CNN Boston Marathon Error
CNN and Fox News spent about an hour discussing the news of an arrest after the Boston marathon bombing with various correspondents and experts before backing off when they received further information.
The FBI scolded several news outlets on Wednesday for mistakenly reporting that an arrest had been made in the Boston Marathon bombings, and warned that such unverified reporting could have “unintended consequences” for its investigation.
The FBI took the unusual step of issuing a statement correcting the media and asking that it show restraint in it's reporting and verify information "through appropriate official channels.
These false reports came from CNN and the Fox News Channel, this is not the only time that this happens with these companies both were the subject of widespread criticism last June after misreporting the result of the Supreme Court ruling on President Obama’s health care overhaul law.

Fox News reports of “no-go zones” in Europe
Fox News recently had multiple reports that in Birmingham, England, as well as areas in France, there are non-white areas that only allow Muslim’s and where Muslim law overpowers the local law. They issued multiple apologies for multiple news reports, most of which had to do with these so called “no-go zones.”

KTVU reports what most would say are obviously fake names as the names of the pilots involved in the crash of Asiana Flight 214.  Reports say these names were verified by National Transportation Safety Board.  After the story was released information came out from NTSB saying that an intern had answered the call and was acting outside of his responsibilities.  Even if one person had verified these names as being correct, you’d think it would be obvious enough to the news producers that something was wrong and double check for verification again before releasing this on air.  Instead, KTVU likely wanted to be the first to break the news and was embarrassed by the outcome.

Shattered Glass is a movie about Stephen Glass who was an actual writer for the New Republic, starting there in 1995. Glass would write stories where he would fabricate people, quotes, locations, etc. and would pass them off as fact. Glass went so far as to make fake emails, notes, voice mails, faxes, and even a website. It all started with an article Glass was assigned to write about a piece of Washington legislation. Glass felt it needed one quote to help spruce it up and decided to add it to the piece. It got such a good reaction from his peers that he decided to keep making false stories in order to receive that same attention. Glass enjoyed seeing the way peoples faces lit up when he would tell them his stories. Some of his stories even made it to other magazines including Rolling Stone, as well as allowed him to make television appearances. By creating fake notes Glass was able to get around the fact checkers at the magazine and get his stories published. Glass was eventually caught when an online version of Forbes magazine tried to do a follow up to one of Glass’ stories. When the online magazine tried to get in touch with the people in the story, they could not get a hold of any of them and could not confirm any of the facts. After that his editors became suspicious and began to unravel the lies that were Glass’ stories.
