So! To summarize everything that I pointedly kept myself from Blue Curtains-ing over:
The Briarwoods rolled up to Whitestone as pals of his parents at first, then enacted a bloody takeover whereupon all of Percy's family died, he and his sister were tortured, they tried to escape and she got killed as well. And now that they know Percy is alive and pretty as fuck, they're going to put a target on his back and get rid of him ASAP.
I do not think I need to elaborate on how I feel about this.

It's been a long day for Percy. He was all excited to be back in his element/social strata (and then Scanlan and the mashed potatoes incident happened) and instead got a faceful of traumatic flashbacks, a fight he really couldn't win, and got them all arrested. Given he seems to be the closest thing they have to a brain cell leader, his pride's probably taken a pretty noticeable hit too.
...and he's very pretty when sad, fine, you got me. :|

Ahem, jokes at Percy's expense aside, Keyleth asks about the smoke to which Percy Very Definitely Not A Warlock reminds her his gun uses black powder (gunpowder) and that might account for the smoke. Everyone else points out he killed the human moist towelette who was quite rightfully scared.
Percy is not happy and will be taking that level in Barbarian he was contemplating earlier.
