The centre of the lid won't press down if it hasn't been opened. If the middle of the lid presses down, it's been opened.

Everybody's discussing why Alastor always dresses in red, like they're coming up with reasons I can't remember but I have a theory.
As seen in the show, Alastor values women a lot more than men. And red is the colour of female empowerment, so maybe he wants to make it clear that he supports women in whatever they do.
