“How lovely,” he found himself murmuring— the idea of nestling up to Agate for the night in a blanket fort sounding very good to him for absolutely no reason that was related to camping. In fact, he actively had to dull his excitement at the prospect in order to reply in a way he deemed— appropriate. "That sounds— very fun. I can’t wait.♪”
He trailed after her at her beckoning, smiling. taking the box as she handed it over. And blinked in sudden alarm.
The cover of the Jenga “variant” had quite a great deal to say about its own contents, and Mistel’s eyes traced the description of the game, his lips soundlessly moving as he read them to himself. Set it up like a normal Jenga game, pull a block, and do whatever it says. If you knock it over, you're gettin’ it on!
Getting it on, he repeated to himself mentally, staring at the box with wide eyes. He was glad he hadn’t opted to read the product’s description out loud. This was probably a good time to feign ignorance, if only for the sake of preserving poor Agate’s innocence. Just how many times could he smooth a situation like this over? Mistel dragged a hand down his face, bit the inside of his cheek, then put on one of his most disarming smiles.
Tumblr media
“Ah, Agate..”
He opened the box and peeked inside— a few tiles about whipped cream causing him to promptly close the box again. How was he going to explain this? “You don’t really want to play Jenga do you..? Wouldn’t you rather do... um, nail painting..?♪”
Valentimes [Agate/Mistel]
She nodded her head in agreement, finding both to be nice as well (though had she not, perhaps she would not have made them apart of her so called agenda.) Her eyes lit up as a thought passed through her mind. “Oh oh-” she came up next to him, quickly washing her hands before he was finished with the running water. “I even cleaned all of my sheets; we could make a pillow fort and sleep in there tonight!” Excitement decorated her voice, as though building a fort was on par with camping in the middle of a forest.
She scratched her cheek as he inquired about the Jenga game, looking towards her living room where the game sat atop her coffee table. “I guess a variant? It’s like a Valentine’s Day one; I think it’s supposed to have trivia or something on it.” She beckoned for him to follow her to the living room, Agate continuing to speak as she walked. “I bought it on my way home from my errands today; the man at the store said it’d be tons of fun.” She picked up the box, handing it over to him to look at.

“I’m up to it♪,” he replied happily, slipping into the office and shutting the door behind him. He slouched his bag off his shoulder as he drew up to his teacher’s desk, dropping it unceremoniously and pulling a chair up alongside it.
The stack of papers was formidable, but definitely wouldn't take Mistel too long. He could probably clear through most of them in under an hour— maybe thirty minutes if he really put his mind to it. Then again, he wasn’t going to be able to do much of anything for the first half of the tests (that is, not the essay sections) without the answer sheet— so while Mr. Linden looked for it, Mistel made himself busy by snooping around the rest of his teacher’s desk, looking for something to entertain himself with.
As he snooped, he chatted lightly. He’d gotten quite good at sounding like he wasn’t up to anything while he was up to something, after all.
“My day was fine.♪ Not too much homework, which suits me just fine— though I have a paper due in English on Friday that I probably should get started on... oh, sometime before Thursday.”
He came across a coffee cup and picked it up, bringing it to his nose to smell the contents. Definitely not coffee. Mistel giggled, setting the mug down again where he’d found it.
“How was your day, Mr. Linden?♪”
Teacher’s Aide [Klaus/Mistel]
The top of his desk was settled with stacks of papers, crisscrossed on top of one another by grade and class and left in the sort of disarray that usually happened when someone tried to organize but was far too distracted. The period before classes let out for the day was free for Klaus, and he usually ended up taking that time getting things together for his next classes. Grading would follow, usually with the help of his young assistant, and then he could go home. Or to he perfumery. It was most likely going to be the latter today.
Klaus had a lot on his mind these days. He had started to set up homework for the next week, but found himself stalling more frequently than starting. Thank the heavens that he could just rely on his past self for assignments most days.
He drummed his fingers over old folders in the decades old filing cabinet, thumbing through his decade old assignments when the door opened. He knew immediately who it would be before the singsong of Mistel’s voice echoed in the room, and he smirked fondly at the studiousness of his assistant.
“Hello Mistel, welcome–” he replied with less song in his voice, but a friendly smile over his features as he looked over his shoulder to the young man. “Quite a lot on the desk back there, if you’re up to it – I’m trying to find the answer sheet now for one of the tests, actually,” he paused, attention glancing back to his folders as he tugged one out. “How was your day?”

“Ah—”
Mistel gave a small jump as a voice caught his attention— whipping around to find a man on shift, smiling across the space at him. Mistel returned the smile with a sheepish one of his own, drifting closer - taking in the fact that of anyone he could have run into, he never expected to find someone so astoundingly— princely.
“Sorry, sir—”
It wasn't until he’d drawn up nearer that he’d seen what the man had been doing moments before. The collection of spears was as impressive as the rest of the front room - and impressively shinier in the spots the man had already attended to. Mistel stared for a moment, losing his train of thought - before catching it again with another small start.
“I’m not here to buy,” he said at once, half disappointed to have to set this boundary. “Even though I think a lot of your wares would be very interesting to own.. ♪ I came with a totally different agenda.”
He lowered his voice conspiratorially, as though letting the man in on a secret nobody was aware of. “Ah, here we are.”
He picked up a hand basket as he passed the stack of them, still smiling to himself at the concept of buying a farm. It was a rather ideal goal if one could stomach getting their hands dirty. “Seems like you are as well.” she replied brightly, falling into stride next to him quite comfortably. “You don’t like to shop? I don’t mind it, although I’m looking forward to the day I have my own farm, so I don’t have to anymore. I’ll be able to live off of the land! Well, mostly anyway.”
After all, there were some things that were easier to buy at the store, but she’d have her own milk and eggs, along with fruits and veggies. She looked forward to that day, as she had always enjoyed helping out with her relatives’ farm when she was little.

He rolled his eyed in a momentary lapse in his smile, jiggling the keys once more to make his point.

“Movies are nice,” he agreed thoughtfully, laying out each of the plates to dry once he’d finished scrubbing them clean. Nail polish (that is, having it applied to his nails) was decidedly a little less nice, but the opportunity to let Agate hold his hand for any duration of time was, in fact, nice.
Therefore? “Nail polish is nice,” he lied, smiling.
He paused as he shut the water off, drying his hands and pondering her last suggestion.
“Jenga game?” he repeated, letting the baggy sleeves of his hoodie fall back down on their own as he drifted closer. Never one to turn down a game of any sort (especially one as brain-teasing as Jenga), his eyes lit up with the spark of friendly competition. “What do you mean— is it like Jenga? Or it’s a variant?”
Valentimes [Agate/Mistel]
“I’m sure they will be!” She reassured him, moving across the kitchen and pulling and setting out two glasses, a pitcher of water, and of course plenty of juice boxes.
Dinner had been quite pleasant, Agate thoroughly enjoying (and letting Mistel know, of course,) just how ‘yummy’ his calzones were, and how they were much better than the pot of cold ramen noodles she made for herself earlier. (Then again, it was not too hard to outshine any meals Agate prepared, even if following the same recipe as her.)
After thanking him for dinner, she set to helping tidying after dinner by wiping down her table.
“Well of course I have an agenda, silly- I wouldn’t be a very good sleepover host if I didn’t prepare somethings, now would I?” She said, shaking the rag into her trash can to rid it of any and all crumbs she might have picked up from dinner.
“I have some movies we can watch, and I picked up some pretty nail polish- oh, and games, of course- which reminds, me; I found a Jenga game that could be super fun!”

“My, aren’t you in a good mood?” he asked, beaming.
It was lovely to have had the opportunity to surround himself with such enthusiastic friends during his time at Trinity Academy— even those that had graduated several years ahead of him still held a special place in his heart. Who could count themselves lonely when one had such positive people in their life?
“I’d love to shop together,” he agreed, smiling as he led the way into the store. “Shopping for food one of my least favorite chores, if I’m being honest— so it’ll be nice to have good company to make it less of a chore, right?♪ Do you have very much to pick up?”
Out And About Town [Mistel/Amanda]
Unlike the time she ran into Neil, this time Amanda had thought ahead about what she needed to buy before she headed home. This time, there would be no running through the streets to get there before it closed. She was proud of herself for this, as it made her feel like she was finally getting better at being an adult. Slightly.
It was as she approached the store that her brown eyes fell on the familiar face of her friend, Mistel. After tucking into dinner, Mistel had come away especially proud of his accomplishments with cooking, tonight. Something about cooking for Agate always made meals all the more pleasant to eat, especially when they had the chance to eat said meal together, at the same table. The second batch had turned out much better than the sample bite he’d tried of the first batch, and he was quietly glad he’d decided to scrap the first ones after all. It had been well worth the effort, in the end.
He’d even volunteered to do the dishes when they were done, rolling the sleeves of his hoodie up as he scrubbed. He called over the water, smiling to Agate over his shoulder.
“What’s next on the agenda? ♪ I do hope you’ve made us an agenda?”

A light, apologetic chuckle sounded from her as she gave him a ‘sorry,’ a nervous tick in reaction to his attempt to help her and her almost faceplant. When he revealed the meal he had worked so hard on, Agate couldn’t help but to find herself amazed. “Oh my goodness, they’re so cute!” She exclaimed, leaning in to get a better look at them. “They came out so nicely too; I don’t think I’d ever be able to manage that!” She stood up again, continuing to speak, “And they smell super tasty too; you must have really, really worked hard on these.”

“Wait— really?”
The stranger’s response had caught Mistel so off guard that he nearly laughed out loud with relief, the word of incredulous disbelief leaving his mouth before he’d even thought through his response. Mistel giggled briefly, awkwardly— leaning around the aisle to take a peek at the front counter, before shuffling another step further out of sight.
Now, grinning as though he were getting away with something, he lowered his voice— flipping back to the piece he’d been reading just before he was caught.
“It says there’s a witch in the woods who comes out to date the man who runs the fortune shop.♪ It’s funny, because not even a few weeks ago they were saying that the man who runs the fortune shop collects cats to experiment on— that’s awful don’t you think, if there’s a witch involved too? He could tell he had caught the young man off guard, his eyes glancing from him to the newspaper he held within his hands. He listened as the blond began to explain himself, Ethelberd wondering if perhaps the young man felt he may be in trouble for reading the paper within the store rather than purchasing it and bringing it home with him.
His interest piqued, however, at the mention of the headlining story involving a witch. Brows raising, he brought a hand to his chin.
“A witch,” he repeated, glancing to the rack where the boy had undoubtedly retrieved the paper, only to find the last one in stock had been the very one the blond had been holding in his hands, “that’s quite interesting indeed for a witch to have made a headline; what exactly did she do if I might ask?”

Mistel glanced up, surprised, at the sound of someone’s voice.
Tumblr media
“Ah—” he said immediately, as though this were an appropriate answer to the thing that had been said to him.
His first response, after making an unintelligible noise of alarm, was to attempt to roll the newspaper (that he’d just been flipping through without paying for) back up and put it back on the shelf. This was unfortunately not easy to do with nervous hands— at least, not without alerting the person at the front counter by making a lot of crinkling-paper-sounds. Better to take another route.
“I was only glancing through,” he began, putting on his most innocent smile for the stranger’s sake. It was the look he always hoped conveyed I am not doing anything I shouldn’t be doing. “I saw the headline about the witch and got curious, that’s all. ♪ I was just going to buy it in a second, actually.”

Though he had little use for the shops within the city, Ethelberd had found through the course of his two millennia that even the most inconspicuous shop could harbor what, or even whom, he sought out.
The few stores he had come across so far had nothing inside that stood out to him; people and wares alike. Mortal shops, he had assumed that they were, as no trace or sense of anything magical was evident within them.
He approached one final store front, a general store as it had been named. Upon entering, it did not take him long to see that the name had been appropriate; a variety of different items, each varying in their uses, had been on display for sale, from books, to tools, even ores. Though most seemed to be of no interest to him, he had found, however, that hidden within the normal items for sale were a few which held magical properties.
‘Interesting….’ he thought to himself, making a mental note of the store.
Glancing around once more, he had noticed another individual had been in the shop as well, having already been inside before he had entered. It was clear whatever they were looking at had their attention. It could have very well been nothing, of course, but keeping in mind the few magical items the store had carried, he felt it would be foolish not to investigate.
“Hello,” he approached the person with a smile, “you seem quite interested in that.”

Mistel paused at his locker, sighing to himself as the hallway cleared out— tucking away the books he knew he would not need this evening for homework, pulling out the ones he did.
