Did Matt and Miss Kitty ever make love on the show?
"Possibly"
I think we can all agree that YES these two were definitely having sex. They were obviously very in love too, as was even admitted to in character on the show. Of course a lot of us had to fill in the blanks as to how, when, where, etc, but I kind of like that it’s open to our interpretations.
I do wish they could have been a little kinder to the relationship. Or at least have had Kitty give up much sooner than she did. It was tragic that a guy as upstanding as Matt Dillon would continue to put her dead last against his job. A lesson could have been taught if he had just once said “screw it” and gone with Kitty and have had the whole thing work out in the end.
But it was the 1950s and 60s and things were different then. Gunsmoke would have played out a lot more Deadwood style these days. I’m not sure whether I’m grateful it’s not as gritty as the real-life style Deadwood. I think I prefer the cowboy riding off into the sunset and everything being okay in the end.
