✨ Locking mirrors ✨
Tumblr media
I recently got a mirror and wanted to put it in on my altar. Before doing that I wanted to ensure it was locked and spiritually ready to do, especially with it being in such an important location for me.
By many in the occult and spiritual communities mirrors are seen as portals, with connections to the other side and each other. Some practitioners now go out of their way to ensure that portal can’t be accessed by others.
Locking a mirror is simply putting a protection enchantment on it, with a millions what’s to do it. When doing this I like to ensure the mirror is thoroughly cleansed, usually using smoke in addition to a cleansing water. Often people then draw a symbol on the mirror. This can be anything from the pentacle to sigils, runes, alchemy symbols or the elements symbols. I draw mine on with my favorite protection oil. Once I’m finished I like to physically clean the mirror again, while focusing on the energy I’ve put down spreading over and coating the mirror fully. This process can be down a few times a year, whenever your intuition pops up and tells you it needs to be done.

Witchy tip ~ The “me” candle
If you get tired easily when doing your workings, consecrate a candle to yourself and light it every time you are doing something witchy/pagany. The goal here is to use the candle as a power bank, raising its energy so your own doesn’t run low.
Differently than working candles, commonly used to improve your magick’s potency, the “me” candle is programmed to improve *your* energy while you are working on your magick. It can become a precious piece for practitioners that, as me, have more often than not low spoons days.
Extra tip: dress your candle with essential oils that boost your energy. Bergamot and lemongrass are my favorite ones for this use!

Money Bowl Tips ✨💸
I absolutely adore doing money bowls. They serve as an amazing way to build up abundant energy and help with layering your workings. They’re a fairly straightforward working that you tend to by continually feeding it energy or “working” the spell. Let’s jump into some tips.
1.) Have a schedule with it. I recommend feeding your bowl energy fairly often, ideally weekly on Thursdays, but at least once a month. Thursdays are connected to Jupiter which is the planet connected to wealth and abundance. 🪐
2.) Add a candle. A fairly low energy way to keep up with tending to your bowl is to spell a candle for it. After it’s prepped and ready, place it in the bowl. Lighting the candle will feed the bowl energy. 🕯️
3.) The base is just as important as the rest of the bowl. Commonly you use salt or rice for the base. I recommend going a little extra with it. Recently I’ve been into making spell crafted cinnamon salt and using that as my bowl base. Put energy and intention behind making your bowl’s base. It’s literally the foundation of this spell!
3.) *some* herbs you can use in money workings: Alfalfa, dill, basil, chamomile, bay leaves, catnip, oranges, cloves, lemongrass, jasmine, cinnamon, allspice, ginger, mints, star anise, cats claw, and oregano. There are a bunch of options. These ones just have direct correspondence to money drawing.
4.) Set goals for your bowl. Whenever you feed your bowl, focus on this goal you’re driving towards. With money magic you ideally want to be as specific as you can be. These can be long term or short term goals. I usually focus on long term and building stability and sustainable energy flowing to that goal.
I hope these tips bring some ideas for making your own money bowls. 🖤🌱

Charging Methods
This is no where near all the ways you can charge things so feel free to add to the list or send me other methods. I intend to go back and add to it occasionally.
Edited 12/10/16
Fire
Draw it on paper (or something safe to burn) and burn it
Draw it on a firework and set it off
Carve it into a candle, light it, and let the sigil melt away
Place it close to a flame to absorb the light and heat
Air
Draw it on wind chimes and hang them up
Hang it up somewhere it can blow around in the breeze by a fan
Draw it on a balloon, blow the balloon up, and pop it
Draw it on a kite and fly it
Water
Draw it on something soluble and dissolve it in water
Draw it on a rock (or something non-soluble) and place it in running water
Draw it with something food safe on a tea bag and drink it (It’s more using a sigil to charge the tea, but whatever)
Draw it on yourself then take a shower and let it wash away
Draw it in chalk on the sidewalk to wash away in the rain
Earth
Draw it on something biodegradable and bury it
Transfer energy from previously charged crystals
Draw it in the dirt somewhere it will be worn away
Light
Place it in the sun or moonlight
Draw it with/in something that will disappear: lemon juice on paper, fog in a mirror, etc.
Paint it with glow in the dark paint, the light used to charge the paint and its own glow charges the sigil
Technology
Place it on/under a device that is plugged in and charging
Open the image on your computer and play a video game on top of it
Use the sigil as your background or screensaver or just leave it up for a while to be charged by the screen’s light and energy of the computer
Open the sigil in a paint or photo editing program, cut it to pieces, and delete them (like you would tear up a piece of paper)
Place the sigil on/near speakers and play music (match the music to the intent of the sigil)
Post the sigil on social media with the intent that it charge with every like/reblog/thumbs up/etc.
Personal Energy (Mental and Physical)
Direct your own personal energies into the sigil (How to)
Draw it on yourself or something you have on you as you exercise: dance, run, play sport, etc.
Have the sigil on/near you and focus on it as you have sex/masturbate and orgasm
Have the sigil on/near you and focus on it while experiencing pain
Have the sigil on/near you and focus on it while experiencing extreme emotion
Add a drop of blood to the sigil
Other
Sing or play an instrument to it
Place it in a music box, wind it up and let the music charge it
Draw it on paper and tear the paper up
Draw the sigil with food or carve it into food and eat it (bonus if it’s baked/cooked/etc.)
Draw it on the bottom of your shoes and walk around
Draw it on yourself with lotion or makeup and blend it in

The Promise of Spring - Imbolc for Secular Witches
Tumblr media
I am the spark before the fire From winter’s cold, I do inspire I am the promise of the Spring I am the tiniest of flames
-Kelliana, “Brighid’s Flame”
As we begin to come to the end of (an unseasonably warm) January, a tiny candle flame appears on the horizon. The beginning of February is marked by a number of “signs of spring” holidays, among them Candlemas, the Feast of St. Brighid, Groundhog Day, and of course, Imbolc.
Now, depending on where you live, Imbolc (or Imbolg) and the Feast of St. Brighid may be celebrated sort of interchangeably. In Ireland, the day is called Lá Fhéile Bríde and it is as much a celebration of an old Gaelic festival halfway between the solstices as it is a celebration for the nation’s other favorite saint.
The religious and spiritual significance of the holiday is very entwined with the traditional activities we often see depicted online. The reed crosses, the dollies, the ceremonies, the offerings of oatmeal and milk - all of this is wonderful, but it can leave secular witches feeling left out in the cold.
So what’s a witch to do?
The main importance of the holiday, apart from venerating the blessed Brighid or the unconquered Sun, is hope. The glimmer of new beginnings, the warm hearth in the midst of winter, and the promise of renewal with the coming spring. It is a time to evaluate where you are, to determine what can or should be cleansed from your life, and to begin planning your way forward.
If you’re inclined to divination, cast your fortune for the coming season. Contemplate your path to personal growth. What obstacles are in your path? What is holding you back from flowering and how can you either conquer it or work around it? Where would you like to see yourself this year? What changes do you need to make?
Take a day to focus on self-care. Winter darkness can be hard on those of us with depression or Seasonal Affective Disorder (amongst other things). A day spent doing things that make you feel happy, healthy, and fulfilled can buoy your spirits and help get you through that winter slump. Have a home spa day. Watch your favorite movies and eat your favorite foods. Curl up with a good book. Or, if you’re socially inclined, have an outing with friends or loved ones. Visit a favorite shop or cafe. Go see a movie. Plan a date with your sweetie or your bestie. Reconnect with yourself and with the wider world in a way that brings you comfort and joy.
Start on your spring cleaning projects. It’s a bit soon to begin airing out the house, despite the January warm spell (thanks a lot, climate change), but you can still begin clearing the clutter. Organize a closet or plow through one of those projects you’ve been putting off. Scrub down your kitchen and/or bathroom - they ALWAYS need it - or clean out the fridge. Do a few loads of laundry, or just pick up whatever clutter is keeping your space from feeling relaxed and harmonious. If you’ve been saying you’ll get around to it, consider this your Round Tuit.
If you’ve got a green thumb, start planning your spring planting. The gardening catalogs are starting to show up in mailboxes, and they can be treasure troves of inspiration. Places like Seed Savers and Burpee will even send you a free catalog if you just want to have a look. Look back on last year’s garden. What worked? What didn’t? What do you want to try growing again, and what new and exciting plants would you like to try?
Start a new project. If you’re crafty with yarn and textiles, make a stashbuster project with the odds and ends you’ve got sitting around. If you’re a maker of shiny things, pick up that special piece you’ve been waiting to work with and make something gorgeous. Brainstorm ideas for new artwork or sculpture or costuming. Fill a few pages in your sketchbook. Fiddle around with some writing prompts and see what happens, or pull out that old piece you’ve been meaning to finish. Find a creative outlet and let the ideas flow.
And if you can, watch the sun rise. There is nothing quite like the light of dawn on Imbolc day. There’s something peaceful about it. The sun seems to wink at you through the early morning clouds, as if to say, “Soon.”
Happy Imbolc, everyone!

I am several hours too late for the discord conversation on the subject, so you get this here:
A lot of us have had the experience of trying out a spell/ritual written by somebody else, and finding that it feels a bit silly when we do it. Like you're just playing pretend. This is normal, BTW. But it can make you feel like you must just suck at magic.
A lot of these rituals, especially relatively modern ones, involve a certain amount of "psychodrama," like elaborate costumes and props, or old-timey language that probably seemed cool when they wrote it, but feels ridiculous when you say it -- that kind of thing. These elements are generally there to help you switch into the headspace of Doing Magic, but if the psychodrama is not a good match for you, it ends up having the opposite effect. It makes you feel like you're just LARPing. Again, this is normal.
Basically, you need to figure out what works for YOU to switch into the headspace of Doing Magic, OR, perhaps you would find something relatively simple, like folk magic, a better fit.
Personally I've found that trying different methods of achieving trance states helped me to find Doing Magic mode, and now it takes less effort and set dressing to get there. But I also love the folk magic approach. No ritual -- doing the thing just works (usually), because it always (usually) has.
I also love making things, which can become its own ritual, free of costumes and "so mote it be" (unless that's what you're into, in which case go ham). Basically there is no one correct approach that's going to work for everyone. Try incorporating your existing interests if you can -- you'll probably have a better time!

Witchcraft 101:
Cleansing vs Uncrossing vs Banishing
Tumblr media
Alright witches. Lets dive into some witchy basics and discuss the differences between cleansing, uncrossing and banishing. This will hopefully help you differentiate between them. But.. lets be honestly if you do something like call a spell an uncrossing when "technically" doing a banishing, who cares its all in good spirit. The reason i think its good to have a difference in mind between these falls into how you handle a spell. If I'm doing an uncrossing vs a banishing i would choose different spell ingredients, maybe work with different gods, or choose a different element to work with.
Cleansing: I consider cleansings as the foundation and most basic of these. Its almost an umbrella term the other two fall under. All banishings are cleansings, but not all cleansings are a banishing. Cleansings are when you're trying clear something away. Most often people will use this term in day to day workings and general upkeep to make sure nothing has stuck to them. This would include more casual things like smoke cleansing, showering and asking the water to cleanse you, sound cleansing, etc. Its not a full spellworking or ritual, but still done with energy and intention. Sometimes you may do a cleansing and realize whatever is there, is stuck deeper then you expected. So you take the next steps and do a more "intense" cleansing like an uncrossing or banishing.
Uncrossing Spells: Uncrossing specifically refers to removing unwanted energy. Usually when discussing what is an uncrossing, I sperate it from just a cleansing by describing it as a very intense cleansing where you're trying to strip away intense and specific energy. These are more work and a step up from an everyday cleansing for more intense scenarios. This is very spirit focused; think of it as taking out the bad and putting in the good. Some types of spells I would consider an uncrossing are: removing hexes/jinx/curses, removing the evil eye, spiritual detoxes, road openers, removing any stubborn energy, removing feelings, etc. I associate uncrossings with water: it's soaking in and getting that energy out. I would choose herbs/spell ingredients that are uplifting and purifying. Think salt, rosemary, rue, and lemons.
Banishing Spells: Banishing spells remove unwanted entities, spirits or people. You can use it to get rid of very deep rooted things like habits or insecurities. Banishings are quite a strong forms of spellwork. You're really kicking something out and away from you when you do a banishing. Its connected to more deep rooted things that you're trying to remove from your life. Some types of spells I could consider a banishing: cord cutting, exorcisms, banishing a spirit attached to you, getting rid of insecurities, freezers, etc. I associate banishings with fire. Burn and gtfo. I would choose herbs that have more of a kick to them and are defensive. Think nettle, blackberry leaves, cloves, even pepper in some cases.
Please note this doesn't have to be something strict. Like i said at the beginning this is just a guide that will help you differentiate so you can tackle the spellwork as effectively as possible.
✨Stay Spooky ✨

For my fellow fibre arts witches, if you're starting to get the Annual Cold Weather Fidget, that driving urge to reach for hooks and needles and that big bin of spools and fabric lurking in your closet....
If you feel like Doing A Witchcraft, you can work some witchy into whatever you're making. Weaving, crocheting, knitting, nalbinding, stitching, embroidery, and knotwork can all carry magic and serve as a vehicle for creating spells, sigils, talismans, or enchanted wearables.
Am I saying you can put a spell into that pair of socks you're knitting? That scarf you've been working on? That pile of granny squares waiting to become a blanket? That cross-stitch piece you've been meaning to finish?
ABSOLUTELY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are even books on knot magic, witchy crochet and knitting patterns, and beautifully spooky cross-stitch and embroidery pieces. (And lots more downloadable patterns exist on etsy and fibre arts forums!) Perfect for chilling with your favorite hot beverage and current binge-watch while you keep your hands from getting bored.
Go forth and have fun with it!

Low Energy Witchcraft
Witchy things for you to do when your energy is low but your need to witch is high.*
Hi-res download available on my ko-fi for monthly and one-time members!
Tumblr media
Energy Observation
Not everyone can sit in a serene and silent room and meditate efficiently, so pop on your noise-canceling headphones and maybe do a quick guided meditation to help get in tune with the flow of energy in your body. Simply observe, don’t try to force energy to flow
Tea spells
Herbal teas are great for spells because they already have “spell components”—herbs—and they’re designed to be easy to make. Choose a tea that incorporates herbs that fit the intentions of your spell. If you have the energy for it, come up with a prayer, chant, or rhyme for your spell while you wait for the tea to brew!
Touch Grass
No really—go outside and just appreciate the nature around you try to see if you can let go of yourselves and just be a part of the world around you.
Spiritual Soup
If you can’t go outside then try to get in tune with your indoor space and allow yourself to become part of the spiritual soup that is your living space.
Digital Offerings
If you can’t physically create an offering for the deities, spirits, etc in your life, make a digital offering. You could create a mood board, collage, cobble together a Pinterest board, and more. The possibilities are endless!
*Keep in mind that this is my personal experience and your mileage may vary. While these seem pretty low energy for me and others, this may not be the case for you. Take what clicks with you and leave what doesn't.

Things to Remember When Cursing
Tumblr media
1. When casting curses it not only involves energy work but knowledge on how to use it to your advatnage against your target. Manipulating your targets energy so it turns back on them and only them.
2. Curses also take a certain level of psycology as well. This is where its really beneficial to people watch. Especially your specific target that your wanting to curse. The more weaknesses you can find, the better the resources you can use to exploit them in your curse. After all the point is to hit them where it hurts
3. When doing curses/hexes/jinxes its important to remember that they sometimes need to be maintained depending on the level of severity, intention, timing and outcome.
4. You can design a curse , especially if your in close contact, to affect your target and only your target. Essentially if the curse you cast is on someone that lives with you, you can design a counter deterent. So that way when your target comes around you the affect of the curse is null and wont affect you in any way. These are called "Nulls and Activators" (ill go over this in another post).
5. You can curse objects if you want to be inconspicuous. This works in favor of closeted witches. Cursing an object of a target of everyday mundane things such as a phone or a ring of someone can be highly affective because its in close contact. Which allows the curse to take affect immediately.
6. If an object is cursed and you for whatever reason need to touch it. Enchant a black cloth to act as a sheilded warding cloth to wrap around the cursed object. You could alternatively do this with black gloves. Or you can enchant rings to wear on both hands to act as warded amulets.
7. If you use objects in your curse casting leave them outside in sunlight for 7 days. Or you can but them in a ziplock bag and bury it in salt for 7 days as well. Make sure to label them to be your specific cursing tools as if you use them for other spell work it can affect the outcome.
