It's so fascinating how small habits can be developed from one easily forgotten interaction.

If I made a classic lit sideblog I might start being active on here again. Someone talk me out of it.

Today's the anniversary of the Capitol Crawl - on March 12th, 1990, the disability rights organization, ADAPT, which is still actively fighting for disability rights today (adapt.org) rallied around one thousand disabled people to climb the steps of the, at the time, inaccessible US Capitol Building, to protest the delayed signing of The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). These protests gained a lot of media attention and public support, which directly led to President George H.W. Bush signing the ADA in July, 1990.
Many people may know this story (it has luckily been shared across multiple sources and media formats, including the Netflix documentary, Crip Camp), but what many do not know is that approximately one hundred people were arrested during these protests, five of whom showed up to the Washington DC probation office ... and the probation office was inaccessible. You can't make this stuff up. In fact, here are sources:
A great article on the Capitol Crawl: https://issuu.com/faircountmedia/docs/ada25_complete_book/s/145488

I definitely believe listening to Dave Malloy's work religiously has changed my outlook on life. It's the "I will try to forgive myself for being absent in public and bored before stars" it's the "this song's not over just yet, stars and moons rise and set and rise again" it's the "oh you fool, you fool, it's all within yourself" it's the "my life will get better than this, my life will get worse than this, but right now is just right now" it's the "I am fragile and ephemeral, so love me while I'm here" it's the "what a wonder to me, such a wonder to me" it's seeing god under the keys of the piano, "god on stage in this little jazz club" and the "true god i see when im sitting at home, eating an apple, wondering what mecca must feel like, and suddenly i remember to taste, right there at home and not so many miles away and empty."
