the idea that restrooms, locker rooms, etc need to be single-sex spaces in order for women to be safe is patriarchy's way of signalling to men & boys that society doesn't expect them to behave themselves around women. it is directly antifeminist. it would be antifeminist even if trans people did not exist. a feminist society would demand that women should be safe in all spaces even when there are men there.

i just started watching fullmetal alchemist and i hate this little girl and her dog i hope they both get fused into one entity and then get mercy killed
#@prev#yeah just talked with someone about how it might actually have been mentioned later on that Shou was intended to be a candidate#i'd probably still think that was a post-hoc explanation but its a post-hoc explanation that really works#they expected Shou to be a candidate#but Scar kills him so they can't even force him#so they have to force Mustang later#we're basing all this on memory though so not sure if they actually say that outright but that could all be a canon explanation#or at least it would fit fine#but i'll say that my first series of critiques neglected the Ed and Al of it all#and how despite the arc not establishing much for the conflict and conspiracy plot going on#it is the first time Ed and Al get a real taste of feeling powerless and being shut down from thrones as prodigies#which is a first step on both of their main arcs of overcoming that powerlessness to make a difference#FMA spoilers

#funny post and all but idk if this is a controversial take#but this is my least favorite arc in FMA#not because its sad and im sad about it#i mean its effectiveness at making you sad and angry is the point#but i feel like it was a first draft arc for showing the darker aspects of alchemy that shouldn't have ended up in the final FMA#it establishes nothing permanent about the rest of the plot#the fact that alchemists have to prove their work every few years which was Shou's impetus never comes up again#Shou's apparent advanced chimarae work seems leagues behind the chimera characters later presumably because we wanted those characters#i also think demonstrating the darker side of state alchemists in an isolated incident belies the ties to genocide the others have#i THINK the 2003 anime did make Shou the primary chimera alchemist working for the government#but not brotherhood#also it's a bit cliche as a mystery where the friendly dad turns out to be the killer but maybe it only feels cliche years after FMA#this shouldn't have been just tags but it got away from me
