i never feel a bigger disconnect from other trans people than when some of them talk about deadnaming fictional characters like it's the same thing as deadnaming a real person. like some people thought it was 'offensive' or 'questionable' to have a scene in the star beast where rose gets deadnamed by some kids from her school and like idk i guess that my own experiences and life are Offensive and Questionable because that resonated v. much with me and my own experiences and was imo the peak of the trans stuff in that episode. or the genuinely horrific way people treated the devs of the red strings club for having a villain deadname a trans character when it was literally drawn from the experiences of one of the team. fictional trans people aren't real and if an author wants to make that character's deadname part of their life like many many trans people's deadnames are part of theirs, i think that's fine and good.

Mostly asking because it seems like my dash is about 50/50 split between cohost and bluesky rn, would kinda like to know what the actual numbers are. rb for sample size etc etc

tbh part of why it sucks so bad moving back to the internet is being constantly reminded of past fandoms of special interests i LOVE and thinking i should go back and make new friends. then remembering there are people who are 100000x more active who tell them to block me bc of a lie theyre spreading. its not fun!

When a trans woman says “do not call me dude or bro,” that is not an invitation to explain to her why you are going to call her that. Simply do not use the words. If you are told “do not misgender me,” it does not matter how much you explain how you aren’t misgendering her when you use a term that’s misgendering her. It does not matter if you don’t think you’re misgendering her by using a masculine term in a gender neutral way.

All you are telling her is that you do not care about her as a person and will misgender her as long as you feel like you are justified in doing so, which is the exact same logic used by transphobes in misgendering trans people. You cannot tell someone what their gender is. You cannot see their true gender, better than them, and decide what words you want to use.

When you say you are using bro or dude in a gender neutral way, you are not calming her down. You are telling her that she is to blame for the dysphoria caused by your misgendering.

All you need to do is not use the words she tells you not to use. Oftentimes it’s two words. All you need to do is not call one person two specific words. It’s tiring seeing people willing to die on this hill, defending their right to misgender trans women because they can’t let go of two words for a little bit.

to anyone seeing this- i'm going to be stepping away from social media entirely. my mental health is too fragile & taking occasional breaks only makes it worse. im leaving all my accs up as archives. the only one i'm still using is discord, but i wont be accepting any new friend reqs/joining servers. hopefully next time im online im in a better place. thanks for the memories
