in light of the texas abortion ban here’s a reminder to stop debating what counts as a human, baby, or life with pro-lifers because that is not a debate you can win. you can not win a philosophical debate about what counts as a person, and you will not change their minds.

what can be proven is that in no situation under united states law is an individual legally obligated to lend their body or organs for the sake of another life. 

4.5 million people each year are in need of blood transfusion, the entire process of donating blood takes a little over an hour, it’s free, and a single pint of blood can save up to 3 peoples lives, but there is no legal obligation or requirement to donate blood in place. 

it is illegal to take organs from deceased peoples’ bodies without permission. CORPSES. bodily integrity is prioritized by law, even after death.

it doesn’t fucking matter whether a fetus is a person, whether a fetus is alive, whether a fetus has a soul. it literally doesn’t matter. pro-lifers set up the argument through that lens (hence their name) to evoke empathy and pity and take the focus away from the actual process of pregnancy, which changes a person’s body FOREVER. that is not an exaggeration. whether the pregnancy is complicated and high-risk or totally smooth sailing, the birthing person will physically never be the same. if they’re lucky, they’ll come out of it with weight gain, differently shaped breasts, and changes to the cervix/vagina. if they aren’t, there’s a fucking laundry list of potential complications that could arise, that may eventually fix themselves, need surgical or therapeutic intervention, or never go away, like varicose veins, separation of the abdominal muscles, incontinence, prolapse, diabetes, postpartum depression, and chronic pain, just off the top of my head. and this makes no mention of the very real possibility of income disruption, as well as the financial cost of giving birth, and the chance of fucking death, which is even higher for underserved communities like black women.

there is no basis for a governing body forcing an individual to lend their body or organs for the sake of another life. that is the argument. period the end.

my knowledge of japanese is very VERY basic but from what i can tell, the way 8-4 localized spamton's dialogue is just an absolute delight. he does a lot of wacky stuff, arguably much more than we got in english! he uses a bunch of weird homonyms, a bizarre combination of full-width and half-width characters, plus random bits of roman text. here's a small sample of this:

he uses the personal pronoun watakushi, but it's written as ワタ94 (since 9 and 4 are read as ku and shi respectively. 4 and 9 are also unlucky numbers in japan!). he also says 'death' and 'die' a lot... like in plain english. it's kinda scary?

'death' and desu are pronounced the same when spoken, same with 'die' and dai. so instead of daisuki, spamton says DIEsuki, and i think that's wonderful. another specific great thing is him saying "豪華賞品" (gōka shōhin) meaning "luxurious prizes", but he spells it as "業火賞品", which is pronounced the same, but the first part translates to something like 'hellfire'. lmao

spamton isn't the only one who got wacky localization treatment, too!! all of queen's dialogue is formatted like html comment tags, and she only uses katakana and kanji. it's pretty common for characters with robotic or otherwise strange sounding voices to speak using only katakana; it's kinda like writing things in all caps in english? and of course, her helmet says www instead of 'LMAO'. it's perfect

that's DEFINITELY only the surface of the silliness though—like i said my knowledge is very basic, and i'm certain there's an entire mountain of amazing nonsense that's going right over my head lmao. seriously i would kill to see a write up about utdr's localizations because there is evidently a LOT of love put into them

i hope this doesn’t sound really weird but i feel really bad for the lady who came up with gender reveal parties. she had a very legitimate reason for throwing herself one–she’d had a few miscarriages, all of them miscarrying before she was able to find out the sex of her baby and due to really wanting to have children she was distraught, so when her pregnancy made it to the milestone of being able to find out her baby’s sex, she was understandably incredibly excited and threw a party to celebrate it. honestly she had every right to do so and was more celebrating the fact that she’d carried her baby to that point rather than celebrating if it was a girl or a boy

and now she’s the inventor of this horrible thing that makes stupid people cause wildfires. all this lady wanted to do was have some cake and celebrate her pregnancy after a few miscarriages. i feel fucking terrible for her. 

Today is National Sorry Day. We should reflect on the tragedy of the mistreatment of Australia’s Indigenous cultures but also strive towards reconciliation and a better future. Australia still has a lot to go when it comes to closing the gap. The Stolen Generation didn’t end that long ago and there are still high rates of Indigenous children being taken away from their parents. There’s been a massive lasting effect of inter-generational trauma, colonialism, and genocide and we cannot pretend that this doesn’t continue to this day.
