In den letzten Tagen sah ich zum ersten mal ein Bild von Dir in einem Schaufenster in Essen. Ich habe es mir von der Redaktion der Zeitung geben lassen.
Dein 2 Verteidiger schrieb mir einen kurzen Brief über den Prozessverlauf. Bis zum 26. 2. hat sie noch keinen genügenden überblick und schrieb daher in einem sehr beruhigenden Ton. Beunruhigend ist lediglich die Tendenz der Anklagevertretung zu sehr ins propagandistische überzugehen, was dem wahren Prozessablauf nicht entsprechen kann. Die Frage erhabt sich hier nun, nie das gericht hierauf reagiert und, ob es nicht angebracht ins etwa in gleicher Art zu antworten. Hierzu gehört allerdings eine sehr geschickte Verteidung.
Hoffentlich kannst Du Deine ganzen Entlastungszeugen für Dich voll in Anspruch nehmen.
Hier kann meiner Meinung ein grosses Plus für Dich ausgewertet werden. Denn, dass Du Leiter einer Organisation gewessen bist, die praktisch in jedem Land(?) zu handhabt wird, ist eher entlastend. Eine ähnliche Ausführung schrieb ich auch an General Taylor, neben(?) noch verschieden anderen Momenten.
Du selbst wirst Dir nun inzwischen etwas mehr über den weiteren Prozess verlauf vorstellen können. Was auch immer kommen mag, Ruhe und absolute Sicherheit mussen für Dich oberstes Gesetz sein. Dies wird es vor allen Dingen nötig sein, wenn Du als Zeuge in eigener Sache auftrittst.

WS asked Reitsch to help contact Bernadotte and thanked her for the sweets. (Explaining how he put on weight in the International Military Slimming Club Nuremberg.)

Someone claimed that WS attended the America First rally at Madison Square Garden on March 22, 1941, which seemed impossible. There was a New Yorker Walter H. Schellenberg, NSDAP Parteigenosse with high contacts, who worked with Heinz Spanknoebel and Friedrich Carl Mensing.
Can't tell if it was him on the consulate staff list, along with WS's elder sister Elizabeth, see the last pic.

A series of correspondences during WS's imprisonment.
Irene's sister Eva Grosse-Schönepauck planned to visit her in Iburg, and might take Ingo and Ilka back to Duesseldorf for a while. WS asked her not to spoil the children too much, and talked about their past weekends in Babelsberg. WS also mentioned it was amusing that Eva still called him the "old man", because of his almost daily inquiries. Irene's brother Ferdinand was also trying to help with WS's proceedings.
It seemed Irene's grandfather was running the Taunus Hotel in Wiesbaden. In the letter to Opa, WS mentioned his frustration for being useless and unproductive in captivity.

Looks like the auctioned notebook was actually signed by Irene, imitating WS’s handwriting. (Compared to WS's usual signature, the difference in the capital S was too obvious.)

On 31 May 1940, Wilhelm Schmitz of IV E 6 reported to WS, the foreign performers in varieté and cabaret are almost exclusively Spaniards, Italians, Lithuanians and Latin Americans. They were suspected to be spies or at least intermediaries. Therefore an investigation of national scale was necessary. Müller had approved the proposal.

In respond to Kaethe's request through the transportation company, WS explained the whereabouts of the aforementioned objects in this letter to his lawyer Jacke. In his point of view, Kaethe's requests were "endless harassments". He agreed to hand over the requested books from his own collection. There were world classics and German novels once popular in the 1900s-1910s:

In July-Aug 1940, WS had a certain liver infection during fieldwork abroad. Hence he asked for sick leave three times.
•1 Sep 1940: 10 days, went to Oberhof
•Got married on Oct 10 1940 and traveled back to Luxembourg, duration unknown
•1 Dec 1940: 4 weeks, went to Karlsbad
•About 12 Jan 1941 - 26 Jan 1941: 14 days, went to Oberhof with Irene, returned to office a few days before 28 Jan, then "was immediately back into a flood of work".
(WS wrote a letter to Prof. Valjavec on 24 Jul from Berlin. Then his letters to Valjavec and Bartholomäus revealed that he had been away from Berlin for a long time, only returning on 7 Aug. That was 6 days after the Duke of Windsor's departure from Lisbon. At the end of August he started to mention the liver infection in a few letters.)
WS stayed in a "Schloss Hotel" in Oberhof. In the 27 Sep 1940 letter he congratulated the hotel director Hans Dietrich Warsinski for hunting down a strong " einstangen Achter " (stag with a single deformed antler), and he would like to drink a toast with him but it was currently forbidden by the doctor. He also helped Warsinski to look for a Polish photographer named Dyonisius Szulczynski, who was thought to be arrested by Gestapo in Posen, however, there was no such person in the records of Posen Gestapo.
A source of US intelligence provided some background info on Warsinski, see P2. He was a friend of Otto Horcher, owner of the Horcher Restaurant in Kudamm. The restaurant used to be Göring's favourite before it moved from Berlin to Madrid. It was also frequently visited by Skorzney and other fled or released NS agents after the war. (P3: Goñi, Uki. On 28 Jan 1941 WS wrote to his doctor in Karlsbad Dr. Woermann:
•RH advised him to apply for a service injury, for which the Ministry of Interior required a brief expert opinion.
•He recovered much in Oberhof but still felt some pain.
•Irene gained 15 pounds of weight there, it was "much too good".

Hans Loritz, the corrupted Sachsenhausen commander, sent a marriage gift to WS and the latter asked for the price in order to pay it back.(80 RM)
If Loritz had not been removed for corruption, when Amt VI was counterfeiting banknotes there, I guess he would even ask for a kickback in cash...

As the new vice-Amtschef, WS forbade the staff to go out during lunchbreak, so a canteen was set up in the office building.

Alfred Bartholomäus’ name was actually registered as “Adolf” in the Düsseldorf city addressbook. Not sure if he changed his name after the war or Doerries made a mistake.
A 1936 tuition bill of WS, charging a monthly payment of 160RM, was sent to Bartholomäus’ private address.
