a week or so ago i ran a bunch of polls on what kind of shadowgast picture i should draw for v-day, and y'all have helped me build something really fun! especially with the three winners of the color poll (purple, teal, and orange!). i don't know how much of a 'regular shadowgast' this picture has turned out to be (regular shadowgast are probably studying ancient tomes in a dusty library as we speak), but let's say that i am giving you the plot bunny gift of figuring out the setting of this scene 😏

Just. Little Bren, only seventeen, with such a huge heart that's already getting buried. Brent, who in all the awfulness that's happening to him really, deeply loves Astrid and Eadwulf. Turning to Astrid in this brief window of normality, just getting to be a young man at a festival with his loved ones, calling her my dear, as if they were normal lovers.

(And she rolls her eyes, perhaps because she can't quite let herself pretend that they're normal, perhaps because she can't put that much of her heart in the open, perhaps because she doesn't quite realise - and won't, until it's too late - how much heart Bren has in him -)

My theory is that the Rat Grinders have been planning to ruin everyone's chances of graduating. The rat grinding is just a way to buy time, or it's like an actual summoning thing (maybe its to the thistlesprigs house or the forest)... they are planning for everyone to get sent to pass-fail and have to do the last stand... and I have a feeling it's gonna take place in the forest they have been spending the last 3 yrs in. Not sure if they're trying to poison the thistlesprigs tree because they're the only ones to have the stuff that the bad kids know of that has supplies and could help make the cloud rider thing... maybe the last stand is determined by the principle, (ie killing the current student body principle now that the robo vp is gone) and copper kettle wants it to be flying related so the cloud riding thing would be helpful?

so like, kipperlily totally embezzled the frosty fair and pinned it on the loams, right? and that's how she is so rich even though her parents aren't?
