Your personal triggers and squicks do not get to determine what kind of art other people make.
People make shit. It's what we do. We make shit to explore, to inspire, to explain, to understand, but also to cope, to process, to educate, to warn, to go, "hey, wouldn't that be fucked up? Wild, right?"
Yes, sure, there are things that should be handled with care if they are used at all. But plenty more things are subjective. Some things are just not going to be to your tastes. So go find something that is to your tastes and stop worrying so much about what other people are doing and trying to dictate universal moral precepts about art based on your personal triggers and squicks.
I find possession stories super fucking triggering if I encounter them without warning, especially if they function as a sexual abuse metaphor. I'm not over here campaigning for every horror artist to stop writing possession stories because they make me feel shaky and dissociated. I just check Does The Dog Die before watching certain genres, and I have my husband or roommate preview anything I think might upset me so they can give me more detail. And if I genuinely don't think I can't handle it, I don't watch it. It's that simple.

Agree 100%
Never Thought off.........Now Absolutely Need............
Tumblr media
I am not talking about the characters: Trin and Wave and their story and history together.
What I am actually talking about are: Guy Sivakorn and Pod Suphakorn.
Whoever thought of putting them together in the same frame with the hint of possibility of a romantic angle is a fucking tease!
Tumblr media
But fucking seriously who the hell in the whole BL fangirling fandom shipped them or hell even saw them as a probable BL pair. But these GMM people did! And once I saw them; I can't unthink of them now.
Maybe it is because of my age, I want to see grown-up adult men being in BLs.
Tumblr media
The probable chemistry in that 2 second eye-contact (even if one-sided) conveyed so much of their dynamics.
Or maybe that's what seasoned-experienced actors bring in to their characters and in their stories.
But whatever it is I want to see them play as a couple in a series. That's all.
I would like to end my rant here. Thank you.

Parasocial relationships in BL and the extremes they can lead to
Disclaimer: While I tried to be as factual as possible, this represent my own opinion.
The screenshots are mostly taken from one fandom because they provide the most accessible material at this point in time. They are not being branded as "worse" than any other fandoms. The screenshots and examples also don't represent the fandom as a whole.
Parasocial relationships refer to the feeling of closeness or connection that viewers may have towards fictional characters or real-life public figures, such as actors, musicians, or politicians. These relationships are one-sided, as the viewer is aware that the character or figure is not aware of their existence. The term "parasocial" was first coined in 1956 by researcher Donald Horton and researcher Richard Wohl to describe the phenomenon of television viewers developing personal connections to television characters.(Source)
Fans of BL series often form strong parasocial relationships with the actors who portray the characters or the characters or the mixture of both, for which I am actually lacking the term and will therefore call it "fictionalised actor" to make the distinction easier between the three.
Fictionalised actor is the fantasy version of the actor that fans make up for various reasons and which oftentimes goes hand in hand with the character the actor plays on screen and said character's preferences like love interest, music, food, clothing style or character traits. It is note worthy that the fictionalised actor usually completely replaces the real actor in the minds of the fans in these extreme parasocial relationships, something they are not aware of.
These fictionalised actors are not only a product of fans' fantasies in the BL world, but are actually wanted and encouraged by fanservice in BL. Fanservice, originally a concept from Mangas which gave fans other versions of their favorite characters that they asked for. (Source)
In BL means that the actors who play the onscreen couple let fans live in their fantasy world longer by acting to some extend like a couple or at least leave the option open that there could be more between them. It shows in feeding each other, straightening each others clothes, sitting on each others lap (usually keeping the seme/uke dynamics that are shown in the series) and answering question about the status of their relationship or their feelings for each other with non-specific answers that leave a lot of room for interpretation. Fanservice is performed in public events, on stage, in interviews and also in "behind the scenes" videos or shoots and workshops for the show, creating the illusion that the two actors are really that close behind the scenes.
For some fans, the feeling of parasocial relationships with actors can be a positive aspect of their viewing experience, providing them with a sense of connection and community. However, it's also important to remember that these relationships are one-sided and that the actors are not actually aware of the viewer's existence or feelings and that they do not reciprocate in the way the fans want them to. From the actors point of view fans remain strangers, especially in large fandoms and they rarely are able to even name them and there is no friendship, love relationship or a personal connection in direction from the actors towards the fans, at least not on a level that surpasses feeling of "cool, they're my fans and that's why I love them and am thankful".
The phenomenon of parasocial relationships with Thai BL actors can have an impact on the mental health of fans. Some fans may develop unrealistic expectations of the actors, leading to disappointment and feelings of rejection when the actors do not respond to their messages or comments or when a situation is presented where the reality of the real actor's personality and own wants and needs can't be denied anymore, like officially getting a partner that is not the ship partner for example. In this case the love and devotion oftentimes turns to hate either towards the actor, their partners or both. If the ship-partner's fictional actor personality is part of the fantasy, then this part of the ship often is pitied and morally elevated, while the "culprit" gets the hate.
Additionally, some fans may develop an obsession with the actors, which can negatively impact their daily lives and relationships. It's important for fans to understand that these relationships are one-sided and that the actors are not actually aware of their existence or feelings. It's also important to maintain a healthy balance between enjoying the entertainment and maintaining a healthy perspective on reality. Sadly, especially with those very active on social media, this doesn't seem to be the case. This also applies to the distinction between actor and portrayed character and fictionalised actor.
That this is not always happening, shows clearly in recent events:
Since the allegations against Build Jakapan, the actor who plays "Pete" in the show "KinnPorsche", have started his fans have gone on a warpath, not even considering for a second that the claims of him physically abusing his then girlfriend, accepting expensive gifts and maybe cheating can be true. Instead they immediately badmouthed Poi, the one who made the claims, categorically denied that Build would ever date her or even sleep with her and just... it can't be true. There is no reasoning with those who are so deep in. Again, I am not saying the claims are true. What I am saying is that they could be true and that it has to be investigated.
However, for these fans the fictionalised actor version of Build is so perfect that even voicing the possibility out loud that there could be some truth to it, is a declaration of war.
Tumblr media
As the tweet above shows, it also gives an opportunity to create an "us with HIM against the rest of the world". They automatically assume that everything they do from "investigating" to sending hate messages to Poi and those they deem associated with her, insulting Pond and production company BOC (I could go on) is done in Build's name, for Build and will absolutely meet his approval.
"I'm sure he is proud of us.... well educated minds are his bubbles (his fans)" also indicates that the other side is not as well educated. Therefore all the others are the stupid ones who believe the lies.
That their action might get Build into even more trouble because it puts even more pressure on everyone and escalated everything even further does not occur to them. Since Build has been taken off social media there is no statement from him either way and so there is no direction.
But even if there were, that fans wouldn't even listen to their idols MileApo fans showed a while ago, when Mile and Apo spoke up and told everyone that they like it that all the other actors get work as well and get promo deals. "we don't care even if they say it themselves" was a common opinion on twitter shortly after. Why? Because the opinion of the real people (actors) clashed with fans idea of what the fictionalised actors want (more cried out and started an uproar that MileApo don't get enough attention from BOC and not enough promo deals and screen-time). It clearly showed that ultimately it's not about the real people for the fans, but only about the fictionalised versions of them. The perceived need of the fictionalised actors, here more jobs and screentime for the fans, outweighed the actual statements of the actors for these fans.
And of course the fans always know exactly what the fictionalised actors want, feel and think in each situation:
Tumblr media
In the fans' minds the fictionalised actors here (Zee and Nunew) just can't wait to kiss each other in front of the cameras again, even when it's for their roles (Lian and Kuea) and therefore the fictionalised actors get to decide how they kiss.
The reality on set, that each kiss is shot multiple times with lots of people around and the angle is more important than everything else and gets corrected and the kisses are choreographed, has no place in the fans minds. The parasocial relationship they have with the fictionalised actor is too strong to accept the reality of what shooting a kissing scenes looks like.
How much fans love and adore the fictionalised actors, this tweet shows very clearly:
Tumblr media
This fan claims that they love the fictionalised version of the actor as much as their own kids and even think of the actor when they hug their kids.
For the safety and emotional wellbeing of the kids I hope that's an exaggeration for the internet and I am not even sure there are really kids involved. Especially in current circumstances when said "hugged kid" is an alleged abuser that's a very weird picture that's painted here. It also puts the fictionalised actor in a position equal or even higher than the real family members, even ones own children when it comes to perceived feelings of love and affection.
Tumblr media
Another aspect that goes hand in hand with the previously mentioned emotional attachement of the parasocial relationship is that fans often claim to get happiness or emotional wellbeing from said fictionalised actor. "He saved me", "he brought me back from the dark" and so on are often used to describe how important that relationship is for the fans, without realising that there is no actual exchange of any kind happening. Things actual people could provide like long talks, hugs, encouragement, closeness etc is not taken into consideration and instead the focus is put on a smile, a cute look, or a funny moment from the actor, that is not aimed at that specific fan.
Tumblr media
The projection of general actions or random moments as meaningful, full of hidden messages or clues is also common. Simple things like the color of clothes, a song, background decorations, the use of a specific word or a gesture are turned into messages that only the real fans can decipher and of course the fictionalised actor knows that and leaves these easter-eggs for his fans. There are really no limits to what can become meaningful in the eyes of the fans.
In return the fans attach nicknames to the fictional actors that represent the perceived character of the fictionalised actor. From husband, my boyfriend, my baby, my son, my daddy.... everything is game. Of course the baby is someone cute, innocent and docile, the son someone young(er) and so on.
In times of crisis in the fandom, what is also common is the claim that the third wall gets broken, usually by an anonymous close friend of the fictionalised actor, who can't be named, and who sends out messages to very important fans to be passed on to the other fans. These messages usually emphasise on how important and right it is what the fans are doing and how the fictionalised actor appreciates it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While this is harmless in a way, that it only elevates the status of this one fan and brings them closer to the fictionalised actor, there have been times when these parasocial relationships turned dangerous.
In the KinnPorsche fandom fans have shown up at restaurants and BOC offices unasked and invaded in the actors private time.
For Billkin, the actor and singer who played "Teh" in "I told sunset about you" it got scary when fans followed him several days in their car to his home and basically stalked him. It lead to him confronting them and calling the police and his management.
In conclusion, there are harmless parasocial relationships that mainly create happiness for the fans. However, in times when the fandom is in crisis for whatever reason or when fans completely lose the sense of what is real and what is not, things quickly escalate online as well as in real life for the actors and people associated with them. Then boundaries are crossed, common decency and reason leaves the building and extreme reactions are shown. That's when the parasocial relationships become dangerous for the physical and mental wellbeing of other fans, actors, people associated with the actors or those who brought up things against the actors. It's also worth mentioning that these extreme reactions are also damaging to fans and fandoms themselves, because one "miss-step" and fans turn on each other or they get shown the consequences in form of blockings (online or from events) or even restraining orders and law suits like in the case of those fans who endangered Billkin's safety on the road.
As always you are welcome to disagree with what I wrote above, but do so respectfully and with arguments. Hate and insults will get deleted and no other reaction.
Edit: because I just posted it on another post: There is an interesting article out that sheds a more scientific light on the topic, albeit in one very special case. It shows however how far things can go and how dangerous it might be for all involved. You can read it there or download the pdf

BL- BOYS' LOVE:
Series: ADDICTED (2016, CHINA)
Do you remember when Gu Hai (JOHNNY HUANG) first met his step brother Bai Luo Yin (TIMMY XU) having no idea they were step brothers.
Gu Hai was immediately intrigued by Bai Luo Yin even though Gu Hai had a girlfriend. He ripped Bai Luo Yin's composition book to practice writing. He followed him home in a cab. He even listened to him have a conversation with dad.
Hearing he was short on underwear he bought him some leaving them first in his school desk. Then in his backpack.

As a confrontation happened. Gu Hai only became deeper involved with Bai Luo Yin. Who at first hated his step brother.

KinnPorsche fandom - why being a fan is mostly about the fans and not the stars at this point
KinnPorsche is a show that had one main couple, Kinn and Porsche (Mile and Apo), but also features two other couples on screen: Vegas and Pete (Bible and Build) and Kim and Porchay (Jeff and Barcode).
Right from the start, well at least since BOC took over, they made it clear that this show is a group project, a team effort and that they would all shoulder the responsibilities together as well as enjoy the benefits.
Many, but not all, of the actors are also signed to BOC or changed to BOC sometime later during the tour.
During the shooting of the show promo work was done by all actors, behind the scenes footage was shot for all of them and so on. When the show was done and advertising gigs and interviews started it was suddenly surprising to some that again all of the actors were there and not just Mile and Apo.
Tumblr media
Quickly Mile and Apo fans then started to complain about the lack of footage and events for only them, clearly not understanding that while it means more footage for the fans it also means more work for the two of them. What fans didn't take into consideration is that Mile is still working for his family's business, which means he basically has two full time jobs. And on top they shot a complete new movie with the focus again, on Apo and Mile.
Jeff was not signed yet under BOC and Barcode too inexperienced and also tied up at school, so Bible and Build, Tong and all the others had to take over.
What then started was an odd form of blame game between MileApo and BibleBuild fans: Basically each group of fans demanded that their favorite ship gets more screen time than the other and becomes more heavily featured. To the glee of MileApo fans Build's past stupid comments came out and the hate was poured out over him. He was gone from public events, hurray... just Bible suddenly showed up with Apo and Mile and ... how dare he?!
Tumblr media
Next Jeff and Barcode did more events and the whole thing entered round three. Jeff was basically called a child molester, Build had been cancelled already and BOC was incompetent and not interested in MileApo fans, the fans said.
Bible and Build fans also only wanted their couple to be featured and a turf war in twitter started between the two fan groups. One group demanded and apology from BOC then the other group did, then the actors were dragged into it and one was called talentless, another apparently was hated by his peers...
The fans went as far as saying "I don't give a shit when MileApo tell us we want to get along all of us and we want everyone to have opportunities". Who trended what also became important and a simple "Thank you to the fans" from BOC was not enough anymore, because they demanded that the exact fandom would be named who made the trending (in their minds) possible.
It became more and more obvious that it's never been about Apo, Mile, Build, Bible or Jeff and Barcode. Ultimately, the whole thing is about the fan who wants confirmation online and from BOC or the actors that THEY did great, that THEIR group is better than another. I am waiting for the day when they demand to be named and the ship name is not enough anymore.
What the idea of entitlement can do can be seen in a different way in the Kit Connor case. Fans, his OWN fans, thought they were entitled to know about his sexuality while the OTHER group accused him of queerbaiting, a term that in this case is totally wrongly used. But it's a buzz word, so let's throw it around and drag down a person or group to make me feel better... it resulted in Kit feeling forced to out himself.
Tumblr media
We're at a point now where fans argue with BOC and the actors and other fans about who is allowed to put a sign up where and in which size and who shows up on the behind the scenes clips more. There's arguments about who gets thanked and who is more talented.
The most stupid thing about all of this is, that the actors all seem to get along great behind the scenes. Mile and Apo are as tight as ever, Bible and Build get along well and Jeff still looks after Barcode. But Mile and Apo also look after Barcode and so do Tong and Bible. But he also gets along great with Ta. Jeff and Apo seem to have a great friendship going on with Tong and Build hangs out with Nodt and the dancers, while Bible chills with the rest or Mile goes shopping with Barcode. They all get along.
Tumblr media
The whole discussions about who is better and gets more screen-time and has the bigger signs is all fanmade. There are people on twitter with fan-handles who, if you check their history, make one flaming tweet after the next. It's attack after attack only broken by a quick 'I demand an apology' from whoever and if they get it they critique that apology as 'not enough'.
Tumblr media
Frankly, I myself, to talk about myself personally here for a second, am sick of this shit. I want these people to just shut up and leave the actors and the production alone and just enjoy the events. But I also think that maybe that's a stage of maturity I wish for that's just not there yet. I should give them 5-10 years and then I'd love to see them look at their tweets of "I will fight everyone for you to my death for the rest of my life" and go "Good lord... what was I thinking?!" Let's hope the damage they do in the meantime until they get there won't be too big to either the actors nor the studio or even other fans.
