Email to town council because of BSL
This E-mail is in regards to the statement that is in the Bremen codes under chapter 71. It states that “The American Pit Bull, or American Pit Bull Terrier, or Pit Bull Terrier, or cross-breeds therewith, which breed is hereby found and considered to be unsafe and potentially hazardous to the citizens of the Town of Bremen.”. I find this a form of prejudice, and discrimination. I’m here to be a voice for those who don’t have one.                 I know a dog that is classified as a Pitbull and lives in Bremen, but I can assure you she is the sweetest, happiest go lucky dog. She has a family that has had her for over a year, and they have never had any problems with her being aggressive. Yet the dog is at risk of being euthanized because she is considered an “attack dog”. Even though recently an unprovoked Beagle had bit said Pitbull. Yet the Pitbull had done nothing. When the police were called they let the real danger (the beagle) get off the hook. Yet the innocent dog’s family was told that they had to get rid of her because she was a Pitbull.                 Any dog can be dangerous. It’s just a matter of how they are trained. I have volunteered at a no kill animal shelter for four years. I’ve seen a vicious golden retriever and countless Pitbull’s who wouldn’t hurt a fly. They can be bred for one thing but become another. DNA isn’t the only influence a being has. Environmental influence has a huge impact on any creature. Dogs as a species have been domesticated over the years and that doesn’t change for a Pitbull, or any breed. Every person and every animal deserves a chance to prove themselves.                 One of the things I have been taught is that we should learn from our history. One of the problems that we as a species have faced is discrimination and assumption. Based on our parents, the color of our skin, the clothes we wear, people will label us. Just based on these small facts we could be kept from equality. This is very similar to the fact of assuming all Pitbull’s are a danger to society. I can come from a long line of professional boxers, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to be one. Pitbull’s might have been bred to fight, but that doesn’t mean they will.                 I also find that this rule is contradictory to others set in chapter 71. In “71.02 General Animal Care Requirements” it states that as an owner we need to make sure that the animal we possess doesn’t BECOME a danger or a nuisance. This would mean that they are innocent until proven guilty. Also within the code you describe a dangerous animal as “Any animal (1)  that has, off its owner's property attacked another animal or livestock; or (2) which as attacked or which has attempted to attack, unprovoked, any human being, whether on or off the owner's property; or (3) which has bitten or attacked a person, causing wounds or injuries creating a potential danger to the health and life of the victim; or (4) which is found to be at large three times or more.” This would mean that any animal is incorrupt until they violate when of these examples.                 A case that is closer to home is that South Bend has gone through the same issue. As of 2014 they have completely gotten rid of breed specific legislation, but in the past they have euthanized Pitbull’s just because of their presence within city limits. Approximately 800,000 Pitbull’s are given up and euthanized each year in the United States alone. That’s 800,000 lives. Please don’t let this town be a contribution to it.                 Breed restriction legislation is normally used to ease the fears of citizens, but saying all Pit Bulls are aggressive is just a misconception. I hope that you look into this potential change with an open mind. I am more than happy to express my thoughts in person or at a meeting. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts on this issue.                 -Miranda Starke

My love for Broadway
Broadway is an art. It's where people can express themselves on stage and others can enjoy it. You get a transform yourself into a new character and you get to experience their emotions. But you don't get a billion chances to experience it. You get one on-stage appearance twice a day. It's honestly a craft more than anything. I respect Broadway actors more than I respect regular actors. Because Broadway actors get one shot and they have to make it right. Well other actors can try and try again until they get it exactly how they want it. So go every Broadway performer that's ever been on stage you are appreciated. ❤
