka comes up and just starts roasting the fuck out of him. just saying shit like “who let you off the boat in THOSE shoes” to get a reaction out of the council members, who are making giant eyes at him like this is a professional visit where the fuck is your father to restrain you?!!!?

bato would be having an awkward conversation with zuko about resource allotments for the rebuilding effort and sokka needlessly throws in “did you know zuko sings to himself when he’s alone? he’s pretty good. give him a demo, zuko, come on,” and zuko’s grimacing because it was one fucking time sweet spirits sokka and bato is giving sokka the most embarrassed look of his life

sokka throws snowballs at zuko in the middle of the village and zuko falls over four consecutive times as a result.

for all his outward expressions of aggravation, it eventually becomes apparent to everyone that zuko isn’t too bothered by the teasing and sokka doesn’t mean anything by it, because every night they sit at the water’s edge and joke for hours.

genuinely one of the worst things that’s happened to television in the last few years (exacerbated by streaming services) is death of Filler. going from 20 episodes to 8 because “we didn’t really need that episode where the main characters went to the beach right? it had no long lasting effect” but we DID!!! we needed to see how they act without the Big Bad Plot and to establish the dynamics between the characters and lay in the sun (do they forget sunscreen? how do they react to a thieving seagull? do they get buried in the sand or do they do the burying?). the plot isn’t everything. the action doesn’t hit as hard without the quiet moments. give us character development and our little scenes back

I need names of whoever is at fault for Sokka not putting on kyoshi warrior makeup and the dress in the live action and I need them now.
