id: a set of 5 photos from alice (twitter handle alicenyanya.)
the first image is a screenshot of alice's tweet. it reads: "These past few years have been difficult but I finally feel safe enough to speak out about my experience with Wilbur."
the second image is a graphic titled "MY EXPERIENCE WITH WILBUR" with two selfies of wilbur and alice together underneath. there are trigger warnings for emotional abuse, domestic abuse, alcohol, self harm and sexual assault.
the next three images are alice's account of the relationship. the first one reads: "Hello, I'm Alice, I dated Wilbur back in 2019 and I want to speak out about my experience.
I felt like I couldn't talk about this sooner because I was scared of his public influence and the potential backlash from fans but now after hearing Shelby's story, seeing the support she's been shown, and admiring her bravery I finally feel safe to break my silence on our relationship.
Back in 2019 at the beginning of the relationship, I was immediately shown a lot of affection very reminiscent of love-bombing. One of his close friends at the time warned me in confidence to "be careful" as if they had seen people get hurt in the past but I believed he was good inside. After a month the honeymoon period was over and it was like I was dating a completely different person. I was told to keep our relationship a secret, but was framed in a way that implied that it was for my safety, as if it was in my best interest to keep this a secret despite my own feelings. I believe that he enjoyed having control in the relationship."
the second image reads: "I would have to hide as he streamed, and sit silently in the corner of his room waiting for him to go offline. He would say condescending things to me about my interests and the type of content I created as if he just didn't take it - or me - seriously and would only be enthusiastic about his future plans with music and desire for fame. I never felt like he was encouraging towards me or any of my goals and in the last few months he made me feel extremely unloveable and unwanted. I had suffered with self harm tendencies in 2019, he ignored the marks on my body and only took interest in retelling his own life struggles. I also experienced the biting habit, which has already been elaborated on by Shelby.
After a while I noticed that it was always me putting the effort into the relationship so I decided one day to not be the one to message first, just to see what would happen and he never spoke to me again so the relationship dissolved."
the final image reads: "Skipping ahead to 2021, we had spoken briefly over an instagram DM about the relationship and meeting up for closure on how things went in 2019, I gave him a second chance and met up hoping to get some answers. We walked through densely populated areas of town where we got stopped multiple times by his fans. In hindsight this felt very intentional, almost as if it was to flaunt his influence and desirability to me. We went to a bar to talk and he then proceeded to get me very drunk. He got us an Uber back to his house, I ended up blacking out in his bed due to the alcohol but the last thing I remember was him nonconsensually removing my clothes. The next morning he proceeded to tell me that I must be a lesbian because I wasn't interested in him.
These past years have been extremely difficult to navigate because of this, I couldn't go online without seeing him everywhere and being adored as this soft boy who heroically respects women and mental health issues. I couldn't even go to conventions and enjoy my own hobbies without seeing people dressed up as him.
Shelby was right, Staying quiet wasn't bringing me any peace, it was only keeping his."

one thing that annoys me is people reading yangchen’s books and acting like she should be this bloodthirsty assassin.
the point of yangchen’s character isn’t that she revels in violence. it’s that she would forsake her cultural beliefs for the sake of the world if she saw it necessary. and she did.
and the air nomads punished her for it.
because they were still a living and thriving culture that could hold their own accountable.
while the rest of the world held her in high regard for her efforts, even in death, there were those from her culture that wouldn’t let her deeds go unpunished on the permanent record.
aang doesn’t have that.
he can do whatever he wants and the rest of the world wouldn’t care. no one will ever hold him accountable for his cultural missteps so he has to. that’s why it’s important to aang to hold himself to his beliefs. to keep his people and culture alive.
do you ever watch celebrities talk about being famous? how they know they have legions of fans that will praise them no matter what? and how terrifying that is to them? how important family is to them? because those are the people that keep them grounded. do you line what that feels like? to be inherently famous and have no one left in your family to keep you grounded? to be a human that’s only ever seen as a god?
no, you don’t. i don’t. but that is the life aang lives.
it’s why people who complain about the finale are annoying. it’s why people using yangchen to downplay his choice is also annoying. and it’s why people acting like yangchen had nothing to lose are extremely annoying. because her choices cost her a lot. and it hurt her. because she loved her people too.

listen. Raava is a lesbian.
I've been re-reading all the Avatar books, and the common thread is that once the Avatar enters the Avatar state, they start falling in love with a girl.
Kyoshi? Originally in love with a boy, Yun, when she's barely able to bend even her native element. Her first sign of being the Avatar is singing love poetry from her past life about a woman. Once she finally enters the Avatar state, she almost immediately starts thinking about how beautiful her longtime friend Rangi is.
Roku? Fell in love and got married to a woman after mastering all the elements and the Avatar state.
Aang? Wakes up from a 100 year coma brought on by the Avatar State (normally completely encasing someone in ice will just. kill them.) and he gets a heart-rending crush on the very first girl that he sees
Korra? Again like Kyoshi, when she's initially blocked in her bending and unable to control the Avatar State, she's in love with a guy. Once she masters the Avatar State, she starts getting into fights with Mako. The more she connects with Raava, the more they fight, until finally they break-up (the only Avatar breakup we are ever shown). Once Raava fully awakens within Korra in the season 4 finale, IMMEDIATELY after she asks out Asami on their spirit world date.
Kuruk? Constantly entering the Avatar State, and was a notorious lady's man (after his spirit was damaged fighting other spirits, the only thing that could "restore" his spirit was drinking and "the touch of warm bodies". Raava was like man we gotta recharge.)
What about Yangchen, you may ask? She hasn't fallen in love with any woman. Yangchen is the exception that proves the rule. Yangchen, despite her spirituality, is the most earthly attached Avatar. She chose humanity, over and over, and many spirits turned dark as a result of her actions. Even though she is connected to all of her past lives, not once does she bring up Raava or even mention a light spirit. She also mentions that maintaining the Avatar State is incredibly difficult for her, and that she has a low reserve of energy. Yangchen is the most connected to earthly attachments, the least connected to Raava, and is therefore able to resist the impending push of lesbianism.
Raava is a lesbian.

I want to take a second to show my love to Wilbur's ex-community (and I give him no credit) for how incredible the response has been. I've involuntarily always found myself distanced from the worst sides of fandom and communities so this doesn't mean much but I haven't seen any fan try to justify or defend Wilbur's actions, or deny Shubble's story. There were people in the beginning (including survivors) who felt it disrespectful to speculate and jump to conclusions, I respect that. But now that we're all on the same page, I am genuinely astounded by the solidarity. I don't think I've ever seen such cooperation at this scale over the condemnation of an abuser. I mean the Twitch chat moderation team unanimously deciding to quit, taking their work and even Twitch's moderation bot with them, preventing Wilbur from even going live. Every update account across multiple platforms shutting down. Fan blogs closing. People packing up and going home like it's just another 5pm. I love all of you. I mourn your loss and I praise your solidarity and support for Shubble and victims of abuse. How such a terrible person could've created a community full of such good people, I guess I'll never know. Godspeed.

got told at lunch "you feel like Tumblr Incarnate" and i had to tell them i've been here for 13 years and counting. i was here three years before dashcon happened. i saw the mishapocalypse. i survived the gigapause. i've been here longer than the shoelaces post. i've been here since it was hipsters versus fandom and i played both sides extensively by overdoing the sepia filters on everything and making my own flashing galaxy gif edits for my fandom posts. i'm every tumblr. it's all in me
