Funny it indeed was. The two leopards continue to watch as they enjoy their meal, content with its taste and substance that none of it was becoming scraps for their uninvited guest.
While technically his was in the territory of their leader, Makucha, neither of them were in a hurry to chase the little hyena away in his absence. Not when they were preoccupied with a fresh kill. Besides, the thing looked gangly and more bone than meat. Not worth it.
Its Fahari's question that has him thinking on the presence of this hyena further. When did they start living here? And would they eat into their prey?
"...Perhaps after all that smoke?" Jiona theorises. Their so-called neighbouring 'Pridelands' had fallen into ruin for as long as he could remember, but whatever had happened there recently... it must've been the biggest wildfire ever because the smoke could be seen from the Backlands with ease (granted, Makucha's range just so happened to border theirs rather directly).
"Fleeing the fire, were I to hazard a guess." not that it gave them the right to suddenly move in on their turf.
Fahari merely stares down - amusing indeed. As if a hyena can climb trees. It's not the first one to stare up but really, can't a leopard eat in peace? That's the what, third one so far?
"Let's wait a bit - let him keep trying. He won't succeed but it's funny at least."
Dinner and show. Let the little nuisance struggle some more before scaring him away. He takes another bite - not breaking eye contact, more or less to let the young predator know that he won't be getting any of it.
"Since when did hyenas start to live here anyway?"

Janja, how do you feel about Scar? Is he like anything you imagined? (from anonymous)
"Oh yeah, Scar's great! You're talkin' about a king who ruled the Pridelands and made it great for us hyenas! With all his schemes and smarts we'll finally be on top, back in the Pridelands, kicking out that Lion Guard." oh sure the vultures, crocs & jackals are here too, but really it was the hyenas who were the ones benefitting the most. They're Scar's favourites. Obviously.
And yet, Janja hesitates for reasons he's unsure of.
"He's, uh... not what I expected." were the only words he could muster. It wasn't like his tiny cub mind at the time could really recall what kind of lion Scar was beyond... well, lithe in figure and dark in mane.

Tano, did you had to deal with the fire too when you were a cub? How did you end up in Janja’s clan? (from anonymous)
Ah, the fire. Now there's something he hasn't really cared to recall for about... well, years. Probably because he didn't like to think about it. Wasn't exactly a fun time for him. Or any hyena, for that matter.
Tano puts a paw to his chin and considers his words carefully. He speaks slowly and without his usual sass, "...Yeah, I was there. Nne, too, because our moms were friends, see, we all ran away together." their moms were smart and quickly recognised how south things were going, "They took us and escaped the fire. I could see a lot since she carried me in her mouth. Fire. Hyenas. Lions. Her and Nne's mom, they... we got cornered. By lions. Next think I knew I was on the ground alongside Nne and—" he stops suddenly and all that's heard is a deep gulp.
Claws, teeth, blood, roars, grunts, cries of pain of hyena and lion alike.
It was a horrid mess his eyes were forced to witness. Last thing he remembers were shouts of 'run away' and 'save yourselves'. And well, his mom was a pretty stern lady, so of course he listened to her. Nne, too.
Nevermind. He doesn't want to tell this story anymore.
"...Janja!" Tano exclaims rather loudly, "Nne and I found him, Cheezi & Chungu in the Outlands when we were cubs. What idiots. Don't know how someone like him became leader, but we were having none of it. Well..." and he was loathe to admit this, "the three of them had us beat. Physically. Oh trust me we tried overthrowing him, but it was three stronger hyenas against us two. Didn't stand a chance."
He stifles a laugh, "We don't get along, obviously. But we stuck around because..." it was terrifying to be alone and it was just the two of them and they had lost everything they'd known and they didn't want to be scared anymore and—
"Strength in numbers."

Interesting to me that Fahari & Jiona were created considering that these three leopards show up under Makucha's command in an earlier episode, albeit only ever once
Shame they weren't used again, I like their designs!

Thinking about it for a moment... I do quite like the idea of Makucha, Fahari & Jiona being teens when most of the main TLG cast are still young kids
Therefore making them adults by the time the actual events of the show start
#; ooc#or I can see them being very fresh faced young adults#maybe Makucha's the oldest of the three?#I dunno!! It's hard to set something confidently in stone due to the character models not really reflecting age accurately#for me the Guard + Janja/Jasiri/hyenas/Kiburi + his float are teens in all three seasons#(yeah even in S3 they're just slightly older teens to me)#whatever I'm too tired to think about this now I'm going to bed akjhsdak

Jiona follows Fahari's gaze to the adolescent hyena below, its tongue lolling out, clearly awaiting free leftovers. Occasionally it jumps up to no avail. Amusing.
"...Should we scare the little runt off?" wasn't like the thing was any concern to much bigger leopards such as themselves, to be honest, though the constant staring eyes was beginning to get annoying.
...why do these hyenas always gotta stare. Can't a leopard eat his dinner in peace up here.

"Oh. Okay!" Nduli just accepts that without question. Hyena mannerisms weren't exactly his thing so he just assumes Cheezi right! Ooooohh, he wonders if Kiburi and Janja are like this. They are pretty close, though wouldn't readily admit it.
"How do crocs bond? Uh, we fight, I guess? ...Do you wanna fight?" it was the crocodile way, afterall.
"It’s how hyenas bond with those they like!”
At least that’s how the bow legged hyena tends to bond. He has no idea how hyenas show their affection actually - grooming, definitely. Other than that? Their clan was not really the type for affection. Cheezi has his own ways at times with Chungu and Janja though.
"How do crocs bond, then?” If he is confused then it certainly isn’t head butting.

Huh? What was the headbutt for? Is this a hyena thing? Hyenas are weird, and Cheezi's the weirdest of them all, but he's funny too. It's why they're friends! He thinks? Crocodiles and hyenas being friends... wasn't exactly common.

There. Peace and quiet. Janja yawns and stretches because now he's able to relax and get some much needed rest.
Or at least, that was the assumption.
"Cheeeeziii..." Janja pitifully whines in frustration as the other cub barrels into him soon after his relocation. This hyena was so weird, and were he not tired at the moment then he'd probably be giggling at his shenanigans.
With a brief sigh of resignation Janja rests his head upon the floor of the cavern which they called home and decided it wasn't worth fighting. Cheezi looked comfortable, at least.
Maybe he had a better shot of sleeping now that his back was facing Cheezi. His back could handle a few kicks. His face? Not so much.
...huh. where did the closeness go. He likes sleeping pressed against someone - that's how he can tell when they are leaving. Not to mention it's warm.
Cheezi lifts up his head, yawns, blinks and takes a look around with his tired eyes while remainng in that position. He was having such a nice dream too. Like climbing on top of Banzai, kicking excited with his little legs and nibbling his ears. Maybe he should just go back to dreaming about his uncle because he sure ain't here.
Still half asleep, he is having a bit trouble getting up in that position, so instead the whole thing ended up in a somerrsault and he bumped against Janja again.
There we go! He's already asleep again as if nothing happened.

Ouch! What the— oh.
Janja wakes with a start and is immediately put on edge! Only to turn around see that the only other animal here was the little hyena cub sleeping next to him in... what looked to be the most crooked, uncomfortable sleeping position.
He's mad about being woken up, but, he doesn't want to wake Cheezi either. Janja simply sighs and moves a little bit away. While it was colder on his own, at least he wasn't liable to be abruptly woken up with a kick to the face again.
Is asleep. Is dreaming. Is squeaking. Is kicking his legs. Kicks you in the face while sleeping and dreaming.

We never got to see how the jackals were recruited into Scar's Army, which I'm fine with honestly, but at the same time I am curious as to how it would've went down
I mean... Janja & his hyenas already live in the Outlands, Kiburi & his float were tricked and coerced into joining Scar, the vultures... well, they were already working with the hyenas anyway, and Ushari brought Shupavu & her skinks
But what about Reirei, Goigoi & their jackal pups? It doesn't come across like they were kicked out of the Pridelands prior (until they actually were in 'The Kupatana Celebration'). I'm fairly certain they might just be Outlands born and raised
Do they even know who Scar is? Do they care, beyond personal revenge against the Guard? If not then it makes sense they'd dip from the army the second Scar is defeated. Why hang around at that point

Ono has no idea who his parents are. He's never met them. When the juvenile Lion Guard returned him to his flock there was nobody who knew where his parents were, so they ended up raising him in a communal effort
Ironically, had Janja not attempted to steal his egg he likely would have hatched alone in a nest and promptly starved
Ono doesn't really mind how things ended up shaking out. To him the flock and the Guard are his family, so whether his parents abandoned him or died... it's not something he puts much stock into
