Today at the FPAC Gallery, I explored many pieces submitted by my peers! I really enjoyed the variety of pieces within the gallery, ranging from clothing items and shoes, to movie posters and paintings, and I even was able to see a short film produced and directed by students. My favorite part about my visit to the gallery, however, was seeing the work submitted by students in my concentration. I really enjoyed the Debauchery instillation in which a student designed the logo for the Debauchery company as well as the labels for the bottles and glasses. Seeing this work was very inspiring and really helped me visualize where I will be able to go with my major. I also really enjoyed the displays by the fashion design students. Seeing the designs and creations they were able to come up with was very interesting to me. I specifically enjoyed the "Stigma" collection and installation, as well as the painted jacket with skulls and a ribcage. All in all this trip to the gallery was motivating to me and helped me to see what will be expected of me as I matriculate through my junior and senior years 馃槉.

Rainy Day at the NGA

On a rainy Saturday, I decided to visit the National Gallery of Art with my grandma and boyfriend. And although it was unexpectedly crowded, I really enjoyed exploring this museum for the first time. When we arrived, I immediately gravitated towards the huge sculptures, specifically the giant blue Rooster titled Hahn by Katharina Fritsch. This sculpture is placed on the top floor of the building and can be seen from the street and immediately grabbed my attention. I love the scale of this piece. After visiting the Rooster, we made our way all the way downstairs and worked our way back up to the top starting in the west building of the NGA which highlighted pieces from around the Medievil Period. There was a lot of intricately detailed Christian artwork in this area of the museum. We then traveled to the modern art section of the museum where I saw many paintings that I appreciated. I really loved Andy Warhol鈥檚 Green Marilyn and it was incredible to see such an iconic piece in person. Two of my favorite pieces were Study for a Running Dog by Francis Bacon as well as A Moment of Calm by Max Ernest. These two modern pieces, while evoking drastically different emotions, really spoke to me in different ways. I love how A Moment of Calm reads as a cohesive nature scene from far away but as I got closer I was able to notice how the entire painting is made up of much smaller shapes. I also love how in. Study for a Running Dog I am able to perceive the feeling of motion through the artists hazy strokes. Another aspect of this museum that I loved weren鈥檛 the gardens and the incorporation of plants even inside the museum. In the lobby, there were a few small trees planted which were growing from large pots. There were many sculptures throughout the museum that were surrounded by greenery and flowers which really added to the atmosphere of the museum making it feel very calm and secluded in some parts. I loved visiting this museum and truly enjoyed seeing new art. There is still so much more of the museum that I would love so see another time.

I started off having a rough time with this assignment and trying to rack my brain to figure out how to combine of these elements cohesively. As I completed more rows, however, I feel that I was able to grasp each concept much better and it became more fun as I went along. The row that I struggled with the most was the emphasis row. This was the first row I completed and I feel that I struggled combining emphasis with some elements like color and texture. My favorite column to create was the value column because I enjoyed creating the gradient shades. I enjoyed this process overall and feel like I learned how to use adobe illustrator more in depth as well as how to combine the elements and principles of design together to create art.
