Seven years ago today I responded to a post someone on this weird little app posted, she messaged me back and seven years later we still talk everyday!

What an interesting time it’s been - new jobs, promotions, overseas and local travel, a pandemic, several lockdowns, a lot of music, history and movies.

Alex is funny, smart and kind and I’m forever grateful she’s in my life.

Six years today

It was six years ago tonight that one Niall Horan was on the Graham Norton show. Someone I followed was very excited to watch and I was enjoying her comments and posts so much that I just had to send her an ask.

Here we are six years later and we’ve spoken every day since, she’s kept me company, made me laugh, told me off, shared her passions and sorrows and been right an alarming amount of times.

Happy six years!

Six years ago today I answered a post about writing by someone on the other side of the world. She messaged me back and here we are six years later.

There’s been a marriage, losses, new jobs, a global pandemic and a near miss meeting (stupid pandemic), but most of all there’s been talk - every day for those six years - fun, silliness, seriousness, music, movies, books and so many pictures of our favourite men. But most of all there’s been support and care.

@melissas173​  Truly and honestly, in the best way possible, I don’t even know what to say anymore. I just have a lot of questions. How has SIX YEARS flown by so fast. How do we never run out of things to talk about even though we talk all day and all night. How are you still such an amazing friend and person? How are you so funny and smart and talented and precious (it’s kinda rude frankly). How have you been so patient with me even though I am often the worst. And my last question is how has it all been so amazing! Like ALL THE TIME. I can’t keep up with how just fabulous you are. So that’s why I have to sometimes remind myself that you aren’t like totally perfect (I will tag the reason’s why if anyone is interested.) So I hope that your American birthday is just as good as your Australian one was and I love you so much you fabulous woman. MWAH!!

Battleship: A New Year’s Eve Story

Our flight out of London had been late, which is how Harry and I find ourselves practically running through Newark Liberty Airport, our carry-on bags banging against our backs. 

“I really need to buy a backpack for these frantic airport jogs,” I pant, my breaths hampered further by the required face masks. “Or maybe you shouldn’t book us events on two different continents for the same day.” 

His eyes crinkle as we arrive at the hired car, and I know he’s grinning behind the mask. “We get to celebrate the new year twice, love. What could be better than that?” 

“How about not being late to Harris’ party tonight?” 

Before we’re buckled in, the driver is steering through the holiday traffic. Flights had been canceled all over, so I knew we were lucky that ours had taken off as planned – even though it was over 90 minutes late. 

“Being late is fashionable,” Harry coaxes, trying to cajole me out of my bad mood. 

“I hate being late. It’s rude.” 

“Love, there’s nothing we could have done differently.” He takes my hand, rubbing his thumb over my palm gently. 

As usual, I melt. My boyfriend is nothing but accommodating to everyone, and he really had done his best to keep our holiday plans to a minimum. “You’re right, my darling,” I sigh, wishing we could remove our masks and share a kiss right then, but rules are rules, and hired cars in the US fall under federal guidelines. With a deep breath, I plan our future movements just as we enter Holland Tunnel – which is, of course, always backed up. “Okay, as soon as we get to the condo, we need to start getting dressed. Ryan left my dress hanging on the back of the bedroom closet door, and your suit should be there too. I’m going to have to forgo a fancy hairdo tonight. Perhaps a sleek high ponytail?” Smoothing my hand over my straight hair, I regret not curling it earlier – not that it would have survived the 8 hour flight from London.
