FINISHED EXHIBITION: 

I’m pleased with the appearance and concept behind my final exhibition, the garment is very busy and eye-catching on its own, therefore I didn’t want the backdrop of the exhibition to be busy and overpowering. For this reason I also chose to include only my very casual photos that feature the jacket being worn in numerous creative ways. This was also an effective way of showing the sporty and active side to the jacket by wearing bold trainers in the photoshoot, this also compliments my use of branded shoe boxes to showcase my toile’s. 

Initially I planned to use the shoe boxes by cutting them up and using them directly on the garment, however due to my jacket being shown on a publicly published website, I would of needed to gain permission from the numerous brands to attach them onto my jacket. If I didn’t I could be held liable for using their name, for example it could be interpreted as a product of theirs or a product thats using their name to gain publicity without their permission.

The use of an iPod in the pocket of the jacket is a much more suitable and stylish way to showcase the video I created, this adds another interactive element to the jacket and looks very effective when playing in the pocket. It was a struggle getting the iPod to play on a loop but using the apple slideshow settings i’ve managed to achieve that.

From testing out paper shapes and laying them across my backdrop strip I’ve definitely decided to use four photos per row, three doesn't seem enough to give off the look of a time-lapse and the effect of the shutter taking numerous photos of the jacket in different positions.

EXHIBITION PROGRESS: 

Before I started, I decided to paint over the wall giving it a fresh coat of white paint as there were marks that had been left from the previous students exhibition.

LOCATION 1: PHOTO RESULTS 

The soundproof room was possibly one of the most challenging spaces to get good photos in, this is because there was so much artificial light that it appeared yellow on the photos which made the quality of the photos worse. The yellow tinge to the photos also didn't fit with the rest of my theme, and didn't compliment the bright white of the make up and metallic surfaces in other photos therefore I chose not to use these.

THE VIDEO: 

The video is made up of a timeline of photos and layers that will be flicked through quickly, I wanted to add the glitch effect to these photos also as it emphasises the technological and smart clothing ‘look’ i’m aiming for. I also decided to add a soundtrack including glitch noises to give the video the effect that the video is being viewed as a live stream and the signal continuously breaks up.

INDOOR PHOTOS: 

I wanted these photos to be completely casual and with bold trainers to keep the sport element alive. I edited the photos to give them a glitch effect on photoshoot, we have glitches are a result of technology and they look effective when used in styling and photos thereforeI feel I couldn't have found a more fitting theme for my photos. Although the jacket would be classed as a key statement piece reflecting avant-guard streetwear, it was important to me the jacket was played and interacted with during the photoshoot as the whole concept of the jacket is that you are able to interact with it by scanning the codes and playing the video. Therefore I chose to wear the jacket in numerous cool, casual and artistic ways that emphasised the oversized and contemporary shapes.

MAKE UP LOOK FOR OUTDOOR PHOTOS

I wanted to create a robotic look for the make-up of the shoot, however not playing on the cliche of futuristic and robotic too much as it can easily look similar to many looks that already been done. (These photos were taken before I took the make-up off and re-applied due to the cracking of white paint around the jaw,) however I liked the cracking over the lips. The aspect that made the make-up look was my addition of the reflective parts peeled from the backs of CD’s. Ever since I experimented with the CD’s I knew i’d use the reflective bits for styling. The metallic and reflective parts of the CD’s also fit with my jacket, due to it including reflective tape and metallic surfaces. I chose to add a light dark pink shade to the eyes as theres accents of pink in the garment but not a huge amount so I felt pink would compliment it nicely.

PHOTOSHOOT LOCATION 2: 

This location was my favourite by far, it brings a very futuristic yet minimalistic feel to the backdrop of photos. The visible connecting parts like nuts and bolts within this space really compliment the style of the garment, this is because i’ve chosen to purposely use oversized hand stitching, raw edges and raw cuts from magazines to emphasise the artfully unfolded element. - ‘unfolded’ is a reference to the rawness of the style. However the ‘artfully’ aspect refers to how the unfolded is done, e.g. with purpose and deliberate style that makes an impression. Metallic colours and silvers are often associated with smart garments therefore this area is very suited to the jacket, the jackets colours will only bring out these metallic colours even more,

PHOTOSHOOT LOCATION 1:

The soundproof room is full of geometric shapes that will compliment my garment’s style. Adding to this, although the surface has a subtle glittered effect it is largely a block dark grey colour. It’s important for the colour to be block as the garment itself is extremely busy and full of colours, so adding a colourful backdrop would be too overpowering. My only concern in this room is the lack of natural light, however this makes it an ideal location for black shots that showcase the reflective tape.

The style of my jacket resembles a new style that incorporates numerous different styles. I’d describe the jacket as avant guard street wear. ‘Streetwear on steroids’ is the term i’ve been using to describe it. This jacket would be the statement piece that introduces a new collection onto the catwalk and represents my own individual style. The jacket quite literally wears it’s heart on its sleeve, this is because the images I chose from Garage magazine represent a pop culture, reflecting the early styles of New York suburbs, ‘anything goes’ and ‘its not what you wear its how you wear it’ style and attitude. This is the artfully unfolded aspect of the jacket which represents illustrated people and their style. Its important to me that jacket carries contemporary shapes however doesn't cohere to the stereotypical clean lines and, ‘minimal distraction’ style most smart garments come with. I believe that smart clothes are the future and their developments are so exiting, so should be celebrated through eye catching garments and kept away from the ‘coolness’ of minimalistic garments.
