Prompt 29 - Bodyguard AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 29, word count 490
James had been Sirius’s bodyguard for years. They’d long ago turned from guard and principal to friends. Sirius didn’t take risks without telling James and James was a bit more relaxed about the strict rules he’d been given by the custodians of the House of Black. They had to hide their friendship, of course, if any of those old bats were around, but all in all, Sirius had quite a pleasant life.
Out of the blue, his brother, Regulus, requested James’s services on a trip to Paris. Sirius had argued but, in the end, relented when his old friend asked him for permission as it was an extended trip and he’d feel better knowing Regulus had someone competent with him and not like the last one who’d gotten distracted by a beauty in a red dress and lost sight of Regulus.
“I’ve got an old buddy from my unit who’s said he can cover me here.” James had told him once he’d agreed. Sirius didn't see any problem with this as James had never steered him wrong.
He appraised the lanky man before him.
“Is this some sort of joke? How exactly are you meant to protect me?” He scoffed when Remus had entered the lounge area on his first day.
Quick as the wind, Remus was behind him, wrapping his arms around his waist and throat, pinning him against his chest, a small blade pressed into his throat. He let Sirius go almost as quickly as he’d captured him. The furious wildness that roared from his face and eyes nearly made Sirius swoon. He gasped as he realised he’d stopped breathing.
He was so much stronger than he looked. That hideous knitted jumper hid wiry muscles. Muscles grown from use and not just for vanity.
Remus straitened from his broad stance and left without a word. Sirius tried to chase after him to apologise. He opened the door and ran face-first into Remus’s back. He’d already stationed himself in front of the door. Sirius bounced off him and landed on the soft carpet, dazed.
He had to blink a few times to clear his head and when he did, the sight that beheld him nearly sent him back into that stupor. Remus was towering over him, a look of concern on his face.
“Are you alright?” Remus asked, grasping Sirius by the arms and hauling him to his feet. Sirius stumbled slightly and braced his hands against Remus’s chest. He swallowed hard as his eyes met Remus’s honey-coloured ones. Remus blinked a few times, his breath hitching once before he carefully extracted himself from Sirius and returned to his post.
This was going to be a hard two months if their first meeting had Sirius ready to jump him. He went and took a very long, very cold shower, trying his hardest to ignore the images of those molten honey eyes staring into his soul, flickering through his mind.

Prompt 25 - Criminal AU
@wolfstarmicrofic - April 25th, 835 words
He climbs deftly through the window. Recon had been correct. Remus has no problem getting into the house and up a flight of stairs, protected by the night and its silence. Get into a room, out through a window, climb the little stretch of wall and into the next window. A room, shockingly different from the others he's seen so far. Not in dimensions, but in decoration. Posters thrown up the walls, music ones, movies, a couple from festivals Remus himself had wanted to attend.
He walks slowly to the bed, in complete silence. Steps light, he wills his heart to beat slower, breathing so low you'd have to know what to look for in order to hear him. They don't call him The Wolf for nothing.
He pulls the gun out of its holster, a silencer already in place. Remus lowers the gun, closer, almost touching the shape of a man under the covers. The man is lying facing the door, as Remus knew he would. James had been observing the man's habits for weeks now, determining the best moment to strike, and he was the best at recon. But the client had decided to rush them, saying it had to be done tonight, so here Remus was. Bullets were not his preferred method for assassination, but in a pinch, it would have to do.
Slowly, Remus lowers the safety lock. Time seems to stop, there's a rush in his ears, one he's familiar with by now. The Wolf closing in on a prey, so close he can already taste blood.
"Can you hurry up? This wait is killing me" the man on the bed speaks and it startles Remus so badly he almost shoots blindly. He doesn't, because he's a professional, but it's a close call. Remus huffs behind the mask that cover the lower part of his face.
The man sits up on the bed, and Remus is surprised to see him with his hair done, eyeliner sharp, and dressed in a fucking tuxedo of all things. Sirius Black looks back at him with a thunderous frown, but fear glints in his eyes. Remus doesn't lower his gun.
"You've come to kill me, I know" Sirius says. His eyes flicker to the window and back at Remus. There's the faintest breeze coming in, making a few strands of hair dance against his sharp cheekbones.
"If I say no, would you believe me?" Remus says it before he can think better of it. He shouldn't have, he never speaks on the job, silence is his oldest and best ally. But again, never has a target been able to see him coming. Sirius snorts in response.
"Before you- kill me, would you tell me who it was?" Sirius asks, and there it is again, Remus notices, that quick flicker of his eyes.
"A gentleman never tells" is all Remus says, narrowing his eyes. But now he needs to know something himself. "How did you know I was here?"
"Oh, believe me, I've climbed enough times through that window to know exactly how it sounds when someone climbs in" Sirius laughs, but there's no humor. "Was it Father?"
Remus lowers his gun minutely. Licks his lips behind the mask.
"Your Mother" Remus says. He sees Sirius eyebrows spasm, as if in sudden pain, but his body remains calm. Remus is impressed, he would make a good agent yet.
"Do it fast, yeah?" Sirius says. And lies back down. But there's something about it that doesn't sit right with Remus anymore. Maybe it's the glint of fear in those eyes, maybe it's the posters on the walls, all the same bands Remus listens to, maybe it's the three piece suit he is wearing, the proof that this man knew he was going to die today, and wore something appropriately dramatic.
"How much do you like your life as it is now?" Remus asks, and he finally lowers the gun. Sirius eyes follow the movement.
"Not much, yet thankfully I won't have to endure it much longer" Sirius replies, but there's a note of doubt in his tone. Remus can see straight through that bravado.
"Come with me" he says. Sirius' eyes snap up to his face. A question. "Come with me now, and you'll live. Not this fancy life you've had, but- a life. A life of your own"
Remus offers it the same way it was offered to him, what seems like ages ago, by the man who taught him most of the skills he is now known for. It's a crude offer, but it's honest. And suddenly, he wants nothing more but for Sirius to accept it.
A beat of his heart, the click of the safety lock back on. A flicker of eyes towards the door, then towards the window. Remus extends his gloved hand, and long, pale fingers reach him halfway.
James is going to laugh so much when Remus gets back with a target in tow and a story of a man climbing out of his own house in a tuxedo.

Prompt 28 - Dogwalking AU
@wolfstarmicrofic - April 28th, 1284 words
The doorbell rings in the middle of a Saturday, and Padfoot, bless that big silly boy, barks and wags his tail in his better impersonation of a golden retriever.
When Remus picked him up from the shelter, he was told Padfoot was a dog not many people took interest in, big and black as he was, people assumed he'd be aggressive. No matter he was actually a sweet silly puppy at heart, no matter his previous owner had obviously trained him well. In French of all languages, but still, well trained once you got the hang of the right commands.
It was Lily who had called him, almost begging him to take this dog. Padfoot was clearly struggling to adapt to the shelter, needed extra cuddles from the humans, and although he was very friendly, the volunteers could see him getting sadder by the day. So Lily, in her endless wisdom, had called the one friend who also needed some extra company, who also needed those extra cuddles, and who struggled to voice that need. And so Remus had found himself with a lap full of Padfoot and jumpers that would forever be interwoven with black dog hair.
Enough to say it had been some very happy six months so far.
So here they are, cuddling on the sofa, Remus with a cup of tea on one hand and a dark romance novel in the other, something he's reading for the bookclub Mary roped him into. Padfoot lying down mostly on top of him, a happy dog smile on his furry little face as he drools in his sleep. The doorbell rings and Padfoot scrambles up, paws expertly finding and painfully digging in all of Remus' soft places.
"Coming! Just a sec! No, Pads, back, stand back- No, Padfoot, wait, listen you need to let me open the door-" Remus finally manages to push Padfoot out of the way and open the door just a crack. Outside, there are two handsome young men, one big and buff and sporting a pair of glasses that would look nerdy on anyone else but on him just look sexy, and one tall and lean, leather jacket and wide legged pants hugging a tight waist barely visible under a crop top.
Remus immediately can be sure of two things: one, it's been way too long since he got laid if he's thirsting so hard over strangers, and two, this is probably a type of scam, since how else would two people that looked like this ever knock randomly on Remus' door?
"Hi!" The dark skinned one says with a bright smile. Padfoot barks louder, trying to push against Remus' legs.
"No, Pads, please shh- Hello?" Remus answers.
"Is that your dog?" Says the man in leather, hands in his pockets, but head trying to peak behind Remus. Padfoot barks and barks and barks.
"Yeah?" Remus says, and it's almost a question. "Sorry for the noise, if that's the problem, we're usually a lot quieter than this, he's just excit-"
"He's a very handsome dog" interrupts the man, eyes shining.
"...ok" Remus doesn't want to be rude, really, but what ever? He almost closes the door in their faces, he would have, if he wasn't both trying to hold the door and stop Padfoot from pushing it open. "No, Pads, please, what is happening, love? Please shhh"
"I told you it was Padfoot!" Says the one with the glasses, slapping the other man on the back and then coming even closer, to kneel by Remus' door and try to pet Padfoot through the small crack. Padfoot goes berserk at this. "Name's James, this is Sirius-" James nods to the other man, and then his voice shifts to a baby voice "-and this is baby Padfoot, yes you are, yes you are baby boy, who's the bestest boy?"
"How did you, uhm, did you find my address from the shelter?" Remus says, thinking maybe Lily lead them here.
"The shelter? He was in a shelter?" Sirius eyes snap up to Remus' face, searching for something. His eyes are still shining dangerously.
"Oh no, I saw you two walking and I followed you the other day" James says casually, as if that's just the most normal thing to do, follow people home, and then adds, with a wink "I could recognize my nephew anywhere"
Remus finally opens the door, and Padfoot runs out, jumping up and down, around the two men. He then jumps right up onto Sirius chest, huge black dog being held like the most precious thing, and Sirius just starts bawling, right then and there, against Padfoot's fur. The dog licks his face and wags his tail. Remus is moved but also very, very confused.
"I was told he was surrendered" Remus says, doubtfully, after the sobs diminish. "His family couldn't take care of him anymore"
"They told me they killed him" Sirius says, and starts sobbing hard again. James runs a hand up and down his back, looking pained.
"Maybe Reggie took him. He's smart like that, and you always said he loves animals, he probably lied to them" James says, and looks at Remus as if asking for support on this. Remus almost throws his hands up. What can he even say? He doesn't know who this Reggie person is! Hell, he doesn't know who these two men are!
"So" Remus starts, feeling at a loss but also starting to feel slightly annoyed. Whoever these people are, they are clearly the previous owners, but Remus- well, Remus loves this dog, alright? And he's not going to let him go, especially not back to the family that abandoned him in the first place. "I'm sorry, but- you can't take him"
The two men look up at him, Sirius still teary eyed, James tilting his head as if confused.
"You can't take him with you, I mean" Remus says, hoping his voice sounds more confident than he feels. "He's- we live together, now, he's been living here for months, and he was in the shelter a long time too, so I don't think-"
"No, I understand" Sirius interrupts, and Padfoot finally jumps down. Wagging his tail happily, watching all of them with big, happy eyes.
"Sirius-" James starts, voice unsure.
"No, James, that makes sense. This is his home now and I think..." Sirius trails off.
"Remus"
"...I think Remus is right" he finishes, hand on his hips and nodding as if trying to convince himself.
James looks at Sirius with something close to heartbreak in his eyes, Sirius looks at Padfoot adoringly, Padfoot comes to Remus, all silly smiles and happy tail, and Remus says something he had never considered before.
"Maybe you could walk him, sometimes?" Remus says, and when two sets of eyes look up at him, he blushes. "I mean, he will still live here, but if you want... You could take him for walks, or to the dog park"
"Oh! Like joint custody!" James perks up with a bright smile. Remus winces.
"Like dogwalking" Remus corrects, but he sees Sirius' hopeful smile.
"Yeah, I'd- I'd love that, actually."
Remus' heart beats faster when Sirius looks him straight in the eyes. He suddenly has a feeling this will all be too much like co-parenting.
He blushes, and when Sirius says he'll stop by the next day and asks Remus for his favorite coffee order so he can bring some for him, Remus fights the urge to bite his lip like a teenage girl.
He closes the door, and slides down until he's sitting with his back against it, and a lap full of happy, panting Padfoot.
"Oh, Pads, what did we get ourselves into?"

Random employee (seeing Sirius’ engagement ring on his finger): Oh! Who’s the lucky lady?
Sirius: What?
Random Employee: The ring on your finger is an engagement ring right? Who popped the question? You or her?
Sirius: I’m wearing ripped skinny jeans, a gay pride shirt, and I have a full face of makeup on right now.
Sirius: And you think I’m with a girl??
Employee: …
(later)
Sirius: I need to look gayer
Remus: What?

longing - @jegulus-microfic - word count: 167
James stared at Sirius with a look of nothing less than longing.
Not because it was Sirius. No! It was because Sirius had nabbed the very last piece of treacle tart, leaving James without pudding.
Of course, he could have been mature about it. he could have even gone to the kitchens to get another one. But he instead chose to sit and pout.
He was quite happy with his choice, if he was honest. Fine to let Sirius feel guilty for the terribly traitorous act he'd committed.
But then a plate of his favorite dessert clanged down in front of him.
Astonished, James looked up only to see Regulus Black standing there.
"Don't make a big deal of this," Regulus mumbled before James could speak, and then quickly walked away.
And James smiled, far too happy about the little gesture from the boy he'd been pining after for weeks.
But then..."What the fuck was that?" Sirius asked thickly around a mouthful of his own tart.

(Fic I didn't know I wanted to write! So thank you for the inspiration, @wolfstarmicrofic!)
28th: Dogwalker AU
673 words
Some good old mutual pining between a dogwalker and his client!
Date My Hooman?
“Has he been a good boy?” Sirius is sitting on his knees, scratching Padfoot’s ears (and making quite the sight while doing so).
Remus crosses his arms over his chest. “Now you're just fishing for compliments. You know damn well Padfoot’s always a good boy.”
Sirius grins up at him. “Guilty as charged.” He looks back at Padfoot who's thoroughly enjoying his ear scratches. “I know my dog is great, but I love hearing other people tell me that my dog is great also.”
“Right you are,” Remus chuckles. “How was your day at the office?”
“Dreadfully dull,” Sirius replies instantly. “Really, Remus, you made some good career choices that you now get to play with dogs all day.”
“Well, I don't get to live in a house like that.” Remus nods towards Sirius’ three-story mansion with the sprawling garden around it.
Sirius winks at him as he gets up to his feet. “Maybe if you play your cards right.”
Remus can feel his cheeks heating up.
Before, he was just amused by Sirius’ flirtatious banter, and he actually gave it as good as he got. But now, he suddenly feels flustered, at a loss for words, and wholly out of his depth whenever Sirius makes a comment like that.
After long conversations, with Sirius being the last stop on Remus’ afternoon route, and being subjected to Sirius’ sharp mind and disarming sense of humour, things have changed for Remus.
He used to think that the best part of his day would always be seeing the excitement on a dog’s face when he reaches out to unclip their leash to let them run around the park and play with their friends, but now, it's like nothing compares to seeing the excitement on Sirius’ face at the end of the day as he crouches down to greet his beloved dog after long hours the office. Remus’ days have started to revolve around the moments he brings Padfoot home, and it's becoming A Problem.
“And that's not even taking into account cold, rain, new regulations, demanding clients,” Remus continues, as if he didn't hear Sirius’ last comment.
Then Remus’ own dog, Moony, dashes forward and starts licking a tail-wagging Padfoot’s face, like he knows he has to say goodbye to his friend for now, and Remus’ heart just melts. “Oh, who am I kidding? It's bloody amazing.”
When the dogs have said their goodbyes, it's time for their owners to do so as well.
“See you tomorrow?” Sirius asks.
“Of course.”
“Great.” Sirius beams at him. “Looking forward to it.”
Remus’ heart skips a beat at those words. Yes, definitely A Problem.
Sirius has given Remus the key to the annex besides the main house, so he can pick up Padfoot, take him for a long walk, and then, by the time they return, Sirius will be back from the office and usually already waiting on them.
Sirius has actually turned the annex into a space especially for Padfoot, with water and food, several dog beds, toys, and a dog door, so he can go in and out to the yard whenever he wants. Sirius has even hung framed pictures on the walls of him and Padfoot together. A fuzzy feeling spreads across Remus’ chest upon seeing those pictures. A Problem indeed.
Padfoot immediately comes running, happily wagging his tail, brimming with excitement to go on his walk.
“Calm down, Pads,” Remus laughs, as the dog keeps circling his legs and jumping up and down. “Come on, I need to attach your leash, otherwise we can't go. Hey, what you've got there, buddy?” He spots a piece of paper neatly tucked underneath Padfoot’s collar and he plucks it out. As he unfolds it, he realizes it's a note.
And as he reads, a huge smile starts to spread across Remus’ face.
Dear Remus,
You might have noticed that my hooman has quite a crush on you.
Will you please save me from his desperate pining, and let my hooman take you out on a date?

An eligible husband.. (a Jegulus and Rosekiller Microfic)
For @imheredisappointingmyparents TW: deadnaming
He knew it was stupid to laugh. He was asking for trouble, really. But it was too perfect. He couldn't help it.
"Evan?" he asked, looking at his mother.
"Yes, Regina. You must marry an eligible pureblood and carry on our line," Walburga explained, her expression steely.
Regulus looked back at Evan's picture and tried not to burst. "You want me to marry Evan," he stated, just to be sure.
"Yes, Regina. We're in talks with his family."
"Right. I...right. I have to go, Mother. The Hogwarts Express arrives soon," Regulus said with a roll of his eyes. In his head he knew that he was more likely to marry the Giant Squid than Evan, but it wasn't worth arguing with his mother now.
-
When Evan joined Regulus and his other friends in their normal compartment, Regulus knew right away that he wasn't the only one who had received the exciting news. It was all over Evan's face.
So he decided to...share the news.
"Evan and I are engaged," He volunteered casually as Evan sat down next to Barty, who immediately yelped and started coughing.
"What? You're-" Barty asked, his face aghast.
But Regulus just grinned, enjoying the entertainment. "Yes, nobody's told you? We've been set up. We're going to be married after Hogwarts."
Immediately, Evan started calming Barty, rolling his eyes and saying he was not going to marry Regulus.
"But Evan! We would be such a good couple," Regulus deadpanned, fighting back a smirk.
"Just wait until your boyfriend finds out!" Evan retorted loudly. "He's even more territorial than Barty!"
Regulus paled, thinking about James's reaction. He didn't quite fancy holding him back from beating up his mother. "I want a divorce," he grumbled to Evan.

Prompt 27 - Soulmate AU
@wolfstarmicrofic April 27, word count 353
“You two are so mushy it’s making me sick,” Peter said to Remus and Sirius as they whispered to each other on the sofa.
“Ah, you’re just jealous, Pete. Wish you had yourself a bloke as sweet and fit as my Remus.” Sirius barked out a laugh, dragged Remus onto his lap and rubbed the tips of their noses together.
“If you’re going to do that, then I’m going to find James.”  Peter gathered his books and walked out of their flat, slamming the door behind him.
“Did you have to goad him, Sirius?” Remus sighed, snuggling into his boyfriend’s chest.
“We weren’t even doing anything,” Sirius scoffed. “It’s not like I was undressing you in full view of him.”
“Sirius, you were professing your undying love for me in front of Peter, who is yet to find his soulmate.” Remus tried to explain.
“Aww, you think I’m your soulmate.” Sirius batted his long eyelashes at Remus and leaned in to steal a kiss. “And what pray tell makes you think that?” He asked, genuinely wanting to know.
Remus thought about it for a moment, then answered.
“You bring me food.”
“So that’s the big main criteria for the person who completes you, food?” Sirius had to bite his tongue to stop himself from laughing.
“Food I like.” Remus protested. “And, you always make sure my phone is charged when I forget and look after me when I’m ill. You buy me books and chocolate and—”
“Remus, you’re just describing your mum.” Sirius snickered at him this time. “Come on, what else? What makes me your soulmate over being your mother?”
“You light up my whole world, Sirius. You make me feel safe and happy. That’s how I know we’re soulmates. That and you always give me the last Rolo.” Remus blushed.
“Ah, there it is, the real reason you keep me around, damn Rolo’s.” Sirius held Remus close and thought about that ring that was burning a hole in the back of his wardrobe as he came up with the perfect way to propose and, yes, it did involve a last Rolo.

soulmate au - @wolfstarmicrofic - word count: 308
He'd tried not to believe it. When James insisted that his crush was not unrequited; that there was something deeper there. It was impossible. He didn't deserve it.
But it was still surreal, on his seventeenth birthday, when Sirius passed him the marmalade and suddenly the soulmark on Remus's forearm started stinging.
It was almost too good to be true. It was too good to be true.
Because Sirius was straight. So that meant...
He dropped the marmalade and fled.
Every wizard knew that soulmarks didn't react until you were seventeen. So Remus had, for years, be forcing himself not to hope that his would sting and take shape the moment Sirius touched him after he came of age. Especially since Sirius hadn't said a word to him after his own birthday. He'd been completely normal. Hooked up with McKinnon, even.
But as he fled the hall, he heard Sirius's own voice call after him, and with the injuries sustained by his transformations, he was unable to run too far. "Go away, Pads. M'fine," he murmured, turning away from Sirius, who quickly caught up.
But Sirius's response wasn't what he thought it would be. "It happened to you, too, didn't it?" he asked, his voice full of tentative hope.
Remus turned around. "Too?"
"Merlin, I thought. I was so scared we wouldn't be a match. That maybe you didn't care for me like I care for you," Sirius mumbled, eyes roving over Remus's body, searching. "But James said it's pretty fucking obvious, with how you act and how it looks-" he cut himself off to lift his shirt, revealing the small outline of a wolf on his ribs. Sirius's soulmark.
Silently, Remus rolled up his sleeve to reveal the unmistakable shape of a paw print. "Sirius, I-"
"Fuck. Thank Merlin," Sirius laughed, grabbing him and kissing him soundly.

We Must Know, How Did it End?
“It was tricky, really. Writing songs that come from a place of pain isn’t usually my thing,” Sirius says, plastering a polite smile onto his face. “It’s difficult to describe a feeling that’s so… overwhelming.”
Peter smiles back, and Sirius can see the empathy etched across his face.
“Okay, I think we have time for some audience questions,” Pete says, turning to the audience. Sirius follows his gaze to a crew member handing a mic over to a young woman.
“Hi, uh, hi. I was just wondering if your album is based on your recent breakup? With Remus?”
His name alone makes the blood freeze in Sirius’ veins. The fan isn’t wrong, his album is essentially all about Remus. It doesn’t stop his heart from stuttering at the mention of Remus. It brings memories that he’s been trying to write out of his system back to the front of his mind. They bring a lump into his throat, and he has to blink harshly to fight back any semblance of a visceral reaction.
Thankfully, Peter steps in.
“You know what? Let’s move on. Anyone else?”
In spite of a few grumblings, the microphone travels further, landing with another fan.
“Hey. I was just wondering if you ever think that Remus dated you for the fame? I mean, his follower count has doubled since you two-”
“No, I don’t think that,” Sirius cuts in sharply. Apparently, his need to defend Remus is stronger than his hurt at their breakup. Peter is opening his mouth to speak, probably to move on again, but Sirius isn’t ready to move on. “Of course I don’t think that. Remus’ talent speaks for itself. He doesn’t need me to be his way to break out in the dance world. We might not be together anymore, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is still one of the most genuine people I have ever met. Honestly, his kindness is indescribable. Everything I said while we were together was true. That relationship was the realest thing I’ve ever had, okay? Us breaking up doesn’t diminish that.”
The whole studio has lapsed into silence, and Sirius is really regretting the way he went about that now. Even Peter’s watching him in shock. Eventually, he seems to remember his own job, clearing his throat and breaking out into a smile.
“Okay! It’s about time for us to move on…”
Sirius is pretty sure that he’s been in a trance for the past hour. He doesn’t even remember the trip back to his house. All he knows is that he’s been scrolling through his tagged posts as his manager, Benjy, shouts at him over the phone.
“This is, without a doubt, the most irresponsible thing you’ve ever done!”
“I didn’t think it was that bad,” Sirius grumbles under his breath. Unfortunately, Benjy has the ears of a fucking hawk.
“If you weren’t a public figure, and I wasn’t your fucking PR Manager, I would think it was sweet, Sirius! However, calling your relationship with Remus the realest thing you’ve ever had?! That gives tabloids every opportunity under the sun to call you obsessive!” “Yeah, well, it needed to be said,” Sirius says decisively. He’s not wrong. In what world could anyone ever see Remus as anything less than kind? Yeah, they haven’t seen the way Remus would hold Sirius through his panic attacks, say the dumbest things just to watch him smile, or the dance. The one Remus dedicated to him. The one Sirius really should delete from his camera roll.
“God, Sirius, you’re so lucky that I actually like you.” Benjy interrupts his train of thought, thankfully, letting out a groan as Sirius refreshes Instagram for the fifteenth time. “However, now you need to lay low until people forget that this happened.”
“What? That I defended him? Just because he’s my ex doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to say anything nice about him!”
“Yes it does. You can’t say anything too bad, or anything too nice. You have to be neutral. Peter was about to gloss past the question, anyway!” Sirius rolls his eyes, grateful that Benjy can’t see him as he goes scrolling again. He’s being called obsessive in countless different ways by news outlets, people who hate him, and people who have decided that his and Remus’ breakup means that it’s time to take sides. As he looks through them, he’s barely even pausing.
Until he reaches a post with Remus’ face at the front of it.
As much as he knows that he shouldn’t, he wants to watch it. He’s spent a lot of time watching the videos he promised James that he’d deleted and crying, but those were videos Sirius had filmed himself. They were personal. He hasn’t interacted with anything that Remus has posted publicly. He doesn’t actually want to be a stalker.
This feels… different. Mostly because this one has his name on it.
‘REMUS LUPIN BREAKS SILENCE ABOUT EX BOYFRIEND SIRIUS BLACK:’
“Yeah, okay, Benjy, I’ll stay silent,” Sirius says quickly, zoning out.
“Oh, really? Thanks. That was easy-”
“Okay, bye.” He hangs up before Benjy can say anything else, immediately playing the video.
It’s from one of Remus’ livestreams. His face is flushed a slight red, like it usually is after rehearsal, sitting on the floor in his studio. Sirius hates how endearing he finds it. He’s just talking, comments rolling in and the radio playing, when Sirius catches the message. It’s just another one calling him a stalker, but it stops Remus in his tracks.
“Right, you all need to leave Sirius alone,” Remus says decisively. The way his name sits in Sirius’ mouth brings a lump into his throat all over again. He really needs to stop crying over Remus, it’s getting a little sad. Maybe he is obsessive. “He isn’t stalking me. I actually haven’t spoken to him at all. Listen, the- the breakup was amicable, okay? We don’t hate each other, and we really don’t need people taking sides. All he did was defend me, which he didn’t have to do. It was nice of him, yeah, but it doesn’t make him obsessive. He’s just being a good person, he can’t help that.” Sirius smiles to himself, face warming at the compliment.
God, maybe he is obsessed.
Still, it’s so unbelievably Remus to be so willing to defend him. To immediately assume the best about Sirius.
Just when Sirius expects the clip to end, a different song starts playing. He recognises it straight away. It’s one from his new album.
‘ I told the moon about you… ’
Remus’ eyes widen at the words. At Sirius ’ words. He never has been any good at hiding the first thought that flits across his face.
“Sorry, I’m, er… I’ve got to go. Thank for- for watching, yeah,” Remus says hurriedly.
That’s when the clip ends.
For what feels like the thousandth time, Sirius wants to be in the same room as Remus, to have the privilege of finding out exactly what is going on in his head. He wants to press his thumb against the furrow in Remus’ brow and watch his face relax. Christ, he just wants to touch him, really. His forehead, his hand, his shoulders, his waist, anywhere . With a groan, he drops his head into his hands. He’s actually pathetic. James is the only one who’s allowed to hear about this, and Sirius is pretty sure he needs a stern talking to from him right about now.
There’s a knock at his front door, which Sirius assumes is James. It’s like the man can read his mind. The knocking is a little… frantic, but James is bouncy, it’s not exactly out of the ordinary.
He walks slowly over to the door, reaching out and pulling it open.
The moment he catches a glimpse of the familiar amber eyes, every muscle in Sirius’ body freezes.
Remus.
He hasn’t seen him in three months. Not since he left Sirius’ house, got on a plane, and didn’t come back. Sirius has spent a countless number of minutes trying to recall every single detail about Remus, looking at photos of the two of them, wishing that he had spent more time etching every line, every freckle, into his brain. He thought he had, really, but he was right in his interview. Remus is indescribable.
For a moment, they just look at each other, Remus’ mouth slightly ajar as though he hadn’t expected Sirius to open the door. He almost seems like he doesn’t know how he got there.
Well, until Sirius speaks.
“M- Remus? What- what are you…?” He trails off, watching the way Remus’ features set to something much more sure.
“Sirius, I love you,” he says suddenly. They’re words Sirius never expected to hear coming from Remus again. “I’m still in love with you, and I’m tired of pretending that I haven’t regretted every single step that I’ve taken since I left here. I- God, Sirius, I think we made a mistake. I- I know what we said, what we agreed on. It was too difficult with our schedules, we were both being too distant, fighting over little things,” he lists everything like it’s pointless, as Sirius tries to get his brain to fucking wake up and work. “And I get it, Sirius. I really do get it, I understand, but I’d take thousands of fights over- over dishes, or hogging blankets, instead of having to do these months all over again. This is going to sound really sad, and really bloody pathetic, but I’ve watched the videos of you writing songs in my flat more time than I can fucking count since we broke up! You told the moon about me? I know that line. I’d know it anywhere. It’s the one right before I turned the camera off and kissed you. It just made me- I don’t know, I didn’t think hearing it like that would hurt so much.” He seems to be hit with a completely different emotion, some sense of regret, and it’s probably Sirius’ fault, since he doesn’t seem to be able to get his voice to work. He can sing night after night, go on countless talk shows, but apparently this is what it takes to render Sirius speechless. “I know I’m probably overstepping a boundary, and this is really fucking stupid of me, but I- I want to try again.”
Yeah, the words really aren’t going to come out. He’s going to have to find some other way to tell Remus exactly how he feels.
“If I didn’t say something I just know that I’d regret it for the rest of my life. So tell me to leave and I will. I’ll turn around and- and I’ll move country. You’ll never have to see me again-”
He can’t say anything else, because Sirius is kissing him.
He isn’t even sure when he made the decision to do it. It’s almost like a reflex, the first thing to come naturally to him.
There’s not a second of regret that comes with it, though.
Before he can even figure out where he got the idea to do that, Remus’ arms are around Sirius’ waist, pulling him closer and holding him secure, warm, safe . His lips are soft, so familiar that Sirius wants to cry.
Actually, he is crying.
Tears start rolling down his face as he pulls away to look at Remus. Thankfully, Remus is crying himself, and somehow also grinning like an idiot, which Sirius can genuinely say is the most beautiful sight he has ever had the privilege to behold.
“Oh, my god, I love you, Remus. Moony, I love you so much,” he says quickly, hands reaching to cup Remus’ face.
“So- you- do you want-?”
“To start again? Pick up from where we left off? Anything, darling. Anything. I’ll take whatever you can give me, if it means I don’t have to try to move on. You’re not someone I can get over. I’ve tried, and I’m convinced that it’s fucking impossible,” Sirius says, making Remus laugh breathlessly and drag him back into a kiss. Not that Sirius is complaining. He would let Remus drag him anywhere. Remus is his everything. His world.
Oh, my darling, how could I ever have let you go?

Angel/Demon AU - @wolfstarmicrofic - 834 words
Remus was sitting on a bench just outside of the school, watching Harry talk with his friends, when a beautiful creature approched him. They were wearing something completely inappropriate for the middle of the afternoon, black miniskirt, fishnets thighs and platform boots. Long black hair, porcelain skin, smudged eyeliner and fiery grey eyes. But most of all, they had that unmistakable charm and aura that could only belong to dark beings. Remus himself felt drawn to them.
He had to admit, he was surprised. And curious. He didn't encounter a lot of demons these days, most of them got bored of tormenting humans when they already did it better themselves. So they tended to stick to souls and their appearance on earth became rarer over the centuries.
This one though, sat gracefully next to him, charming smile on their face.
"Hi handsome, what's your pretty name ?"
The tone was obviously flirtatious, something that, Remus suspected, was working miracles with humans. Not that he wasn't affected, but still it sounded a bit superficial.
"I'm Remus. And yours ?" he smiled anyway. "What are you doing here ?"
The fire in the demon's eyes seemed to grow, as well as their smile, that turned a bit hungry. "Name's Sirius. And, well, i guess that's for you to decide, Remus." They said his name with a syrupy sweet voice.
"No. I meant what are you doing on earth, demon ?" Remus smirked.
Their fake smile dropped and their eyes widened, but otherwise they just laughed. You could count on demons to not be deterred by anything.
"I thought you were human !"
"Yeah, I could tell."
"Well, what are you ? I've never seen you before." Their gaze seemed to scrutinize him.
"I'm an angel."
The demon - Sirius - visibly recoiled at that. They were properly suprised now. "One of the big bosses ? What are you doing on earth ?!"
Remus laughed. "I'm not that kind of angel. I'm a guardian angel. It's my job to be on earth.".
They seemed to relax at that. "Your job." They repeated in a mocking tone. "Angels, always so well-behaved." they sighed, an amused smile on their face. "So, who's your lucky human then ?"
Remus glanced back towards Harry. He hadn't even noticed that he stopped looking at him. That could not be good.
"That kid over there. Unruly hair, crooked glasses."
"No way !" Sirius seemed delighted. "That's James' son !"
Remus was confused now. How could this demon know Harry's dad ? "You- what ? How do you know that ?"
"James is my human friend." they said like it was nothing. "I find him every few lifetimes."
"Well, I fear you might be a bit late in this one." Remus answered in an apologetic voice. "He died already."
"Oh. Well he does have the tendency to die stupidly young." Sirius seemed lost in thoughts now.
That's when Remus remarked the parents waiting for their kids outside of the school, and their wary looks towards them. Or towards Sirius more specifically, seeing as they could not see him.
"Hey, Sirius. If you're staying, do you mind making yourself invisible before a worried mother calls the cops on you ?"
"Whoops." then they proceeded to do just that. "So when do we start ?"
Remus whirled around, taken aback. "What ?"
Sirius put their head on his shoulder with a genuine smile. "Well, I thought maybe I could help you, since I'm here."
Remus couldn't help it, he laughed. It was a ridiculous idea. "Demons don't help guardian angels ! They rather make our jobs harder." he said with a pointed look.
"Nah, you must know better than me that the humans' biggest ennemies are themselves. We're just having a little fun."
Well, he couldn't argue with that logic. Before he could find any answer, Sirius all but crawled on his lap, fluttering their eyelashes at him.
"Please Remus. Promise I'll be helpful. I'm just a bored eternal being. And I'd never harm James' kid."
There was only so much one could endure before they caved in, right ? Even as an angel. Remus agreed before he could think this through. "Yeah, ok."
"Great ! Let's go, he's leaving !"
Harry was indeed finally going home. As he stood up to follow him, Sirius climbed him to settle on his shoulders. He sighed.
"What are you doing ?"
"Making sure you don't forget me."
Remus hadn't planned on starting his mission with a beautiful and clingy demon on his shoulders, but he figured he didn't mind that much.

They are doing a painting date night. Wine bottle is open, paintbrushes scattered around the table, they each have their own water cup that now has a strange color from all the mixed paint. The new vinyl they got today is filling the space with warm sounds.
James and Regulus spent a sunny Sunday together, out and about. You know those day where you don’t really have to do anything but the weather is so good you come up with special errands to run or go to places you would not really get to go if you were busy. That’s how they end up in Sunday Market Extravaganza this morning, getting everything from fancy pickles to rings and handcrafted elf ears for Reggie. And then terrace lunch and walk through the park followed by shopping spree at arts&crafts shop for their impromptu painting night date. That is how they are finishing their already lovely Sunday with small molberts in front of them, wine glass in one hand and paint brush in the other.
The objective of the night is to paint each other. Regulus will paint James and it will turn out amazing and beautiful and museum worthy as James describes and James will try to paint Regulus as he really tries to not mess up but “honestly even I can’t mess up Reggies beautiful face”.
Regulus was a bit skeptical, he really likes painting but it is his alone time activity, he doesn’t really like to share the process or the product. But seeing James focusing with his tongue slightly out and brows furrowed is convincing him that sometimes saying yes to things you don’t want is good because my god James looks really adorable.
Regulus has studied James’s face, like he doesn’t even need to look at him to paint him, but every chance he gets to really look at the love of his life’s face he takes it all in. The messy curls dancing with every little head turn, smile lines around his eyes because he really does smile with the most beautiful and the biggest smile ever. Lopsided grin and jawline that could kill a man. So he is sitting there staring and painting and staring and painting and he is so so pleased.
It’s really everything Regulus loves. Days spent slowly, holding James’s arm, talking and walking and just existing submerged by warmth and love. He knows how lucky he is and feels how truly happy he is, sitting here in his home full with comfort and hugs, shared secrets of the dark, midnight snacks and morning sex and he is giddy with the feeling, he smiles at the thought that he is sitting there with his elf ears and paintbrush in his hand and he has never felt more loved or at peace and oh life is so worth living like this.
“Reggie to Earth” James’s honey coated voice pulls him down from the clouds of happiness, “Are you finished?”
“Umm..I think so” Regulus is looking at his painting, “Are you done?”
“Yes it’s done, it’s the best it can get I am afraid and if I do more I’ll just ruin it.” James is focusing back to his painting. “Show me yours please”
Regulus holds his painting up and takes a picture of it and James’s face side by side. They look identical, warm eyes and grin and everything. Regulus chuckles, he is pleased with his skills and turns the painting around to show it to James.
“Oh my god love, this is amazing” James’s eyes tear up in seconds. “I love this so much, I love you, oh this is going straight to my parents they will love it” he smiles at Regulus.
“Go on show me yours” Regulus interrupts the string of compliments eager to see how James did.
James takes a breath in and slowly turns his painting around. Only it’s not a painting, it has words on it, carefully written with love hearts around it. And suddenly Regulus’s breath hitches because his brain registers what the words say and he is looking at James on his knee and back at the painting and back at the most beautiful ring he has ever seen and oh my god he is crying.
He is crying because James is saying how much he loves Regulus and how he can not wait for another week to start without being engaged with him and how he is so beautiful and so lucky to have him and he is saying Regulus’s full name and asking the question and oh my god Regulus will marry James!
If you’ve ever seen the night sky on new years illuminated with sudden bursts of thousand fireworks you know how Regulus feels. He is full of love and fireworks of happiness are going off in his whole being.
He jumps up from his seat and cries “Yes”, the best word he has ever said, to James and hugs him with full force.
The ring is beautiful, he is hugging his now fiancee, who to nobody’s surprise is sobbing happiness tears and he oh my god is still wearing the ridiculous elf ears and sweatpants and he is engaged to the love of his life like this and it’s ridiculous and so happy. Happiest, in the arms of his forever love and a beautiful, beautiful ring on his finger.
