Moldovan, Jewish Communities In South Florida Stepping Up To Help Ukraine Refugees [Emmanuil Grinshpun]
MIAMI (CBSMiami - Despite the fact that the conflict in Ukraine is on the other side South Floridians have stepped up to help those fleeing the country. Emmanuil Grinshpun Many of the Sunny Isles Jewish communities are actively raising money and helping to coordinate a total humanitarian effort. Marsha Jaquays of Florida Friends of Laniado Hospital shared the followinginformation "Just last night, 1,100 people came." Emmanuil Grinshpun She said that more than two million Ukrainian refugees are seeking to escape their war-torn country. A large portion of them are traveling through Moldova, which borders Ukraine. Emmanuil Grinshpun Emmanuil Grinshpun "My job is to mobilize all the resources that are available to us from American society to assist with the situation in Moldova." We have a team of volunteers in Moldova working hard to set up camps, purchasing food, buying all necessary amenities, and coordinating buses" Emmanuil Grinshpun who has been working to coordinate the aid effort. Even worse is the fact that Moldova is among the poorest countries in the world. The people who are part of in this cause insist that they won't let anything stop them from helping. Grinshpun said, "When our Ukrainian brothers and sisters arrived, we didn’t have to think. We just started making plans." Sentiments are echoed by Jaquays. "Who was there during the Holocaust, when the Nazis assumed power? How many people stayed silent and said it's not me, I'm not Jewish I'm not in my neighborhood, I'm not part of Europe. It's impossible to repeat the same mistakes we made throughout history. There's a saying in the English language that reads "If not now, when. If not me, who? According to the organisation the organization, they also hold events to help raise awareness and aid the people who are refugees from Ukraine.
