đ©· it's been a while since I've been there so I'm more than happy that you knew exactly what I was talking about!
Sadly I hadn't seen Steve then either, so I'll try my luck again at the end of the year. Maybe you should do too đ
Under my Umbrella
Pairing: Steve Rogers x female Reader Â
Summary:Â On your vacation in Edinburgh you spot a lonely man sitting in the rain on a bench. You decide to give him a hot beverageÂ
Word Count:Â Â ~1.8k
Warnings:Â none I thinkÂ
A/N:Â This takes place before Infinity War and Endgame didnât happen as did certain things in IW because who knows me, knows I only write fluff. So Steve stays and gets his happy ending.Â
The sun had just been shining, but now the first drops of rain were landing on the fabric of your jacket. You struggled with the mechanism of your umbrella before you finally managed to open it and even more droplets had found their way onto your skin in the meantime. Â
When you were more secured under the protecting fabric, you continued walking towards the pavilion that was selling hot beverages. While you were waiting in line you spotted a man sitting on a bench. He was staring at the castle (as most of the people in Edinburgh were) and didnât seem bothered by the changed weather. His baseball cap protected his face from the rain, but that was about it. He wasnât even dressed like most of the tourists with rain jackets and walking boots.Â
âDonât mind him, heâs been here for a few days now. Heâs harmless,â the vendor ripped you out of your thoughts and you realized that it was your turn to order. You ordered two hot beverages and struggled to hold the hot containers and the umbrella at the same time. You managed to arrive at the bench the man sat at with only one shoulder slightly more wet.Â
âUm hi, I thought you might want something to drink to warm you up. Iâve got tea or hot chocolate if you want.â Blue eyes started into yours and you almost let the paper cups slip. Wet pieces of hair came out under the cap, his beard also had some droplets of water in it, but his blue eyes were what caught your attention. âDonât feel pressured, I just saw you sitting here in the rain and thought youâd might like something.âÂ
âThat was very thoughtful of you. Iâd like the hot chocolate if thatâs okay with you.â His voice was raspy as if he hadnât used it in a while.Â
âOf course, I offered, right?â You tried to hold out the right cup, but lost the grip on the umbrella you had with your arm.Â
âLet me,â he said and when he reached out to take the umbrella and hold it over your head he was very gentle.Â
âWould it be okay for me to sit here and drink my tea?â you asked and he nodded and told you to wait before you sat down. He took a t-shirt out of a backpack that you hadnât spotted under his legs and swiped the bench dry with it. You offered to share the umbrella and the man agreed under the premise that he would hold it.Â
It was quiet for a while until he said: âDo you know that over two million people visit the castle every year?âÂ
âWow, thatâs a lot. But I get it, I havenât seen something like this before. And the people here are so nice!âÂ
This was a start of a discussion for the two of you. He provided more facts about the city and you learned that he wasnât originally form Edinburgh too. You talked for almost an hour and the cups were empty when you had to leave.Â
âThank you for the hot chocolate and the companionship,â he said when you stood up and he got up with you â still holding the umbrella.Â
âYouâre welcome. Thank you for the nice conversation -â you stopped and noticed that you havenât gotten his name.Â
âMy name is Steve,â he provided.Â
âFarewell, Steve,â you said and took your umbrella. When you looked back you saw him sitting again in the rain and you werenât sure if he really had a small smile on his lips or if it was your imagination.Â
The next day you found yourself back in princess street garden. There were a few reasons for that: 1. The castle was like a magnet, as you could see it from almost every point in town. 2. The garden was such a beautiful place! It was so green and clean, you felt relaxed walking through it. And the 3. reason was something that you had to admit was Steve. You just hoped to see him again.Â
Was he living there? The vendor had said he had been there for days, but he hadn't smelled or anything. On the other hand he had a backpack with clothes in it. Maybe he was an unfortunate traveler that had been stranded here? Maybe he wasnât even there anymore and you had come for nothing. Well not nothing as you had clearly come for the view of the castle and the tea. Maybe youâd try the hot chocolate today as Steve had seemed to enjoy it.Â
And why on earth was your mind always going back to Steve? A guy you had talked to for not even an hour? And were your feet also carrying you faster when you saw the shade of a man with a baseball hat on a bench? You stopped by the pavilion again and ordered two hot chocolates this time.Â
âIâm trading a hot chocolate for a fun fact about the castle,â you said and held the cup in front of Steves face. This time you were sure there was a smile on his face as you saw it clearly.Â
âAbove a door in the royal palace are the initials MAH engraved. They did this when Mary, queen of the Scots, gave birth to King James IV.âÂ
âDefinitely worth a cup of hot chocolate,â you held out the cup and he took it and patted the seat next to him. This time you didnât have an excuse to sit as closely to him as it wasnât raining. You were in the middle of a sip when a touch on your leg startled you. You looked over to Steve who pointed a finger towards the grass where a small squirrel was, before it continued its way towards the two of you. It nibbled shortly on your shoelaces before it decided it wasnât a snack and went back to its next target.Â
âDid you see that?â you asked full of glee.Â
âI did!â he confirmed. It did seem like he just noticed that his hand was still slightly touching your leg and he removed it. âYou want to take a walk with me?â he asked and you agreed.Â
Visiting Steve was like an unspoken rule. Just like you never asked why he was always sitting on that bench. Time with him flew and one hour turned into two. He made you laugh, he was very attentive and, on the day, when it rained again, he held the umbrella so you wouldnât get wet while he had to duck his head.Â
âThis is my last day here. I should be packing, but I rather saw you for the last time.â You couldnât believe that you told him that. But there was nothing to lose, this was the last time you saw him.Â
âI think I have to stay a little longer, but at least Iâve got to know you.â You had reached the end of the park and looked at each. Steves skin was tinted red from the reflection of the umbrella and you had never seen someone more beautiful!Â
âIâll miss our daily dates,â you almost whispered.Â
âIâll miss you,â was Steves simple response. He bent forward and suddenly he pressed his lips against yours. It was gentle at first but then he put more pressure in it when you didnât pull away. His hand was touching your face softly and his finger stroked your cheek when he put some distance between your faces.Â
âStay safe, sunshineâÂ
A few years laterÂ
âI canât believe that we took the hard way. No one else here is out of breath!â you complained when you let yourself fall on the grass and watched the people walking the paved path while you and Steve had walked the hard way to the top of Arthurs seat to enjoy the view of Edinburgh.Â
âHave I told you that you look even more beautiful than the day I first saw you, sunshine?â Steve sat down so close to you, so he could put his arm behind you and you could lean against it.Â
âYou tell me that every day,â you laughed and put your head on his shoulder.Â
âItâs the truth! When I saw you struggling holding all three items in your hand and the rain falling down your umbrella, a small slip of sun came through and illuminated you. I donât call you sunshine for no reason.âÂ
âYou are a charmer. I canât believe weâve met that way!âÂ
It had been two days after your farewell when you saw the news about Captain America destroying a train station in Edinburgh. It only took a few seconds of the footage until you realized that the homeless/ stranded man you had seen daily was actually Captain America who had been on the run. Months later there had been a letter in your postbox. It had been from Steve who figured out where you lived and wanted to give you the option if you wanted to see him or not.Â
Of course you had wanted to see him and after a lot of dates, that didnât include a bench in the park, you moved in together and finally decided to visit the place again where it had all begun.Â
âIt is a nice story. But I think we could leave out the part where you thought I was homeless,â he laughed and pressed a kiss to your side of the head. He was very affectionate since the two of you began dating and you were loving it. When the two of you met again in person, he had told you that he had been searching for Wanda. And while he had be sitting in the park, he had heard about all the stuff people said about the castle, so he could provide the facts he told you in exchange for the hot chocolate.Â
âI will never leave out that part. It is one of the best parts.â it was your favorite part because it made everyone laugh.Â
âMy favorite part was meeting you,â he pulled you towards him until you both fell back onto the ground and kissed you. Never in your life would you have thought that youâd meet your future husband on your vacation. Not that Steve knew about your upcoming proposal. The only other person who knew was the vendor in princess street garden who would make sure that your bench wouldnât be occupied tomorrow. But for now you would enjoy being in Steves arm.Â

Of course, Bucky and Steve are each others biggest supporters!!! đđ
In Another Lifetime
Pairing: Steve x F Reader
Summary: SOULMATE AU - When you bought a box at a flea market you would have never guessed that it belonged to someone close to Captain America. And why was it that you suddenly knew so much about the things inside â and about Captain America?
Warnings: mentions of death, I canât come up with anything else, but please message me if I missed something
Word Count: ~4k
A/N: someone needs to give Bucky a #1 supporter of soulmates shirt, please
The tables left and right were ignored by you as you found yourself wandering straight towards a stand at the end of the row. You didnât know what it was, but you spotted a red box hidden under some old books. You bent down and placed the books safely down. Your fingers caressed the box lightly.
âItâs a pretty box, isnât it,â a voice pulled you out of your trance. You nodded; your voice wasnât ready to be heard yet. âDamn shame it is locked and we didnât want to ruin it and break it. Itâs yours for 30.â
â30 bucks for a box that might be ruined?â You pulled the box up and shook it lightly, but the soft sound that erupted from inside didnât gave away what laid inside.
âThere might be gold in it, you never know,â the guy tried his luck again. Seemed like he got rid of a lot of old things, but he himself looked like he might be in his early thirties.
âI doubt it, itâs too light for that. 15.â As he saw your interest, he pushed the price to 22. You paid him and took the box with you. You tried looking for other things but somehow your mind always came back to the item under your arm until you finally left and made your way home.
It took three weeks. Three weeks for the red box to be opened. In the meantime some new dust had settled on the golden imprinted rose on top of it. The lock had mocked you with the numbers in front of it. You tried googling how to break the lock, but you were too afraid to damage it. Next you had tried different combinations of numbers which frustrated you so much that you didnât even look at it for five days straight until you tried the next combination. No, it finally came to you when you laid in bed.
Unable to fall asleep without trying the numbers you got out of bed. You ignored the shoes standing next to it and walked quickly over the cold floor until your feet touched the carpet. The numbers moved easier than they did when you first purchased the box, having been tried so often. When you pulled the last row to a 4 you could almost hear a light noise. You pushed the button on the side and tried to open the lid and it finally opened.
On top laid a note which you picked up softly. The handwriting was neat and there was a drawing of a small flower drawn next to it.
Sweetheart, I hope you like it. Canât wait to see you again, S.
So, 22 Dollars for a box full of love letters then. Next came a notebook with a different handwriting inside. It looked like a journal, but you didnât want to read in it yet, so you put it aside as well. Then you spotted a piece of silver and pulled out a bracelet under a photograph. It didnât look like modern jewelry and it was in need of a good cleaning, but it was still beautiful. When you tried to place it around your wrist you noticed the clasp was broken. You still admired the stones for a while before you turned towards the photo. The one that was on top wasnât recognizable. On the second one were two guys smiling at the camera. One was blonde, the other brunette. Steve and Bucky, 1944 stood on the backside. There were a few more photos mostly of the blonde guy, Steve. And then you finally figured out that you were staring at Captain America and was reading a love letter that he wrote. Shame suddenly filled you and you pushed everything into the box and closed the lid.
Maybe you would have felt better if the person who wrote this wasnât alive anymore, but this felt like invading his privacy. The rest of the night you tried to figure out what to do until you conceived a plan and could fall asleep.
Your plan was good - in theory. But when you stood in front of the Avengers tower with your box in a bag and the guy at the reception had told you you should send your fan mail and gifts like everybody else you didnât know what to do.
âExcuse me,â you heard a voice and you stepped automatically to the side to let the man walk by. You mumbled a sorry, but when you looked at the person who was walking past you you recognized him.
âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry, I may need your help,â you said getting louder until the man finally stopped and turned towards you. âMr. Barnes, I have something for Mr. Rogers,â you started to rush, but he interrupted you.
âThere is a way for fan mail.â he said in an exhausted voice.
âNo, listen. Iâll just ask and if you say no I will drop it. I bought this box on a flea market and it was locked. And I somehow managed to open it and I think it belonged to someone who was dear to Steve, ah I mean Mr. Rogers and I thought.. I thought he might want it back so it wouldnât be somewhere where it doesnât belong.â While you were speaking you had pulled the box out of the bag. When he saw the box he looked at your face.
âYou bought it? It wasnât given to you by your grandma or something?â he asked confused.
âNope.â
âAnd your name is?â he asked and you offered it which caused his face to show confusion. âAre you busy right now or do you have a moment to spare?â
âNo, Iâm free now,â you answered which cause him to nod.
Suddenly he had a phone in his hand. âJerk, where are you right now? ⊠Might want to come to the cafeteria, there is someone and something I wanna show you. ... See you there.â
He accompanied you to the cafeteria in the second floor and asked if you wanted to something to drink which you denied. Both of you sat down at a table in an area where it wasnât as crowded and you waited in silence.
âHey punk, I donât understand why you couldnât come up,â Captain America said when he almost reached the table where you were sitting at. He stopped in his track and his voice got quieter at the end and he stared at you while you got lost in his eyes.
âYou see, this young lady bought something that she thinks might be dear to you,â Bucky finally said and he looked meaningful at the item on the table. It did took a few seconds for Steve to follow his gaze and while you were still looking at him you saw that he lost a lot of color. So you started to recount the story again. While you were talking the big man in front of you took a seat and he suddenly seemed exhausted.
âDid you look inside?â he asked once you stopped.
âYeah, but only a little bit. I figured out that it might be connected to you when I found the photos.â
âCan you open it and show me whatâs inside?â the powerful voice that scolded his friend was now quiet and soft.
You pushed the box over to table towards him. âItâs yours. I didnât want to pry and I didnât want anybody else to find it. It seems personal. If that had been my things I wouldnât want anybody else going through it.â His blue eyes looked at you and finally he opened slowly the box. He pulled out the bracelet and his big fingers went over the metal and stones.
âOh I remember when you bought it,â Bucky said once a caught a glance. âYou actually wanted to buy a different piece of jewelry, but I remember that she once told you she wouldnât marry the first guy that offered her a ring. And you were just so nervous when you gave it to her and she loved it so much. I think it might have been more because it came from you and she wore it, until,â Bucky went nostalgic and you were captured by the story. Although you knew that this story didnât have a happy end you really hoped it would.
âThe clasp is still broken,â Steveâs voice said. He shortly looked through the rest of the stuff, but closed the lid â the bracelet still in his hand.
âI should go,â you said as you suddenly felt that you were interrupting something.
âThank you, for bringing this.â
âYouâre welcome. I think Iâll find my way out. Have a nice day the two of you,â you pulled on your jacket and grabbed your bag and started to walk towards the exit.
âSteve, look what I found,â Bucky's voice ripped Steve from his daydream, the bracelet that found its way back to him in his hand. The brunette shoved a tablet into the other mans face, so that Steve couldnât avoid reading what was in front of him.
There are old tales about people who are sure they have met their loved ones in a different life. What sounds like wishful thinking might be actually true. Here are some examples:
âBuck, this is ridiculous. There it stands: Wishful thinking.â Steve pushed the tablet over the table as if it was offending him.
âBut how was she supposed to know the combination? She told me it came to her. And you canât tell me you havenât noticed the eyes! They were her eyes! Like I had to hold back so I wouldnât tell her all my secrets. I know she was your love, but she was one of my best friends too. And you canât tell me that you didnât feel like she was sitting in front of you too!â His eyes stared at the ones of his best friend until Steve couldnât take it anymore and blinked.
âI wish this was true. I miss her so much, even after all this years. But I looked her up, sheâs dead now. Has been for a while.â
âDidnât your brain process the words you just read? There stands,â his fingers tipped the now black screen forcefully, âthey meet in another life. Yours might not be over, but there is no way you can convince me that Iâll think itâs a coincidence that she found the box and knew the combination. And that she brings the box here because she felt like she was invading some privacy. That is such a her thing to do. I looked her up, this is her phone number. Call her, thereâs nothing you can lose here.â
âI wasnât so sure, if youâd come,â you were greeted when you stepped into the cafĂ© and spotted the person that had called you.
âOf course, I told you Iâd come on the phone, didnât I? I stick to my promises,â you said once you got rid of your jacket and put it on the stool next to you. He smirked at you when you sat down as if he was onto something you didnât know.
âI do have a favor to ask of you,â he said once your drink was placed in front of you.
âUm, okay?â was your slow reply. What could an Avenger need from you?
âI want you to read this,â he said and his big hand placed the journal that you had found inside the box all those weeks ago in front of you.
âWhy?â
âJust humor me,â he said and took a sip from the coffee that was so strong you could smell the bitterness.
âBut this is personally. It seems like it belongs to Steve,â you said not still convinced. Bucky Barnes just shrugged like he didnât care at all. âAnd what then? What should I do when Iâve read it.â
âYou give me a call and we talk about it.â
The meeting with Bucky was strange. After he gave you the journal you stayed and talked for a while and you couldnât help yourself but felt comfortable. You werenât nervous to sit there and the small smirk that appeared now and then on his face only put you off a little bit.
Nevertheless, you decided to open that journal when you were home. It found its way back to you that had to count for something, right?
Who would have guessed that Iâd meet the one person who was supposed to pick me up two years ago now? After everything Bucky had told me I couldnât wait to finally meet Steve. But he had never shown up, so Bucky had to entertain me and his date â who hadnât been amused about that and so it was only me and him getting ice cream then.
I haven't seen Bucky in almost two years so when he stood in front of me with that crocked smile, I couldnât help myself and ran into his arms. âYouâre back,â I had said relieved and took a step back to get a better look at him. I didnât say it in his face, but I could clearly see that the war had taken its toll on him.
âMaâam,â the tall blonde man next to Bucky had said after he had taken off his hat.
âThis is Steve, the guy who made the mistake to stand you up,â Bucky introduced him.
âIâm sorry for that,â Steve had said. I wasnât going to forgive him easily, but in the end I did. And tomorrow heâs going to take me out.
Bucky had told me all the good things Steve did and when he stood me up, he told me all the faults he had. I just had my third date with him and I can see both now. Steve admitted that it was good we hadnât met back then, that I wouldnât have liked him then. I asked him why and he said because he was smaller and sickly. I asked him if he had been a different person back then and when he said no, I told him he shouldnât say such bullshit. He looked stunned when I cursed and then he laughed. Sure, Steve is attractive, I wonât lie. But I saw a picture before he was given the serum and he was just as handsome back then. He is healthy now, which is the most important thing, but his smile stayed the same. Sometimes he is really shy, then he is really cheeky and ⊠I think I really like him. Not that I think Iâll tell him soon. I think Bucky has a hunch, but Iâll guess weâll see.
I donât think I like Steve. I think know that Iâm in love with him. The moment I realized? When he told me that they have to leave again soon. And when I looked in his eyes Iâm sure I saw my own emotions reflecting in them. I canât I donât know I donât want to be left behind! Itâs only been a few months, but Iâm so sure about Steve. Part of me loves that he is so loyal and part of me hates it! He promised heâll come back to me.
He asked me if I wanted to marry him. I told him no. Not because I donât love him, I do! And I know he loves me. He told me so himself, but I donât want to be married before he ships out again. I do want it when we both want it, not because he has to leave in 2 days. I told him he should come back to me and Iâll marry him then.
I miss him!
A package has arrived, Iâm afraid to open it
Itâs still sitting on my desk, staring at me. I think Iâll open it now.
It almost felt like the red box. And you somehow knew what was in the package. And how anxious she was to open it and the relief she felt when she finally opened it and it wasnât some notification that Steve wouldnât come back home to her. But how did you know that?
You decided to sleep before you would message Bucky. You suggested to meet at the coffee shop again, but Bucky said you were more than welcome to come to the tower.
This time there was no trouble going up as Bucky met you in the foyer and led you towards the elevator. You were surprised when you went up and up as you had expected to go to the cafeteria again. The door of the elevator opened and a nice voice told Mr. Barnes that he had reached his destination. You were too stunned to look around and followed Bucky into an open kitchen, but stopped once you spotted Steve in the kitchen. He had obviously waited for your arrival as he was sitting on a stool that was facing the way you were coming from.
âHey, do you want coffee?â he asked and you were only able to nod. You probably would have said yes to anything he offered.
âI hope its okay that Steve is here too.â You heard Bucky's voice â you had almost forgotten that he was also there.
âOf course, I mean you live here,â you rambled. âWhy do I know that the package was full of chocolate and a sketch?â you suddenly said when Steve pushed a mug in your direction. The two super soldiers were clearly startled.
âCome again?â Steve croaked.
âI read the journal and it stopped when she was about to open the package and there wasnât any clue about what was in it. So why do I know that it had chocolate bars in it? And a sketch of a woman in it? How do I know this? How do I know that she was so afraid to open it because she thought you were dead?â Tears were in your eyes as if you were feeling the emotions and there was a light sheen in Steveâs eyes too. âI just donât understand it. Iâve never seen any of the stuff before. Iâve never even heard about that there was someone special in your live, so how do I know that?â One tear managed to slip down your eye and a tissue was held in front of you. You thanked Bucky and dabbed your cheek.
âI donât know,â was Steveâs quiet reply. âDo you, uhm, know what was on that sketch?â
âIt must have been a sketch of her. And on the other side was a drawing of a ring.â
âOkay, Iâll just say what I think,â Bucky's voice interrupted the intense staring between Steve and you. âI think you are soulmates. Iâve read a lot about it the last weeks and there are people who believe that people who are so much in love that they find each other again in their next life. And I thought about it and I know this sounds strange, but... Iâve known her back then and you have so much in common with her. Itâs not just the eyes that are the exact same eyes, but your character. And I see how the two of you look at each other.â
âSoulmates?â Your voice showed your doubt.
âHeâs been bugging me with this for weeks now, and I never believed his words. But he might be on to something. I donât know how else you should know, these are things nobody else knew. And I do feel something.â
âOkay, let's just say that this is real and youâre right. I do want someone to want to be with me, not because I remind them of someone.â
âWell, then we get to know you,â Bucky decided and sat down next to you which was still in front of Steve. You were a bit confused, but it didnât take long to figure out why Bucky was so persistent. It was because Steve wasnât. Bucky kept the conversation rolling â every time it started to get silent, he brought up something new or asked you a question, told you something about their youths. And it worked because once Steve started to talk, he didnât stop and Bucky got quieter.
âIâm hungry, Iâll get us some food. Anything specific you want?â He suddenly asked and after telling him you werenât picky you didnât really notice when he left. You liked talking to Steve and soon you switched from the kitchen chairs towards a big couch where both of you kind of gravitated towards each other. When Bucky came back with the food, he gave you yours and told you heâd eat in his room.
It got late and you didnât notice the time until you had to switch on the light because it got so dark you couldnât see Steveâs smile anymore. You told him you had to go as you had to go to work in the morning and as the gentleman Steve was, he offered to walk you home.
âIâd really like to see you again,â you said when you stood in front of your apartment door.
âIâd like that too,â Steve said and for a short moment you thought he would kiss you, before his lips settled on your cheek. âIâll call you,â he said before he walked away.
Youâve heard that line a few times before. Sometimes it took days before you got your call, sometimes it never came. But now you got your call from an unknown number 15 minutes later. Usually you wouldnât have accepted it, but a slight simmer of hope told you it was Steve.
âHi, I couldnât wait. Are you free this Thursday evening? I have to leave on Friday, but I really want to see you before that,â he said and almost sounds out of breath.
One date became two then three and then you stopped counting. Suddenly you got flowers delivered with little notes that showed you he thought of you when he was out of town. Little things of him were now in your apartment and there was always an extra pair of comfortable pants when you came over.
âHey Buck, whereâs Steve?â you greeted him when you stepped onto their shared floor in the tower. The friendly voice started greeting you with your name now too.
âHeâs still in a meeting. I hope it doesnât take long, Steveâs supposed to cook tonight,â he said and looked up from the book he was reading.
âIâll change and take over for him,â you offered and Bucky looked a bit happier. It didnât take long for you to figure out that Bucky was an easy man to please. Most of the time he was happy when you offered him food.
But Steve was even easier to please. A big smile found its way on his face when he came home and found you in his kitchen, joking with Bucky while both of you were busy preparing food. Once he might have been jealous of his best friend, but he knew that he was just a friend for you. And he was glad that the two of you got along great and Bucky started to become more of the person he once was. But he knew there was no need for him to get jealous when you finally looked up and your face told him that he was your favorite person.
And he knew he should hurry with the new sketch of a ring. But he wanted it to be perfect, he wanted it to match you. And while he knew youâd be happy with anything, even no ring, he wanted only the best for you. And that would never change.

Being cat parents with Bucky is the dream! He would spoil you and the cat! Thank you so much, I'm happy you enjoyed it!!!
The Keychain
Pairing: Bucky x F Reader
Summary: When you asked your best friend Steve if Bucky would have liked you if you had known them before the war you didnât know that youâd find out. Because Bucky was still alive and Steve would bring his friend back home, where you would gave anything to make him feel welcome.
Warnings: swearing, someone touches reader without consent (briefly mentioned) and reader is violent afterwards, a bad joke about Bucky's fall from the train
Word Count: 6.5k
A/N: This is the 3rd rewrite of this story. I actually wanted it to be way differently and wanted it to follow Civil War, but... this came out instead and is completely different than it should have been and also: why didnât I include Alpine before this??
Steve was quiet next to you and then he did a double take when he saw what was sitting on your head. âI thought we didnât want to raise attention?â he asked.
âWe are at the Captain America exhibition, so I think Iâll blend in just fine with my cap,â you tipped the logo of your new purchase.
âWhere did you even get that?â Steve asked bewildered.
âThey sell Captain America merchandise here. I even got something else, but Iâll show you later. Where do we want to start?â Steve and you walked through the exhibition for a while. You stood extra long at the panel dedicated to Steveâs childhood friend and the tall blonde next to you looked sentimental. You grabbed his hand and squeezed it to show him he wasnât alone and it pulled him out of his thoughts.
âThis made it look like it was just a piece of cake. But I remember how it felt to not know if you find a place to sleep at night or if you have to sleep in the mud again. When you think youâll never get dry again,â he said finally when you walked past the part about WWII. You came into a movie room and when you saw Peggy Carter on the screen and Steve visible swallowing you announced that you had to go to the bathroom and would pick him up to give him some time.
Steve found you sitting on a stool and asked if you were ready to go. You nodded and you made your way to the exit. You walked to the subway and when you sat in the uncomfortable seats you opened your bag and pulled out a postcard and handed it to Steve. âItâs not like the original photo, but I thought you might like it.â He took the paper from your hand and was quiet for a while. âI canât even remember when this was taken,â he admitted and looked at a younger Steve and his smiling friend.
âDo you think Bucky would have liked me?â you asked suddenly and Steve laughed.
âWhat makes you ask that?â
âWell youâre my best friend and he was your best friend then, so I wonder if we would have gotten along if the three of us would have been at the same time,â you shrugged your shoulders.
âOh, I bet Bucky would have liked you a little bit too much. I bet I would have to threaten him every day and remind him that youâre my friend.â When he saw your questioning gaze he continued and nudged your side with his elbow. âBecause youâre pretty. Also since when am I your best friend? What about Nat?â
âDonât tell her,â you laughed. âBut Iâm glad you approved, because now I donât feel so weird to put this on my bag.â Two keychains were pulled out of your bag before you fastened them on it. They were little replicas of Steve and Bucky. âWell I have to show support to my best friend and also I couldnât pull them apart,â you mumbled the last part and Steve put one big arm around you and pulled you closer to him.
When Steve found out that Bucky was still alive and he finally found him and brought him around it was many years later. The bag where the keychains once hang was exchanged but you still kept the two tokens even though Steve was missing a foot and Bucky's nose was lost. They kind of became your good luck charm and you wouldnât get rid of them even though you had to endure much teasing from Sam.
âI just donât get why you donât have a falcon one,â he said once he saw the two figures swinging when you walked by his side.
âOh, donât be mad. Youâre still my background on the phone,â you said and pulled it out to prove him you didn't tell a lie.
âOh come on, how did you even get a picture of that?â You quickly pressed the phone against you and chuckled.
âYou know that there were security cameras? And you didnât think that I would forget the time you flew into a wall, right?â you smirked. You and Sam teased each other a lot but you knew he had your back just like you knew he had yours. âSo, do we have to get anything else?â you looked at the list in your hand and at the stuff in your cart.
âI think thatâs it. Still not sure if they appreciate this though,â Sam gave his input and took the cart from you and walked into the direction of the checkout.
âMaybe, but Steve said that Bucky is doing better. And Steve has been gone for a while and so maybe he doesnât want to join this little get together, but it shows that we welcome him with open arms,â you explained while following Sam.
You did spend a lot of work into preparing everything for Steve's and Bucky's arrival. Even if it didnât look like it but you prepared food which would be way too much, just so you had anything to do. You had grabbed drinks and made cupcakes. You didnât decorate anything as you didnât want to overwhelm the newest arrival. FRIDAY announced Steves arrival and you couldnât help yourself and stopped cleaning the dishes, wiped your hands on your shirt and made your way over to the entry.
You ran down the last stairs when you spotted the car and Steve getting out and ran into his arms. His arms closed around you and you inhaled the smell that you had missed for the last months. âI am so glad that you are back,â you mumbled into his chest and pressed him a little bit more against you. âAre you okay?â you asked when you stepped back and looked at him.
âIâm good,â he smiled at you and you nodded. You heard a car door closing and finally noticed the second person standing there. Steve introduced both of you with your names and you waved at him as you were still standing on the other side of the car and didnât want to overstep anything.
âItâs so good to finally meet you,â you smiled at him. âWe prepared a little get together, nothing fancy just some food and drinks. If you want to youâre very welcome to join us. If youâd prefer to eat on your own I can prepare a plate for you. But wait, let me just show you to your room.â
âCalm down,â Steve said and put an arm over your shoulder.
âSorry,â you squeaked.
âWhich room did Bucky get?â Steve asked and let go of you and waited for his old pal to join him.
âThe one next to you, I thought it would be the best option,â you answered.
âBut that,â Steve started but you interrupted him and told him you had already moved to the room next to Wanda.
âThe walls are still in my color, but I thought you wanted to decided what colors you want so I didnât want to paint it twice. We picked some furniture, but if you want to change anything or want to add anything donât hesitate to ask. And if I ever need to shut up donât hesitate to tell me. I tend to talk a lot when Iâm nervous.â
âThank you, I think Iâll like it just fine,â were the first words Bucky spoke to you. You gifted him another smile before the three of you entered the building.
You were about to tell them they could bring their stuff into their rooms before you would eat dinner, but you stopped in your track. âYouâve got to be kidding me?! Just once I want you to make a nice impression and you raid my food before they even arrived? It looks like a mess here, do you know how long I stood in the kitchen for this?â
Sam tried to look even remorseful and Nat mumbled a silent sorry, while Clint just stuffed his face and half of it landed on his shirt. You noticed that Wanda tried to put the food back together on the plates so it wouldnât look like a hoard of pigs had just walked through it. Tony just mumbled that it was delicious while he was munching on a piece of bread and Rhodey agreed. You took a deep breath before you turned around and saw Steve with a big smile on his face. âNice to see nothing has changed,â he grinned. âYou ready to meet the group, or do you want to eat in your room?â The last question was pointed at Bucky.
âFirst seeing the room, then dinner here?â he asked more of a question and Steve agreed and pulled him into the right direction. You tried to put together at least a plate for each of the guys.
âThis is a lot to take in,â Bucky said when it was just Steve and him on his way to his new quarters.
âI know, it does take a while to get used to it, but they mean really well. And sheâs just nervous meeting you. She had heard so much about you, I think she might be afraid that you wonât like her,â Steve said and showed Bucky his room. There was a bed and some more furniture. A desk, a stool, a TV on the wall, a bathroom connected to the room, a dresser that was already part of the room and he noticed a moving box in the corner of the room. Both of the super soldiers just put down their stuff before they made their way back to the others.
You didnât waste a second to press a plate in each of their hands and Tony took the time to introduce himself. âThere are a few rules here, nothing to drastic. The floors are all under video surveillance, the rooms where you stay in aren't. But FRIDAY, the AI that I had the pleasure to make, is still available there. Just ask her if you need anything. Kitchen is for everyone, so label your stuff if you really want to have it for yourself.â
âThatâs a lie, if you really want it keep it in your room. Iâm Wanda,â a young woman came towards Bucky and waved at him.
âWhat else? We have a gym that you can use any time, you can walk everywhere on the compound, but we ask you to stay here as we havenât really figured out the whole Winter Soldier thing. Shouldnât take long though,â Tony continued and Bucky's face showed discomfort.
âAlso if you want to bring someone over for the night make sure they really leave. That means you have to bring them to the gates and see them out. Very important,â you contributed and you heard a loud laugh behind you which caused your face to turn angry.
âI didnât think that was funny either,â Steve said with a sour expression.
âNone of us did,â Natasha added and introduced herself next to Bucky, who couldnât get a break to eat. âSam here had someone over for the night. And she said goodbye, left his room and wanted to go to Steves then.â She explained for Bucky.
You piped in. âBut she got to my room instead and let me tell you, I screamed so hard when some girl started to grope me in the middle of the night. Then she chimed in.â
âAt least she got to see Steve in his boxers, because he stormed inside the room to see if everything was okay. We had to escort her out of the compound,â Natasha continued.
âLetâs not forget about Clint who came running in butt naked,â Tony chimed in and a lot of groaning erupted in the room.
âHi, Iâm Clint and I like to sleep naked,â Clint waved from his place on the couch with a chicken leg in his hand.
âAnd this sounds like weâre in a self-help group,â you groaned. âSo welcome Bucky, Iâm so glad we made a very good first impression.â
But to everybody's surprise Bucky just chuckled and started eating. This reminded him of something that he couldnât really place just yet. But somehow the word home wandered through his mind. A woman trying to put her children in their place.
A few days had passed since then. You didnât see much of Bucky, which also meant you didnât see Steve as much as youâd like to. You missed having his room next to yours as you often talked in the evening before going to bed. You walked to your old room and knocked. It took a while until Bucky opened the door and revealed himself in some sweats and a hoodie.
âHey,â you smiled at him. âI think there might still be a box of me here.â You had finally put away all of your stuff when you noticed that your pictures were missing.
âYeah, itâs still in the corner. Sorry, I should have come around and brought it to you,â he said and rubbed the back of his neck. âIâll carry it to your room,â he offered and grabbed the box with ease before he followed you down the hall to another wing.
âWould you mind helping me putting these on?â you asked when you reached your room and opened the door.
âYeah, sure,â Bucky replied and couldnât help but to feel relieved that someone acted normal with him. Sure he had heard a lot about you with you being close friends with Steve, but there was still this voice inside his head that told him people would avoid him because of all the things he had done. It was no struggle at all with Bucky being taller than you to get the pictures where you wanted them. You noticed Bucky looking longer at the one of you and Steve on the day you went to the Captain America Exhibition.
âTonight is movie night, if you want to join us,â you offered after you stepped back from pushing the left side of the picture of the team a little bit up. âI donât actually know what weâre watching. We all put some suggestions in a bowl and pick one each time. Itâs nothing fancy, everyone is in sweats or pjâs and a little bit of banter. But some came back from a mission today and we do these kind of things when we donât want to be alone. Feel free to come.â
Bucky said he would think about it and said his goodbye before he left your room and walked back to his.
When he entered the movie room, he was baffled that such a thing even existed and a hand full of people were already there. There was actually a projector and a white wall in front of the big room. The walls were covered with heavy curtain and there were a few couches, seats and a love seat which looked big and inviting. Bucky walked towards it but stopped suddenly when you turned up in front of him. âYouâre here,â he picked up the happiness in your voice. âHereâs a fair warning: This seat is for cuddling. Thereâs an unspoken rule. Sit on this seat and someone will join you and cuddle with you. No explanation or anything needed. So be prepared.â With a last smile you walked back to Steve and Nat with whom youâve been talking to before. He actually doubted someone would join him, but he didnât want to risk it and sat down on a seat instead with his legs sprawled in front of him.
It didnât take long for the room to fill and he saw that you had taken a seat on the one he wanted to take first. He wondered if youâd have sit down if he had been there first. Instead he saw Natasha joining you and not long after that even Wanda. It seemed a bit crowded, but non of you seemed to mind. âOkay, hurry up. I have a mission tomorrow, I donât want to go to bed late,â he heard your voice.
âYou sound like an old woman,â Clint gave his input. âThis is normally something Steve would say.â
âYeah, but Steve isnât going on this mission. Just me and the rookies,â you answered and watched as Sam picked up a piece of paper from a glass bowl on the side of the room.
âMean Girls? Seriously? Who put this movie in there?â
âWhoop whoop, put it on, Sammy,â you hollored and Wanda snickered. Bucky thought the movie was dumb and a waste of time, but then he heard you laughing and he thought it wasnât so bad at all. Natasha had actually fallen asleep and you quickly pushed a pillow behind her back when you stood up to go to bed.
The next three months you were quite busy. You were mostly on missions with the rookies and they got on your nerves. On the rare days you were home you trained with Sam, you had a coffee date with Steve and Bucky even tagged along (you managed to get him out of the compound with the promise of you and Steve watching him), you even had a girls night with Natasha and Wanda. And Bucky missed you! It wasnât that the others were unfriendly or anything. They were nice, tried to include him as much as they could â or as much as he let them. But you made it kind of easier to let him in.
Bucky got his clearance two days ago and he couldnât wait for you to hear the news. He knew that youâd be happy for him and he couldnât wait to finally do something. But when you came back you had an aura around you that took him a while to figure out what it was. He had never seen you angry, thatâs why it took him so long. âWhat happened?â Steve asked and forgot to put the rest of his sandwich in his mouth when he saw you in distress. The attention of all four Avengers in the room was on you.
âI am suspended,â you huffed.
âWhat?â Natasha asked while Sam could only mutter an âYou?â
âDo you want to sit down?â Bucky asked and pointed at a stool next to him.
âNo, I donât want to sit down. I donât want to calm down, I am angry as fuck. And while I might havenât acted really professional I still think it was deserved.â
âDo you want to tell us what happened or do I need to put in a little research?â Natasha asked.
âI kicked a rookie in the face,â you sat and took a deep breath and then the adrenaline started to wear off. âOh gosh, I kicked a fucking rookie in the face.â
âDid he deserve it?â Natasha asked.
âWhy did you kick him in the face?â asked Steve.
âAre you okay?â was all Bucky could ask.
You shrugged your shoulders and finally took the place next to Bucky. âWe just finished the mission and waited for the trucks to pick us up. I was standing at the side and took a breather and then that asshole came up to me and told me I looked tense and that he had a few technics for me that would help me let loose,â you huffed loudly. âWho says shit like that? Anyway, he touched me and I told him if he wouldnât stop Iâd kick him in the face. Not my brightest moment, but I was still pumped from the mission and got a little mad.â
âWas it the kick I showed you?â Natasha was like a proud mother when you nodded. You told them that you were suspended until the hearing and that the rookie was still allowed to train, because you were his superior and the hearing would be in two days. You walked to your room and the others waited until they picked up a conversation.
âWeâre not letting him get away with this, are we?â Sam asked.
âThe friend side of me says of course not. But the captain side of me says that we could compromise her hearing.â Steves phone beeped just in that moment and he told his three friends that he was asked to supervise the training next day as you werenât allowed to. âMaybe I could bring a few friends to training. And I mean if Iâd be super busy at the other end of the gym I wouldnât see if someone would talk some sense into another person.â
âYeah, I donât think youâve showed me this gym. I think I should take a look at it,â Bucky said.
âAnd we havenât seen the progress in a while, right Nat. We should really take a look how far the guys and girls have come. We only need to get the name of the guy, but that shouldn't be a problem.â
âGreat, so tomorrow at 7. Oh and Bucky, donât use the metal arm,â Steve said, pushed himself from the table, nodded at his friends and made his way to your room to check if you were really okay.
Next day four Avengers were on a mission. Their own one. 6:45 they met at the entrance of the building where they lived to make their way over to the complex where the new recruits were training and living. It was rare these days that Steve came over for training. And even rarer that he had Sam and Nat with him. But when someone saw the glistening of Buckys hand they stopped in their tracks. Nobody knew that he was an Avenger now. Most of them hadnât seen him around or even knew that he was on the complex.
They walked into the gym while Steve walked into the middle of the room the others stayed back at the wall. âSee, I only helped us getting better training. Captain America hasnât even come to our training once before.â Steves super hearing could pick up on the whisper and he shared a look with Bucky who had also heard what that guy was saying.
âAsshole thinks he didnât do anything wrong, he just brags that he got better training now,â he mumbled to Sam and Nat. And then he heard something else. âOkay, change of plans. Nat, Iâll give you the honor. I would love nothing more that to show that piece of shit a lesson, but it seems like he isnât really fond of woman showing him how to fight. So it would be more humiliating when you bring him to the mat, right?â
âOh, it would be my honor,â the smile on the spys face was devious.
When you put on your formal clothes the next day you didnât know that your team got out of its way to get a message across. But you werenât so surprised when you saw a lot of them waiting for you. Steve would accompany you as your superior and Wanda, Natasha, Clint, Sam and Bucky would walk with you as moral support. You were quiet on your way and Sam pressed your shoulder before you walked into the room where usually briefings were held.
The hearing wasnât actually that long and you were one of the last people who left the room along with the blonde super soldier. âLetâs go to the living quarters,â the Captain said without giving away the outcome of the conversation that had just taken place in the room. There were too much people standing around and so they walked back while flanking you.
As soon as the door closed behind them Sam asked if you could finally share what had been discussed.
âWell, he has to leave for one. It was the second complaint against him and he wonât be a part of the team anymore. I also noticed that he had a new shiner in his face, coincidence?â you asked.
âWell, his defense is shit. So the loss isnât so big,â Natasha just shrugged.
âAnd I wonât work with the rookies for a while. They werenât as mad as I thought they would be and they told me I could have handled it a bit better and they had to make an example. Iâm not mad,â you shrugged, but in reality a burden was lifted from your shoulder. âSo, guess Iâm stuck with you for a while.â
âOh thatâs good, cause we got to keep our new teammate in check,â Steve said and you raised an eyebrow at him.
âOh you didnât hear the news? Cyborg is an avenger now,â Sam piped in.
âI told you to stop calling me that,â Bucky said with an eyeroll, but he didnât miss the smile that was slowly stretching on your face.
"Barnes, what is that?â Tonys question let you raise your head.
âWhat is what?â Bucky answered really confused and let his gaze follow where Tonys finger was pointing at. âOh no, I told you to stay outside,â Bucky grumbled once he spotted the white cat that seemed to be following him.
âWeâre not a,â Tony stopped and turned around when he heard the noise of a can that had been opened. He wasnât the only one listening closely as the ears of the cat were also high in the air. âOh no, donât you dare.â
âIt lives on the compound and it kind of follows me every time I see it,â Bucky tried to explain the animal that was now hiding behind a couch and tried to get a glimpse at whatever you were doing.
You pushed the plate that was now filled with tuna towards Bucky who looked at you with an confused expression. âFeed it,â you said simply.
âDoes anyone listen to me here? We donât adopt strays here,â Tony tried to reason with you.
âYou adopted us. And it isnât a stray, it already lived on the compound. It just wants a little bit of warmth and food,â you tried to give him the puppy eyes and Tony left â not without throwing his arms in the air and mumbling something along the lines of what he did to deserve all of that. But with Tony gone it didnât take much persuasion for the cat and before Bucky could place the plate on the floor the cat jumped up on the counter. It looked warily at the both of you before it decided it could sniff at the food and then it didnât take long until the cat inhaled the tuna. âWeâre going to keep it, right? If we can get it to use a litter box Tony canât say anything against it.â
You were already on the phone scrolling through pages of cat stuff. âWe need a name. And need to figure out if itâs a male or female. I already added cat food to the cart, we still need to decide what kind of cat beds we want,â you rambled and rambled while Bucky wasnât sure if he should watch the cat or you. âWeâre going to be the best cat parents ever. And I know the others will love it also,â your eyes sparkled and Bucky felt so lost in that moment without knowing why exactly.
It didnât take long for the cat to gain a fan club. Sure, there were also a few haters, but the fuzzy animal had most of them wrapped around its little paw. It turned out to be a boy and Bucky named him Alpine. Alpines favorite place to sleep was Buckyâs bed or yours and Samâs sock drawer for some weird reason, but Sam hated it. Which was just another plus in Bucky's opinion.
âWhy the long face?â Natasha asked when you walked into the jet for your next mission.
âI lost Bucky,â you said with a frown on your face. Natasha pointed behind you where Bucky stood to see you off. âNo, my good luck charm. Iâve had Bucky and Steve for years and now theres only Steve left with a lose keychain next to him. Feels like bad luck.â
âAnd like a dĂ©jĂ vu,â Nat mumbled and you slapped her arm. You walked back down the ramp where Bucky stood with Alpine on his arm.
âYou didnât say goodbye, sweetheart,â Bucky mumbled, his voice still heavy from sleep. You scratched Alpine under his chin and the cat started to purr.
âYou were both still asleep and I wonât be long. Two days tops, so I didnât want to wake you,â you replied. You had looked for Bucky, but when Friday told you he was still asleep you didnât want to wake him. Sleep was rare for him these days. Bucky had started calling you sweet pet names and you couldnât help the warm feeling that erupted in your stomach every time he called you one.
âBe careful,â he said and kissed your cheek. That was new!
âAnd you take care of our son,â you say, gave Alpine a last scratch before you walked back into the jet.
âWas that a kiss I spotted?â Natasha sing sang.
âAnd arenât you super annoying this morning? Can we just start this mission?â
âI was just surprised, thatâs all. Buckle up, fellow traveler.â
"For the last time, it is not the fault of some misplaced good luck charm,â Natasha grumbled.
âI didnât misplace it, it fell off. And why do our missions turn sour since then? Your shoulder, Clints black eye, my wrist,â you started your list.
âClint doesnât count, this idiot is full of injuries all the time. And we just need more practice and be more careful. You also need to practice more with Steves shield, then you wonât have the problem with the wrist anymore when you try to catch it. Steve will meet us in the training room so we can work on that,â Natasha said and pulled you along.
âGood morning, ladies,â you heard Bucky's voice, but when you looked up you stopped in your track. This was not the Bucky you knew. Your mouth opened and closed but no words came out of it.
âLooking good, Barnes,â Natasha nodded at him and pulled you further towards the gym.
âSee and that is the next tragedy. When did he cut his hair?â you finally said after a few more steps.
âYou like the long hair better?â she asked you and opened the door for you.
âYeah, no, I donât know. He just doesnât look like my Bucky now,â you shrugged and realized what you just had said. âDoesnât really make any sense, does it?â
âIt makes more sense than you know,â Natasha patted your arm and walked towards Steve.
Bucky didnât know if you liked the new haircut or not. You also didnât know the reason behind it and the surprise would take a few days. It was no secret that you were devasted that you lost one half of your keychains. So Steve and Bucky came up with a plan and for that Bucky needed his old haircut back. The both of them had managed to get their old outfits and posed a ridiculous long time in a cabin for some fancy 3D printer which would do a replica of him and Steve so they could make a keychain of it and give it to you.
But now Bucky was insecure. You hadnât commented on the haircut, but you had definitely noticed it. But was it a good reaction or a bad one?
He was sitting on the couch with his phone in his hand to read some news when he heard the noise that alerted him to people getting nearer. Alpine who was laying on his feet raised lazily his head, which meant his other favorite person was around. You let yourself fall next to his feet and the cat who walked over to your lap to get a few extra pets. Suddenly you chuckled.
âBuck, are you wearing pink socks?â You thought maybe there was an accident and someone else socks had found their way in his drawer.
âYeah, of course. Itâs Wednesday and on Wednesday we wear pink,â he said with an earnest expression and looked at you with a gaze that asked you if there was any problem. âI wear them every Wednesday.â This caused you to laugh. Not the I-make-fun-of-you-laugh, but a full belly laugh of glee. Who would have thought that Bucky Barnes, the ex Winter Soldier, would wear pink socks because you had made him watch a teen movie months ago.
âNever change, Buck,â you stood up, plopped Alpine on his old place and kissed Bucky's cheek before you walked to your room.
âDid I tell you about the day that she went with me to the Smithsonian?â Steve said when he sat down next the cat, who just wanted his peace and jumped from the couch to find a quiet place.
âNot sure, why?" Bucky replied and put his feet on the ground.
âShe asked me if you would have liked her. And I said probably too much and that I had to threaten you, because she was my pretty friend,â Bucky was about to say something when Steve put up his hand to show him he wasnât done talking. âBut you are also my friend and I think both of you are quite dumb, so hereâs my unwanted advice. Go for it. She likes you, you like her, you both smile so much around each other and you even own a cat together. Take her on a date.â Bucky wasnât so sure, what he should reply to that. âAnd I would add that part that Iâd beat you up if you treat her wrong, but I know she has a mean kick. Maybe Iâd hold you back,â Steve shrugged and turned on the TV as if he hadnât turned Bucky's world upside down just now.
âThere is a nice little place on the compound behind the forest with wildflowers. Itâs actually where I saw Alpine for the first time. Do you think she would like a picnic there?â Bucky said after a while.
âI think she would love that,â Steve answered honestly.
âOkay, Iâll ask her,â Bucky jumped up. If he didnât ask you now, he didnât know if he would do it again. He quickly walked over to your room and knocked on the door. You didnât open it and he tried again until he heard you yelling to wait. When you finally opened the door he knew why it took you so long. You clearly just came out of the shower and had rushed to get dressed. âWhereâs the fire?â you asked.
âThere is this nice place I want to take you. Itâs here on the compound actually and I wanted to ask if you wanted to go on a date there with me,â the words tumbled from Bucky's mouth and he wasnât sure if he had called it a date or not.
âYeah, Iâd like to go on a date with you. Will you pick me up? Tomorrow?â Bucky agreed and he couldnât wait for the next day.
He woke up early and walked towards the meadow to bring a blanket and a pillow so you wouldnât have to sit on the hard ground and a basket filled with food and drinks. He was giddy and he was actually too early, but it was no problem as you were also ready. When the two of you made your way outside you saw that Alpine accompany you.
The weather was nice, the sun was shining but it wasnât so hot. When you reached the destination, you were only a little bit surprised that Bucky had already prepared something. Alpine was chasing some mice and the white fur could be spotted between the wildflowers. âThis is nice,â you said when you put down the blanket and sat down. You refused to sit on the pillow if Bucky had to sit on the floor.
You noticed that Bucky sometimes wanted to put his hair behind his ear, only to grab the air because he didnât get used to the short hair and you had to ask. âWhy did you cut it?â
âFunny that you ask today, sweetheart. Actually, the reason arrived today and I have to admit that it was Steves idea and itâs not a present from me but from us.â He pulled a little box out of the basket.
You didnât waste any time to open it and your breath hitched. âWhat is this?â you asked and pulled out the keychain. You held a little Bucky and Steve in your hand, joined through the hand that Steve had put on Bucky's shoulder and it was only one keychain. There was no way that you would put this on your bag again, this was way too precious. âDid you even... is that your old uniform? This is so nice, thank you,â you grabbed his hand, full of emotion that you couldnât express.
âDo you know that this is the place where I saw Alpine for the first time?â Bucky said after you put your new keychain carefully back in the box.
âNo, I donât think I know this story. So, this is a special place then?â you asked when you laid back Bucky felt the warmth your body radiated when you were so close to him.
âIt is indeed,â he said and looked at you. As if the cat knew that he was part of the topic he came over and sniffed at the basket. You rolled over to your side and looked up at Bucky who watched the little feline until he closed the basket.
âIt could be also the place where we had our first kiss,â you said boldly and Bucky's gaze fell from the cat to you in a millisecond. âIf you want to, that is,â you added with a small smile on your lips. Lips that Bucky wanted to kiss, but he was a little bit shocked from your boldness. You were about to say something else when you couldnât because Bucky's lips were pressed against yours. Careful somehow and when you put your free hand on his neck and his arm settled around your waist.
âDefinitely a special place,â he said before he captured your lips again. After a while you parted and Bucky started talking again. âSo, this is the place where Alpine decided to be a part of our family and the place of our first kiss and maybe it could also become the place where you agreed to be my girlfriend?â
âI think that could be arranged, boyfriend,â you said and placed your head against his chest and he kissed your forehead.
âDonât ruin the moment,â you heard Bucky mumble and saw Alpine climbing his leg until he decided that the spot right between you and Bucky was special enough for a nap. You smiled and pressed yourself a little bit more against your now boyfriend and he sighed pleased. A nap didnât sound so bad right now.

The weather is almost like christmas time, so this read fit. It was cute and I loved that he still liked her after he lost his memory and that she bonded with Bucky in the meantime. It was such a cute read!
Summary: Thor's magic wreaks havoc on Steve's memory and your relationship!
Pairing: Steve Rogers x Avenger/Powered!reader
Word Count: 2,660
Warnings: mostly fluff, mild angst, memory loss, mistletoe!
A/N: @buckys-wintersoldier thanks for listening to me complain about this all day!
It had been an accident, but you were convinced that the innocent mistake was going to ruin your Christmas, and possibly the rest of your life. Thor had dropped by the compound to flex his muscles and herd some escaped convicts from Agsard who had sought refuge in midgard. Steve, Tony and Bucky had offered to help, letting the rest of the Avengers and you continue to work on your own tasks and pick up the slack. They made it back home without a scratch, but Thorâs exuberance and bluster lead to a small bolt of lightning breaking off from Mjölnirâs strike, hitting Steve unexpectedly in the face. He hadnât even had time to grab his shield from Buckyâs arm during the commotion.
Steve woke up flat on his back with you, Bucky and Thor leaning over him worriedly. You stroked his face gently as his eyes fluttered open, a wave of relief washing over you. It would definitely take more than a single bolt of lightning to defeat Captain America!
Steve groaned and looked around, his vision adjusting slowly to his surroundings. âWhat happened?â
He caught sight of Bucky on his left. âBuck?â
âHey bud, how you feeling?â Bucky asked him gently.
âLike someone punched me in the face.â He scrunched his eyes shut and shook his head from side to side to clear the fog from his brain.
âSteve?â You put a hand on his chest.
Steve sat up, looking at you with intrigue. âSorry, maâam. I hope I didnât startle you.â
âMaâam?â you asked, surprised by the way he spoke to you.
âDid you call an ambulance, Bucky?â Steve asked.
Bucky frowned at Steveâs reaction. âNo, pal. Y/N always like to dress like that!â He smirked at you.
âDo you two know each other?â he asked before looking straight ahead of him and seeing Thor in his full armor. His jaw dropped to the floor unceremoniously. âBucky, whatâs going on? Where are we?â
âSteve, itâs okay, weâre home. Weâre just outside the compound.â
âHome?â Steve asked again, looking around and not recognizing his surroundings. He looked around feeling like he was in a foreign land. This confusion was giving way to panic as he laid his eyes on the magnificent, glass-paned, Stark-designed building looming on the horizon. âWho are you people?â
âSteve, itâs me. Y/N.â You took one of his hands gently between both of yours.
It crushed your heart when he pulled it away slowly. âI- Iâm sorry. Have we met?â
âYou don't know who I am?â you asked with a slight tremble to your lip.Â
âI'm sorry, ma'am.â
âSteve,â Bucky put his vibranium hand on his best friend's shoulder, making Steve recoil slightly as the hard metal made contact with his shoulder.
You saw the look of hurt that flickered across Bucky's face.
âWhat is that?â he asked, finally taking in Bucky's appearance, his long hair, bearded face and prosthetic arm. âWhat happened to you, Buck? And⊠are you shorter than me?â
Steve looked down at himself, finally understanding that he was the one who was different.
âSteve, what do you think the date is?â Bucky asked and you knew he was thinking the same thing as you.
âAugust 19th. But I'm guessing it's not because it's snowing out here.â
âAnd the year?â you whispered, hoping he wouldn't confirm your fears.
â1942.â
There was a collective sigh of disappointment as everyone around you reacted to his words. Steve's memories only extended as far as the war, after Bucky had been drafted but before he had received his orders. His memories of the serum and Captain America had gone, including his memory of you.Â
âSteve, we should get you back inside. Figure out what's going on with you.â
âI feel fine, thank you.â
âBud, we should get you to the med bay. You got hit pretty hard and you seem to have forgotten a lot of things,â Bucky intervened, knowing that Steve wouldn't necessarily take advice from a stranger. He put his flesh hand on Steve's shoulder this time and led him away. Steve followed without so much of a backward glance at you.
âSorry kid, that was rough.â Tony's shoulder rubbed against yours. âDon't worry, I'm sure we'll figure out how to get his memories back. Come on!â He beckoned to you before flying back to the compound with only the lower half of his suit engaged.
Begrudgingly, you forced your feet to follow your friends back inside. You made your way to the infirmary and stood behind a glass screen watching Steve speaking to Bruce, your fingers subconsciously fiddling with a metal band on your left hand. It should be you standing there taking care of the love of your life, tending his needs. But instead you were hiding while all your friends surrounded him in an effort to jog his memory.
Over the next week in the lead up to Christmas, you went about your usual tasks and preparations for the holiday but it just didn't feel the same without Steve by your side. You missed how he would hover over you as you cooked or held your hand as you walked, you missed your morning runs and how he would push you to beat your own times, making you run further, faster and longer than you'd ever done before. He inspired you, he encouraged you, he loved you.
Now you felt lost without him. Despite his physical proximity, you could no longer feel the emotional intimacy you'd built. Every time you saw him, he was accompanied by a member of the team but he mostly sought the company of Bucky, feeling far more comfortable with him than anyone else. Surprisingly they had all respected your request to approach Steve on your own terms. You had explained that it was so that you didn't overwhelm him with information, but in reality you were afraid, terrified in fact that he might reject you.Â
What you hadn't noticed was how Steve's eyes were constantly on you when you were in a room together. It often made Bucky chuckle and roll his eyes but true to his word, he kept his mouth shut. In fact, Bucky had become a better friend to you in the last week than he ever had been before. He had started running with you in the morning so you wouldn't be out alone. And despite telling him you didn't need a babysitter, he insisted that Steve would never forgive him if anything happened to his best girl. You loved Bucky for his loyalty.
âDon't worry, you'll get him back,â he reassured you with a gentle nudge of his elbow.
âI hope so, Buck, I really do.â
It was Christmas Eve and you were feeling a little overwhelmed by the feelings of loss you'd been pushing away until now. You decided to slip away from the compound to avoid the pitying glances and worried questions from your closest friends. Grabbing your headphones, a waterproof jacket and your running shoes, you escaped to the solitude of the lake within the grounds of the compound.
You used your powers to push yourself, let out your emotions. A disney playlist was pounding against your ears and as you reached the edge of the frozen lake Let it Go started playing. Lost in a world of your own, you started singing along to the music, using your powers to swirl snow around you in an attempt to imitate Elsaâs theatrics from the movie. Unbeknownst to you, you had an audience. Steve and Bucky had also a similar idea of getting in a run and Bucky, who had seen you leave, had steered his friend in your direction.
They watched from a distance as you danced and sang out your emotions. Steve stood enraptured with wonder at your display, his jaw hung loosely until Bucky gently closed it for him.
âGo talk to her,â he smiled knowingly.
âWhat am I supposed to say, Buck? She already knows me.âÂ
âTrust me, pal, thatâs a good thing. Just go and be yourself.â Bucky shoved his best friend in your direction.
The momentum from Buckyâs gentle push got Steve walking over to you, his footsteps crunching in the snow. He was surprised that you didnât hear his footfalls but the music pounding in your ears had you lost to the world. That was until-
You reacted blindly to the hand on your shoulder, grabbing Steveâs hand and using your powers to flip him over onto his back on the dock.
âSteve!â you shrieked. âOh my gosh, are you alright?â
Steve chuckled. He was surprised not only by your reaction, but the fact that he wasnât winded by the force with which youâd slammed him to the ground.
âWhat have I told you about all the sneaking?â you pulled him up into a seated position.Â
âI don't remember,â Steve shrugged, trying to smile innocently as you sat down beside him and hung your feet off the dock.
A sudden laugh burst from your lips and in that moment Steve vowed that he would spend the rest of his life getting you to do it every single day. Unfortunately, your laugh ended with a sigh.
âI didn't mean to startle you,â he apologized.
âIt's okay, I'm just worried about your safety!â
âI think I'm safe. My body is different from what I remember.â
âHow does it feel?â you asked curiously. You'd asked Steve about his transformation before, but Steve had always brushed it off, that it had been his duty to change. Perhaps now you'd get a more truthful answer.
âDifferent⊠liberating.â He smiled at you shyly. âI used to have to worry about the cold weather, I couldn't run without the threat of dying. My reflexes aren't too shabby either.â
âIt must be pretty overwhelming, all these changes.â You didn't just mean his physical changes.
âYeah, it's not been easy,â he shuffled uncomfortably beside you. âFinding out that I did this to myself to fight in the war, that Bucky suffered so much,â Steve sighed, he always blamed himself for Bucky's experiences, that hadn't changed. âAnd don't get me started on the twenty-first century!âÂ
âThat one's a doozy, huh?â You nudged his shoulder with yours.Â
âCan I ask you something?â
âAlways.â
âWhy haven't you tried to help me remember my past?â
âI didn't want you to feel pressured to remember. It's been a lot for you.â
âThank you, I appreciate that. At least Christmas doesn't seem so different. Do you have anyone special to spend it with?â He nodded at the diamond studded ring on your finger.
He had noticed. Naturally he had, your Steve was a very observant man. You wondered if there was a chance of rekindling the romance between you, even if he didn't regain his memories. The thought saddened you. You'd built a strong foundation through your shared memories and experiences, it almost seemed unfair for you to have that advantage. But here he was, the head strong, stubborn and scrappy man you loved. He was no different to the man you'd grown to love even if he didn't know it.
Steve presented himself to the world as Captain America, someone who gave off an air of confidence and calm, but to you, he was Steve Rogers, a scrawny kid from Brooklyn who never backed away from a fight.
âYeah, I do. I'm hoping he gets back home in time for the holiday.â
Steve sighed. He was surprised that Bucky had encouraged him to pursue a woman who was already taken.
âBut I wouldn't mind your company till he comes home.â You batted your eyelids and spoke slightly flirtatiously, wondering if he would notice.
âI know that it's not really my business, but I was wondering if you could tell me about your fiancĂ©.â
Wow, Steve was a bit of a sucker for punishment. Maybe he liked you more than you thought.Â
âHe's kind and smart. Heâs brave⊠strong. But the thing I admire the most about him is how determined he is to do the right thing. He puts everyone before himself, so I consider it my duty to make sure someoneâs around to take care of him. Plus heâs incredibly handsome, so that doesn't hurt.â
Steve laughed, mesmerized by you but he could feel a sinking feeling inside him. Of course you wouldn't be interested in him.
âOh and he has this really cool superhero name. It's Captain America!â You winked at him with a smirk playing on your lips.
âBut-â
You watched Steve's face as the penny finally dropped.
âWhy didn't you say anything?â he asked.
âI thought it would be a bit too much information. Don't you think?â You paused, before adding. âAnd to be honest, I was a little scared.â
It took a few moments for you to get the courage to look up into Steve's face, hoping he wasn't completely repulsed by your admission.
âNo one else here has mentioned that you⊠we were engaged.â
âThey don't know. We were going to tell them but then this happened and well-â you shrugged. âPlus, you weren't planning to propose until Christmas Day, but someone-â you prodded him in the side. âSomeone got a little impatient.â
Steve blushed. âWell how could anyone wait to be married to someone as beautiful as you.â
It was your turn to blush. Which was followed by a shiver, your body trembled a little as a cold wind picked up around you. Chivalrous to a fault, Steve took off his own jacket and wrapped it around your shoulders. âWhy don't we go back inside?â
âYeah,â you puffed out the word along with a small cloud of mist. âIt feels like it's going to start snowing again.â
The two of you made your way back to the compound side by side in a comfortable silence. The backs of your hands brushing against each other but neither of you finding it in yourselves to reach out and take hold. Steve opened the door and held it open for you to enter first.
As soon as you both entered the threshold and shut out the cold, you looked up at Steve, smiling at the pink tinge on his cheeks and the sweet smile on his lips. You longed to feel his arms wrapped around you. Just as you were able to tear yourself away, Steve grabbed your wrist.
You turned back to him and noticed that he was pointing up at something. You followed the direction of his finger and a smile broke out on your face. Someone had tied a sprig of mistletoe from the ceiling.
âIs that-?â
âYeah.â He answered your unasked question.
âI guess that means I owe you a kiss.â
âFar be it from me to break age old traditions. We wouldn't want to risk bad luck, would we?â
You moved back to face Steve, but he seemed to have lost that courage to move further. âI- this isn't something I've done before.â
âThat's alright. I think we'll manage just fine.â
A warmth blossomed in Steveâs chest, sparks igniting as you leaned in close, lips brushing together, tentatively, for the first time. The smell of your strawberry scented conditioner made Steve dizzy with anticipation, butterflies dancing in his stomach.Â
Your warmth consumed him as you leaned up into the kiss, Steveâs lips impossibly soft against your own. The kiss was soft at first, chaste and innocent. His warm lips were soft and parted slightly giving permission for your tongue to enter his mouth. His nose nudged yours gently as you moaned quietly. Oh how you had missed him!
As he opened his eyes, he looked down at you as though he was seeing you for the first time. Every time Steve had imagined magic, this is exactly how he had pictured it. He knew everything about you, how could he have ever forgotten you?
âY/N,â he said softly. âI made it home for Christmas.â

I mean it's Steve.... thats just the way he is?? And homeless Steve made me laugh so much while plotting!
Edinburgh is beautiful and it would be even more beautiful with Steve there! (Also the part about being the only people out of breath because we were too dumb to find the right path might be based on a true event - who knows đ)

The Date
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x female ReaderÂ
Summary: You tried a dating app where you met with someone without having seen a picture before â and you had a date with one of the most beautiful man you had ever seenÂ
Word Count:Â 929Â
Warnings: none I thinkÂ
When you heard about the dating app with no pictures you thought you should try it out. You were tired about the inappropriate pics you were sent to, because you werenât on an app for hooking up â you wanted to find a relationship! The app you found didnât allow to send pictures, you could write some stuff on your profile and click on some likes and dislikes and what youâre searching for and then it gave you options.Â
Thatâs how you started to write with James. He was super nice, always checking in with you and very polite. Not demanding and from his responses it seemed like he wasnât just checking how your day was so he could check it of his list to be polite, but because he was actually interested. After some time another option opened for you to have a call to get to talk to each other.Â
His voice was so pleasant and he didnât give you some weird vibes that why you decided youâd meet each other. As you both had no clue what the other looked like (and you hadnât even described yourself or anything) you asked the restaurant if they could place a bouquet with a sunflower on the table to meet the other one. The chance of red roses were too high you had decided. Â
You were too early as you were nervous and took a seat at the table. The flowers gave you an option to look at and to not raise your eye every time the door opened. Until a voice saying your name made you look up and leave you stunned for a second until you realized you hadnât answered so far. Why this man didnât use an app with pictures was beyond you as he was beautiful! He could have had ladies at his feet if he wanted to and so much more. You thought this was a way for average people to meet, but this man...Â
âYeah, thatâs me. You must be James then?â you asked when he was still staring at you.Â
âI am, although it feels weird to hear it now. Friends call me Bucky,â he said and shrugged out of his coat.Â
âOh, are we friends then?â you asked and noticed how good his shirt was fitting him. Maybe you should have gotten a picture beforehand as a warning, but then you might have been too chicken to show up.Â
âI hope so. I mean you know a lot about me already, but itâs up to you. The offer stands. And while weâre still at it and I havenât sat down yet I think I must tell you that I have a prosthetic arm.âÂ
You didnât know what it was, but you became bold suddenly â the nerves were gone. âDoes the arm hinder you from sitting down?â A laugh left his mouth, he sat down and started to remove his leather gloves that were still on his hands. You saw shiny metal but decided to not comment on it. There were more important things to focus at just like some of the bluest eyes you have ever seen.Â
Somehow conversation flew easily as if you had known each other for a while and that this wasnât your first meeting. The food came and you were laughing about a story Bucky told you about his cat when suddenly the lights went off.Â
âWhat is happening?â you asked the same time when Bucky asked if you were okay. You soon found out that the whole street was without power and as you had already eaten and were just waiting for the dessert you decided to stay when the waiter brought so many candles the room was filled in a soft glow. Then dessert came and you noticed that Bucky relaxed again.Â
âDid you plan for this to happen? I mean this doesnât seem real! I didnât expect this,â you made a move with your hand towards him, âThere isnât an awkward pause and the conversation flows, the food is exceptional and now this? The whole room full of candlelight? Where is the catch?â you teased.Â
For the first time that night the soft smile left the handsome man's face. You were just teasing, but now a little bit concerned. And suddenly while you were enjoying your cake Bucky told you about his alias, who he was and that his reputation was exactly why he used an app without pictures. The part that made you really stay was when he looked at you as if you would leave any moment, now that he had shared something about his past.Â
âOkay, I donât think I need to know more for the moment. Tell me more about Alpine though,â you offered, and it took him a while, but then you were back where you left of. Bucky insisted on paying and you noticed that he left a huge tip for the waiter before you left the restaurant. Both of you had come by foot and he asked if he could walk you home or at least until you reached a corner where the streetlights were still on.Â
âCan I take your picture?â you asked him when you reached the entrance to your apartment. âSo I can safe it as my contact picture when you give me your number so we donât have to interact through the app anymore?âÂ
You got a picture of a smiling man, who kissed your cheek and promised to call you as soon as he was home so you could schedule a second date.Â

Thank you so much! This one is still so dear to my heart and I love when people think so too! Bucky deserves all the love!! đ
Your Touch
Pairing: Bucky x F Reader
Summary: Bucky hadnât been long at the compound when he noticed that others sought you out to calm down. So slowly he started too and had to figure out his feelings for you
Word Count: ~7.6k
Warnings: curses and swear words, injuries, blood loss, mentions of torture and panic attack (Bucky), sexual jokes (because it seems like I always have to make them)
A/N: This is an early birthday present for @jenniweaslee (because you weirdos donât see it as bad luck) and she kind of pushed me so I published it now. Also if my bf would read this I had to thank him because I made him sit here while I tried what the best position it would be for Reader and Bucky to sit through. This is my favorite marvel story Iâve written so far â because it seems like I always have to put my little Avengers family in there somehow. I hope you enjoy đ
Everyone in the compound knew that when they wanted to calm down to come to you, because you had a soothing aura. Wheater it was Natasha sitting between your legs while you braided her hair or the video games you played with Sam, because it reminded him of his sister. Or the cooking sessions with Wanda, where you tried out new recipes or you painted each other's nails, which you had to admit â you did a horrible job with.
But currently you sat in the middle of a big couch while watching a TV show with Steves head in your lap and a book in his hand while you were stroking his hair.
âSteve?â you heard someone behind you and didnât have to turn around to know that it was Bucky's voice that was calling out for his best friend.
âIn here, Buck,â Steve replied and put down his book. It didnât take long for Bucky to stand in front of the couch.
âWhat are you doing?â Bucky looked at the head on your lap a little bit confused. He hasnât been around for long and he didnât know that it was a common occurrence that other people were near you.
âJust reading, whatâs up?â he asked.
Bucky seemed nervous all of a sudden and said it was nothing and took a step backwards until you asked him if he wanted to join you. He hesitated for a moment, before he agreed and sat down stiffly next to you. He wondered why Steve hadnât told him the two of you had been so close. While you continued stroking Steves hair Bucky sat on the other side of the couch, almost pressed into the armrest.
The next time Bucky walked into the living space he was surprised to see Clint between your legs while you massaged his shoulders. âStop making those noises or Iâll stop!â you threatened and slapped the archer's arm.
âI canât help myself, you have magic fingers,â Clint replied while you laughed lightly.
âAm I interrupting?â Bucky asked when he stood next to the couch and you declined again. âNo, you donât,â you smiled at him. He sat down on the side of the couch just like the last time and when you told Clint you were finished you offered to knead his shoulders next. Bucky was taken of guard and told you politely that that was not necessary.
And suddenly Bucky noticed that he almost never caught you alone. You were always next to at least one of his teammates. He noticed a pattern. When Wanda was on a mission and came back you mostly were in the middle of the kitchen preparing food and she joined you without having to ask. If she came back late or early she would find you sitting there with face creams and stuff he didnât know a thing about, but Wanda joined you happily.
You brought Clint coffee often, because he was an addict. When he complained about a pain in his shoulder he didnât even have to ask, you always offered a massage whether it would be with words or with your body language.
Natasha was a bit more reserved at least. But she was often found near you, sitting by your legs if you sat on a couch, or sitting next to you when you had breakfast. He wasnât really sure, but he thought he had seen her slip into your room once.
He had to admit when he saw how affectionate Steve was towards you, he was a bit jealous. He often had his head in your lap when he was reading and you had your phone in the hand that wasnât stroking his hair. He had never seen Steve like this. True he hadnât even seen Steve in a lot of years â decades even. But still they grew up together and Steve was adamant that he could look after himself. So him being so affectionate with you must mean that the two of you were really close. And he was jealous. Jealous because he wanted to be touched like that. He wanted to be touched and not be feared.
As the weeks passed his urge became more. Every time you invited him to sit next to you and he slowly started to sit more comfortably which meant he sat closer to you. âCan I ask you something?â he asked one afternoon when he sat next to you on the couch while you were looking at your phone and it was just the two of you.
You were surprised that he asked you. âSure,â you answered and looked up from your phone.
âYou can say no if you want to or donât feel comfortable.â He said and scratched his arm.
âOkay,â you said slowly, hoping it would make him talk again.
âWell, donât feel pressured or...â
âBucky,â you interrupted him and put your hand on his metal arm. âI promise I will tell you if it makes me uncomfortable or anything. I promise, but you have to ask me first.â
âOkay, uhm, can you do the head thing with me?â he asked and when your head snapped towards his face instead of his arm and your eyes grew wide, he wondered if he overstepped a line.
âI think you have to explain it to me, because I am not sure that we are both talking about the same thing,â you finally said slowly after an awkward pause.
âThe thing you do with Ste- oh my god, did I just ask you to give me head?â he suddenly realized and you could swear you had never seen a person more flustered in your life.
âYou did,â you wheezed and let out a loud laugh after you were sure that this wasnât what he wanted to ask. âAnd just to be clear here, I donât give Steve head,â you pressed out between laughs.
âOh okay, good to know, I guess,â Bucky had started picking at invisible lint's on his pullover.
âSo what did you mean then?â you finally asked when you calmed down.
âUgh when you stroke Steves hair.â
And then it clicked. You told Bucky you had to use the bathroom first â because he had made you laugh so hard â and that you would be back soon and it was absolutely no problem and he better be sitting there when you came back. Because you had a feeling that Bucky would now disappear after this awkward situation.
When you came back a short while later Bucky still sat at the exact same place, his face still showed signs of redness. âOkay, so how do we do this?â he asked after he coughed slightly.
âHowever you want. There are only two rules, you tell me if something makes you uncomfortable and you want me to stop and I tell you the same, okay?â He nodded. âOkay, so you can lay your head in my lap if you want to,â you offered and Bucky did just that. But Bucky was large man and he didnât have enough space, so you had to rearrange yourself until you both were comfortable.
âIs this okay?â you asked when you started stroking his hair and Bucky hummed in confirmation. When Bucky heard footsteps of someone coming he jumped up and smoothed his hair while he took his usual place. Steve asked if you wanted to go out and grab something to eat and you agreed, while Bucky declined. You didnât comment on his weird behavior.
It didnât take long for you to notice that Bucky only sought you out when you were alone. And when you noticed that his mood wasnât so good, but you were always with someone you offered him if he would like to come over that evening to your room. He was a bit hesitant, but finally agreed.
You announced after dinner that you would retire to your room and it took Bucky over an hour to finally build the courage to knock on your door. You opened it and invited him inside. He took a moment to take everything in as the room was the complete opposite from his with little snippets of your life, photos which he wanted to take a look at and little trinkets spread over the place.
âI thought we may could watch a movie,â you said and pointed to your screen. âOr we could talk if you want to.â
âMovie is fine,â Bucky said grumpily, but he didnât even want to sound like that. It just came out that way.
âOkay, we could sit on my bed or I have a comfy seat over there which you can use if you are more comfortable with that.â But Bucky decided that the bed was fine and so you sat next to each other on a bedspread with pillows in your back until you started a movie. After a while you offered Bucky that he could lay his head on you again and it didnât take much convincing from your side until his head laid on your stomach and your hands combed his hair.
âThank you,â he suddenly said and you replied that he was welcome. You knew that Steve was touch starved and was still getting used to it sometimes. You couldnât imagine how much more difficult it must have been for Bucky who was tortured and probably didnât feel any normal human contact.
It became a regular thing for you and Bucky to watch a movie or show and to cuddle. He sometimes allowed you to stroke his back if he felt like it, but only if the two of you were alone. What you noticed with time was that Bucky was also cheeky. The others noticed the change in Bucky also, but didnât comment on it. That was until one day Sam was searching for you and asked Bucky if he had seen you. Bucky who was on his way to the kitchen and had just passed the couch where you and Steve laid answered with âYeah, she is giving Steve head on the couch.â
âWHAT?â Sam exclaimed and from the couch came choking noises as Steve was choking on some spit after he had heard the sentence from Bucky of all people, while you were laughing so hard that a tear was escaping your eye. Suddenly Sam's head turned up as he looked over the couch.
âShe was not,â Steve tried to get out while he was still busy trying to stop coughing.
âDude, you came looking?â was your reply. You could only hear the softening laughter from Bucky who continued his way to the kitchen.
âWho knew that metal man here had humor,â Sam mused while Steve still tried to tell him that there wasnât anything going on.
Steve and Bucky were on a mission together â just like old times, like they would say. But when they went to that mission you didnât know how true this would turn out.
âSteve, I donât want to go to Med Bay,â Bucky said when his best friend accompanied him from the jet.
âBuck, you are losing a ton of blood. You need someone to take a look at it,â Steve tried to reason with his friend and to stir him in the direction to the medical wing.
âI donât want to. I donât want to go there, I donât want doctors to touch me,â he said and the panic in his voice was noticeable. âOkay, okay, weâll see if Bruce can take a look at it. In our quarters and weâll try to get Y/N there, okay?â
âItâs late, she should sleep,â Bucky grumbled. But he didnât stop Steve from asking FRIDAY to ask for you. It took them a few minutes to reach Steves room as it was nearer than Bucky's. He lowered his friend on his bed and not soon after that you walked through the door. âWhat happened?â you asked.
âBucky was shot. Punk threw himself in front of me. Didnât want to go to the medical wing, I asked for Banner,â Steve said while he tried to keep the other super soldier upright.
âI see, bad memories in medical rooms, right?â You walked towards Bucky. âYou do know that you arenât Steves shield, right?â
âIf he would have been a little bit more careful, I wouldnât have to step in front of him,â Bucky countered.
âWhat's the emergency?â Bruce asked as soon as he stepped into the room and saw Bucky on the bed while Steve pressed a cloth against his back that was soaked with blood. âSo, I guess Med Bay is out of the question? What happened?â He quickly walked towards the bed and opened the bag he had brought. He soon saw the bullet would and that the bullet was still stuck there and that they had to get it out. You saw the panic in Bucky's eyes.
âOkay, hereâs what weâre gonna do,â you grabbed his face in your hands so he would look at you. âIâm going sit in your lap, you lean against me while Bruce will work on the injury. Steve is here, I am here, you are not alone, okay?â You waited before Bucky nodded and climbed into his lap, your legs around his body and it didnât take long for Bucky to nuzzle his head in your neck. Your smell helped him to keep calm. He wasnât sure what he should do with his hands so he put them on your hips.
Steve announced that he would grab some things and Bucky's head shot up. âWe need some more things, Iâll be back soon,â he promised before he left the room.
âYou put your shirt on backwards,â he mentioned when he saw the seams of your shirt on the outside.
âIt wasnât like I had much time to come in here. I grabbed the first thing I saw.â You wanted to shrug your shoulders but didnât as Bucky needed to be still. And then you went talking about a book you had read and what it was about and you kept talking as it was soothing for Bucky. You kept talking when Steve came back and when Bruce said he had patched him up.
âHey Steve,â you yawned, still in Bucky's lap. âCan I crash here tonight? Iâm so tired and my legs are cramped, I donât think Iâll manage the walk back.â Bucky was also tired from the blood loss and Steve didnât seem far better.
âSuit yourself,â Steve yawned and so it came that you crawled out of Buckyâs lap and the three of you crashed in Steves bed, not even bothering to grab the blankets or getting rid of dirty clothes. You couldnât even wish each other a good night, all three of you were out like a light.
You were actually the first to wake the next day and made your way out of the room without waking up the others. You quickly showered and changed and made your way to the kitchen to make some breakfast. While you were busy preparing the coffee machine Natasha entered the room as well. âWhat was up last night?â she asked while she squeezed your arm before she took some water from the fridge.
âBucky got shot on the mission, we had to get rid of the bullet.â
Natasha didnât say anything after that and helped you prepare some things for breakfast. She placed a bag in front of you before she went back to her room to get ready for training the recruits. This was Natashas way of saying thank you without saying it. She knew you liked the bath bombs from a store you know she hated, because let's be honest the store was overflooded with smells. But the bath bombs were so good and made your skin feel so smooth. So every once in a while, she made a trip and brought you back one.
After that night Bucky started touching you more often. You were sitting on the couch â his hand was touching yours, sometimes your fingers were intertwined. You were on your way to a mission â he made sure that he was sitting next to you and that your legs were touching each other. It wasnât only the touching, Bucky grew more comfortable around the others. Joining movie nights and he had a field day when a few of you played cards against humanity. You hadnât seen him laugh so openly before and you couldnât help to smile yourself when you saw how much more comfortable he seemed.
Bucky couldnât think of a day when you greeted him without a smile. So when he came into the kitchen and saw your head resting on the table he was confused. You didnât look up when he greeted you and just lazily raise your hand. Wanda sat next to you and caressed your arm. âWhatâs the matter,â Bucky asked concerned and took a seat next to you.
âNothing,â you mumbled, still not lifting your head.
âBullshit.â
You lifted your head, just a little bit. âNo, I mean it. Nothing happened or anything. Iâm just in a bad mood. Happens,â you tried to shrug your shoulder but it wasnât as effective as you were still laying on the table.
Bucky thought about it for a while until he decided to take you on the roof top to enjoy your coffee there with a little bit of sunshine. âDo you want to do anything special today?â he asked when you finished your coffee and it was the first time that you laid down on the bench you were currently occupying and put your head on Bucky's leg.
âDonât know, maybe a barbeque would be nice,â you seemed to brighten at the idea. âOh Bucky, do you think we can pull it off? A barbeque this evening here on the rooftop? With potato salad? Damn, that sounds so good right now.â
âIâm sure we can manage that. I can prepare everything with the others,â he started, but you interrupted him that you wanted to help. You had to explain to him that all the times you spent with the others wasnât only to help them. You also enjoyed the time you spent together.
And so it came that Steve, Bucky and Natasha went grocery shopping, while Wanda and you prepared some things in the kitchen and Clint started cleaning the grill, while mumbling he should have done it right afterwards when he used it the last time. When the grocery shopping trio came back and brought everything to you and stored the drinks in the fridge they made their way to the rooftop to prepare everything there.
Music was playing when you stepped on the rooftop on the first trip to bring the food. Sunshades were next to the table and chairs, Clint was already wearing his apron and when he saw you he walked towards you with a cup of coffee for you. âDid you really... Clint, youâre the only one I know who put a coffee maker next to a grill, but thank you, weirdo,â you laughed and took the mug from him.
When you finally all sat together and you laughed because Wanda had the salad all over her top instead of her mouth. âThank you for today,â you said and suddenly Steve grabbed your hand while Nat told you sheâd do it any time youâd ask and you could truly say that you were happy. That is until the door opened and Sam, Tony and Rhodey walked through.
âYouâre throwing a party without me?â Tony asked and grabbed a piece of bread from Steves plate.
âYou decided you had to go on this mission today, not our fault,â you replied and winked at him. The atmosphere after that turned completely. What had been a quiet afternoon with friends enjoying dinner turned into a party.
Your highlight was when Sam was trashed enough to start singing along to Push it from Salt ân Pepa and tried to get Bucky to sing along who had his arms crossed and looked at Sam as if he was about to strangle him. Before he could do so he disappeared inside and you tried to dance with Sam and put him out of your misery.
âDamn guy is missing out on some good 90s stuff,â Sam said and you had to laugh again.
âI think only people who lived it in the 90s will agree,â you said and bumped his hip with yours.
âItâs a shame, right? They are old as fuck and didnât even really live,â he said and you had to agree. When you finally needed a pause from Sam you walked over to the seats where your drink was sitting and you noticed Bucky then who held out a piece of clothing towards you. âI saw you shivering, itâs getting colder,â he said and when you took the item from him you noticed it was a pullover of him. You didnât waste a second to throw it on and snuggled into the warm piece of clothing.
âThank you, Bucky,â you said and kissed his cheek before you noticed that your drink was empty and you walked away to get a new one.
âUh, that was a smooth move,â Natasha said when she appeared next to him.
âWhat was?â he asked not taking his eyes from you.
âMarking your territory, giving her your sweatshirt.â
âShe was cold, I got her a sweatshirt. Thatâs it, Iâm not marking anything.â Bucky grumbled but still his eyes were fixed on you while you laughed with Clint and Rhodey in the corner.
âOkay,â the spy said and took a sip from her bottle. But Bucky had a feeling that she wanted to say something completely different.
Feelings are complicated and messy and sometimes hard to figure out. But if you are a soldier, who had his arm replaced with a metal one and was frozen for decades and was brainwashed one too many times it was even more horrible. He wouldnât dare to go as fast to say that he was an expert before he was drafted, but he was robbed of many things when he was captured by Hydra. So he wasn't sure what it was that he was feeling? Was it gratitude? Did he like you as more than a friend?
One thing he was sure of from before the war was that he was an awesome dancer, so when he saw Steve and you dancing in the middle of the room and you excusing yourself the whole time he was more than confused. âWhatâs going on?â he asked.
âOh, Steve tries to show her to dance, because she has to accompany Tony to the fundraiser,â Natasha filled him in. âItâs horrible to watch, isnât it?â
Bucky nodded and didnât waste a moment to make his way over to you. He tapped Steves shoulder. âDo you mind if I step in?â he asked his friend and Steve took a step away from you so Bucky could step in.
âGood luck,â Steve smirked and joined Natasha on the side.
âWe donât need luck, doll. You just need someone who can lead. How desperate are you when you have to ask Steve?â he chuckled.
âVery? I mean weâre dancing in sweatpants and in my defense I thought Steve would be a good dancer being from the 40âs.â That made Bucky laugh and he placed your arm on his metal one before he took your other hand in his flesh one. âStop thinking and just follow me lead,â he said before he started pushing in your direction. You had to excuse yourself a few times because you still stepped on his feet, but it went better than with Steve and after a while the two of you just floated through the room. âSee, doesnât took you long. I think I might even be able to teach you swing.â
âI think Iâm okay with knowing the basic steps. And I only agreed to accompany Tony because I am dumb and picked the shortest straw. Not really much of choice here,â you admitted. But it felt nice to dance with Bucky and the two of you danced for a while, not even noticing that Steve and Natasha werenât watching anymore. After a while you got closer to Bucky and put your hands around his neck while he placed his arms around your waist and it wasnât a real dance anymore more like swaying to the music.
âOh fuck you, Tony,â you stormed into the room with Tony hot on your heels.
âLook, I didnât know either. Iâm sorry, I really am. If it helps you, you werenât the only one,â he couldnât finish his sentence as you were interrupting him. It drew the attention of the other Avengers who appeared one after another.
âIF IT HELPS? No, it doesnât fucking help. I felt like a piece of meat up there and I couldnât even say no, because I would be that bitch that refuses to help the kids. So, no. It doesnât help and I am so mad,â this was the part where wetness gathered in your eyes and your voice started to tremble. âWhoever books this thing for us better reads everything or tells us everything, because I just,â you stopped and wiped angrily at some tears that had escaped your eyes.
âWhat happened?â Steve asked and Bucky made his way over to you and as soon as you noticed his presence you turned towards him and wrapped your arms around him.
Tony let out a loud sigh. âWell, there was a biding. You know where there is some stuff which someone bids on and the one with the highest bid gets the boat? It turned out that the two of us were also part of the auction and that people could bid on an evening with her and me. By the way she got a way higher price than me. Donât look at me like that, Cap. I didnât know either, we stood there like idiots.â
âYou want to tell me that someone paid money to go on a date with her?â Bucky grumbled.
âYeah, something like that. But before you go apeshit on me, and I want to repeat that I was also clueless here and I also have to attend such an evening, they told us that they planned beforehand where the meeting would happen and make sure that everything is looked after, so no romantic picnic at the beach bullshit or something like that. No touching, kissing or stuff like that, just a meal.â
âYou know what?â you said and pushed away from Bucky. âIâll deal with this tomorrow. Iâll just get rid of these shoes and clothes, go the bed and future me will see how she can get out of this mess. Good night,â you said and walked towards your room where you did exactly as you had said. Only that you laid awake on your bed and didnât fall asleep.
âWow, it had been a long time since Iâve seen her so mad,â Sam finally said.
âIâll see if I can get us out of this thing somehow,â Tony said loosened his tie before he also walked away.
âI canât believe that someone threw money at her to go on a date with her,â Bucky mumbled still bewildered.
âActually, they gave it to charity. And damn, it was a big sum, I doubt she will come out of that without looking like a bitch. Iâm doing a background check on that guy,â Natasha said who had already taken the time to look it up.
âDonât worry, Bucky. I bet she would go on a date with you without getting paid for it,â Sam said before he followed Natasha.
âWhat?â Bucky asked confused after a while and Steve patted his shoulder. âIf my opinion counts, I think Sam is right.â And Bucky was more confused than ever.
It turned out that there was no way for you to get out of that date. Natasha had made a background check and came up with nothing. The money was already paid and the host of the fundraiser had already contacted someone from the Avengers prep to get the whole thing rolling.
They had booked a whole restaurant just for your and Tonyâs âdateâ and you had to admit you were a bit relieved that you could drive there with him. You felt a little bit better and werenât as nervous and if that guy would give so much money for charity than you could at least sit in front of him for a few hours.
Bucky was still not convinced that you should go. He hadnât forgotten how you reacted that night and he had never seen you that way before. Also he couldnât shake that feeling that he didnât want you dining with another guy. Especially a guy he didnât know. He knocked on your door before you were supposed to leave. âHey, you alright?â he asked you after you let him in.
âYeah, donât worry. Iâll be fine,â you told him.
âIf you feel uncomfortable or if... you need to get out there, youâll call me, right? Steve and I will pull the Avengers card and get you out of there, say we have a mission.â
You couldnât help but smirk. âSounds like you put a lot of thought in it.â
âWe did, we have everything to pull you out of there. You just have to call,â he said without missing a beat.
âYouâre sweet, but Iâll be alright. I wonât need to call you.â You walked towards him and pulled him into a hug.
âBut you will call if you need to, right?â he asked when you were still hugging.
âI promise,â you replied and he hugged you a little bit harder before he let you go. âSo what are your plans for the night? I mean except waiting for a call from me that wonât come?â you tried to change the topic.
âOh, Sam, Steve and I will stay here and watch something I guess,â he said and you had to chuckle. When he asked what was so funny you told him that he always stayed in. He shrugged and accompanied you to the door where Tony was already waiting.
You greeted Tony and the bodyguards for the night before you turned around towards Bucky. âIâll be fine, Iâll call if I really need help. Try to enjoy your evening and please do me a favor and donât kill Sam, heâs fun to be around,â you got on your toes and kissed his cheek before you turned towards Tony and told him you were ready to go.
âMaybe Barnes should have gone as your bodyguard,â he said before he offered you his arms and you started walking outside.
âWait, that had been an option?â Bucky yelled after you and he could only hear your quiet laugh. He checked that his phone wasnât on silent and made his way back to the living quarters.
Bucky found it hard to admit, but Sam was a decent cook. âLook, are you going to stare at your phone the whole night?â Sam asked when he collected the dishes.
âProbably. I donât want to miss it if she calls if she needs help,â Bucky admitted.
âPal, we have super hearing, I donât think we would miss it. Also sheâs not helpless and they took the guards, Tony is there,â Steve tried to soothe him while he put the plates in the dishwater.
âAre you going to act this way every time she is on a date?â Sam asked.
âWhat other dates?â slipped Bucky's mouth. âLook, she was pretty upset when she knew she had to go and I just want to make sure that sheâs okay.â
âSo, if...â
âStop asking me this hypothetical questions! I donât know how I feel! I donât know how I am supposed to feel, so just stop it, okay?â Bucky huffed and left the room. They both found him sitting in the living room.
âIâm sorry, if I upset you,â Sam started while Steve said at the same time âLook, I know how you feel.â
âHow about we ask you some questions and figure it out together, huh?â Bucky was sure that this was Sam's support group voice, but when he added that he would stop anytime the soldier wanted to he couldnât help to agree.
âOkay, we start easy: Do you like Y/N?â Sam sat down on the table in front of Bucky, while Steve had taken a place beside him on the couch. The couch he usually shared with the woman in question.
âOf course.â
âGood. Do you miss her when she isnât around?â
The answer was immediately in his head. âYes.â
âDo you miss me, when I am not around?â
âNo.â
While Steve laughed and told them to get back at the topic, Sam complained that his answer came way too quickly.
âDo you want to kiss her?â
âIf the next question is if I want to kiss you, itâs no,â Bucky said and kicked the table a little bit.
âIt wasnât but you havenât answered the first question.â
Steve intervened. âWhy do you like her?â He asked instead.
âBecause I can be who I am with her. I can tell her if I donât want to talk about something or donât want to do something without feeling guilty. She just accepts it and itâs easy to be around her. She gets me somehow.â He stopped shortly. âRemember when I didnât want to go to Med Bay? She knew immediately why and knew how to calm me down. Itâs just... of course I want to kiss her, but Iâm not sure if itâs the right thing to do. Sheâs the first person who showed me affection â don't look at me like that, I donât want to kiss you either, Steve â and Iâm afraid that Iâm just projecting something on her, you know?â
âWell, I donât think thatâs it, but you must decide for yourself.â
âYou want a pointer from me?â Sam asked and ignored Bucky's no. âTake her out. Doesnât have to be a date. Just take her to the cafĂ© she likes, or to a walk around a park. Spend some time alone with her away from the rest of us. See how it goes, maybe it will help you figure out what you want. I mean there canât go anything wrong right? You spent some time with her â win, win.â
Bucky thought about it. Maybe Sam was right. âIâll think about it. And now move out of the way, youâre blocking the screen,â he said and kicked the table again.
âWhatever man, but weâre not seeing this shit,â Sam grabbed the remote and walked over to the chair on Steveâs side.
Sam and Steve were sleeping when Bucky heard the elevator and then your almost silent footsteps. You must have taken off your shoes already. âHey doll, you okay?â he asked silently.
âYeah, Iâm good. What are you watching?â you whispered and wanted to sit next to Bucky but Steve was taking the rest of the couch. Without a thought Bucky opened his arms and you took a place half on his lap and the armrest while your feet pushed under Steve legs. Bucky could have sworn he saw Steve open his eyes, but when he blinked they were closed again.
âSome stupid thing Sam turned on.â You nuzzled into his side and watched what was on the TV without one of you saying a word. You started to grow tired and your eyes must have closed a few times until you yawned and started to get up without waking Steve in the progress.
âIâll go to bed, I have training tomorrow with the recruits and Sam.â Bucky let go of you once you were steady on your own feet and watched you making your way over to Sam, waking him carefully. âHey Sam, might want to go to your bed?â
After you woke up Steve also you made your way to your own sleeping quarter and Bucky couldnât help but to notice that he was already missing you.
âI guess I got lucky,â he heard your voice the next morning when you were talking to Wanda. âFelt more like a business meeting, really. Hey Buck,â you smiled at the last part and greeted him happily. And if your smile didnât start his old heart beating faster.
âAnd he was easy on the eyes,â Wanda said when she saw a picture from the night before that the fundraiser had posted.
âNah he was okay, the best part was the beard. Oh, you remember when Steve sported the beard? You think we can convince him to grow it back?â
Wanda laughed and Bucky was confused. âYou into that?â he asked.
âIt was a sad, sad day for all of us when Steve decided to shave again.â You looked at him and squeezed your eyes. âHow do you look with a beard?â
Wanda laughed at the sudden change of the topic and reminded you that you had to go to your appointment. Maybe Bucky would try growing a beard, just to see if you would like it as much as you seemed to like Steves.
Bucky was on a week-long mission with Clint next. They didnât really have much options to get clean and so the first thing he did when he came back was going to his quarters and take a really long shower. When he was about to get the razor and wanted to shave his beard he remembered what you had said. It was just a stubble now, but maybe... It wouldnât hurt to try to let it grow, right?
The first person he saw after that had to be of course Sam. âMan, is this? Oh,â a grin, too much for Bucky's liking, was spread on his face, âyou heard how much she liked Steveâs beard, huh?â
âThere wasnât really time to shave it off,â Bucky said and Sam looked at Bucky's hair that was still wet and didnât comment on it.
âWhatever you say. The others arenât here, just Clint, Wanda, you and me. I think Wanda is cooking something.â
It was early morning when the others came back. Bucky hadnât slept that much and was actually on his way towards the gym when the grim looking superheroes came across him. He saw you holding Steves hand and how hard you were gripping it. âSchedule is cleared today for us,â he heard Tony who also had a sullen expression. âOh Barnes, youâre up. Can you take on the recruits with Sam for Steve and Natasha today?â
Bucky nodded and the others except for Steve and you walked past him. âAre you okay?â he asked the two in front of him.
âI donât think I want to be alone,â you mumbled and came into Bucky's arm while you still hold onto Steves hand.
âYou can come with me or we can check if Wanda is up?â Steve offered and after your input he let the two of you alone so he could find the witch for you.
âNow I regret agreeing to train the recruits,â Bucky mumbled into your hair.
âDonât be, Iâm just a baby.â
âYou are not a baby. As soon as Iâm finished Iâll come find you, okay?â Bucky stayed with you and stroked your back until he heard Wandas voice. Wanda looked like she just woke up and when you let go of Bucky Wanda threw an arm around you and took you with her.
The training took forever. Every time he looked at the clock he could have sworn it didnât move. He just wanted to make sure that you were okay. He wasnât usually here with the newbies, so he let Sam do his thing and he had just a little input every now and then when he wasnât busy staring at the clock. As soon as he could go he did just that. He made his way back to you without a second thought and knocked lightly when he came to your room. Wanda opened the door and slipped out. âSheâs sleeping now, will you gonna stay?â she asked after she closed the door silently.
Bucky nodded and walked into your room. He got rid of his shoes and made his way over to your bed, careful not to wake you up. He had stayed here quiet often, but he still didnât want to go under the blanket without you knowing it, so he settled down on top of it.
âNah, this isnât working,â he heard you mumbling and saw how you tried to lift the blanket but couldnât as he sat on it. He chuckled lightly before he got up again and crawled under it and you snuggled against him.
âIâm sorry, I didnât want to wake you,â he said quietly while you tried to find the right position.
âDonât be, try to get back to sleep too. You look like you didnât get much in the last time,â you mumbled into his chest. Shortly after that you were back to sleep and it took him a while, but finally he followed you.
âCan we stay like that for the rest of the day?â you asked when you were awake and noticed that Bucky also wasnât sleeping anymore.
âNo, canât do. Iâm taking you out,â he said and you almost jumped up to look at him.
âYou are taking me out? What happened and where is Bucky?â you asked. âAnd when did this happen?â You hand shot forward to touch his stubble.
âWell you wanted to know what I look like with a beard and so I thought we would find out. And now get up and ready, Iâll take you to your favorite coffee place.â Suddenly you were full of energy and grabbing things before you disappeared in your bathroom while Bucky made his way to his room to get changed of his sweats.
Steve almost invited himself when you announced that youâd grab coffee with Bucky, but when he saw Bucky's face he asked instead if you could bring him a coffee. âDonât count on it, punk,â Bucky said and put his arm around you.
You had to admit that you loved the afternoon you spent with Bucky. He took you to that little coffee shop with the self-made pies and cookies and the comfortable chairs. You felt more relaxed and you noticed that Bucky was also more comfortable. He was still wearing his gloves outside, but you could see that his shoulders were more relaxed.
After that Bucky took you for a walk. âThank you for taking me out,â you smiled at him and took a deep breath of the fresh air. âAre you okay? I mean you almost never leave the compound?â
âIâm always okay when Iâm with you, doll,â he said with a smirk and you slapped his chest.
âArenât you a charmer?â you laughed but then you took his gloved hand. The two of you stayed out longer than he had intended, but he enjoyed it. He didnât really know what it was, but he felt a little bit more free. Not that he hated living in the compound â he actually enjoyed it, because everybody looked out for each other in one way or another. And he knew now that he could count on the others, but not every step of him would be analyzed here.
âHow was the date?â Steve asked you the next day as he hadnât seen you again that evening when you went out with Bucky.
âIt wasnât a date, but it was good. Bucky seemed way more relaxed,â you offered him a piece of your fruit which he accepted.
âWhat makes you so sure that it wasnât a date?â Steve asked when he had swallowed a piece of his fruit.
âBecause Bucky isnât ready for that,â you said nonchalantly. âHeâs more open, even flirting, but I donât think heâs ready to date.â
Steve was quiet for a while. âSo if he was to ask you out,â he said and looked at you expectantly.
âIâd agree. Donât act like youâre shocked now, Captain.â
âIâm not, just wanted to hear it from you.â He grabbed another slice from you and grinned at you. Bucky had heard you and he was pretty sure that Steve knew that he could hear him. He decided that he didnât need to wait, he wanted to take you out. He didnât need more time, he had spent so much time with you and when you werenât near him he wished you were.
Before he could chicken out he decided he had to ask you now. He didnât even had a plan what he wanted to do or rather what you wanted to do, but he didnât waste any time to walk towards you. âCome with me on a date,â he asked almost out of breath.
You were shocked by Bucky's sudden appearance, so much that you dropped the apple you were about to peel, but Steve grabbed it before it could hit the floor while you and Bucky were busy staring into each other's eyes.
âAre you sure?â you asked and when Bucky nodded you breathed an okay. He bent forward and kissed your cheek, but ended up on the corner of your lips and both of you couldnât help to feel a bit warmer just now. âJust tell me when and where and Iâll be there, Buck.â

His biggest fear was that Sam would deliver the best date and you would fall for him. This lovely idiot didn't realise that EVERYONE was rooting for him!
Which Avenger are you destined to date?
Pairing: Bucky x F Reader
Summary: When Natasha found out about the Quiz which showed which Avenger you should date, the Avengers decided they all should take the test and go on these dates.
Word Count: ~3k
Warnings: one slightly sexual joke i think
A/N: I have actually no clue where this was coming from, but I had so much fun writing it (and I only started writing it yesterday)! To warn you itâs almost 2k before they even go to their date, but there is so much angst out there atm I just wanted the Avengers messing with each other. Oh and here is the test
It all began when you got together after one of Tonyâs parties and the usual suspects hang out, not ready to call it a night. âWhat are you doing?â you asked when you saw Nat on the phone.
âHeard some agent talking about a quiz which tells you which Avenger you should date, Iâm trying to find it,â she replied, her eyes not even leaving the screen.
You almost spat out the drink you held in your mouth. âThere is no such thing!â
âThere is!" Nat held her phone proudly in front of your face. Wanda took the phone and looked at it. When she started tapping on it you asked her if she really took the test right now. The witch nodded, but turned the phone every time you tried to see what answer she picked. âDo your own test,â she said when you almost crawled on her lap to take a look.
âWhat are you doing over there?â Sam asked when he saw you half on top of Wanda while Natasha was laughing at the two of you. âI just want to see which Avenger Wanda will date,â you answered and then you had to explain about the test.
âIâm not even finished, just take the test yourself if youâre that curious.â
You sat back down again, pulled out your phone and told her to send you that link. âSend it in the group chat, Iâm curious too,â Sam said.
âWait, wait, wait. This might be the alcohol speaking, but what about whoever we will get we have to take out on a date. On a real date, not some âweâre friends and getting coffeeâ date?â Tony suggested.
âWhat? What if I get another dude?â Rhodey spoke up.
âThen you have to suck it up,â you said and Natasha gave you a fist bump for your pun. âIâm in.â Everyone agreed and so Steve sacrificed a piece of his sketch book so you could note who will have to go on a date with whom.
âOh look, Barnes. I can clearly see that âI brood a lotâ is your answer so I wonât pick that one,â Sam said.
âIâm kinda mean â that could be any of us,â Natasha said and you shushed her. âI need to concentrate,â you said.
âWait, how do they know how we kiss?â Steve suddenly said and the other laughed while trying to see which answer would be which Avengers.
âDone,â Wanda said and scribbled Steves name next to hers.
âI guess I have to take Buck on a date then,â Steve said and looked over at his best friend's phone. âAnd you can write [Y/N] next to Bucky's name,â he added to Wanda when he saw his own face staring back at him and pressed the return button before anyone else could see that he had just lied.
âHas anyone picked me?â Clint asked when everything was written down. âOh Nat, you are missing. Please tell me you picked me.â He looked over to her but she just shook her head.
âSorry, but I picked the best option, which is myself. Write that down, I want a spa day for myself,â she said and while some said she should redo the test Clint announced that he would retake that quiz so long until he would get himself as a result.
While the others discussed their results Natasha asked you if you were excited for your date. âWhich one?â you asked. âIf I counted correctly, I have three, but Iâm really looking forward to plan one for Wanda.â You looked at the note in front of you:
Wanda -> Steve
Sam -> Y/N
Steve -> Bucky
Bucky -> Y/N
Rhodey -> Tony
Tony -> Sam
Y/N -> Wanda
Clint -> Tony
Nat -> Nat
âWell, I know exactly where Iâll take Y/N,â Sam said proudly and yelled your name so he could get your attention. âOur date will be on Friday next week, Iâll put it in your calendar,â he said and you nodded.
âWell, if you donât work fast there, Wilson. Canât wait,â you winked at him and laughed when Natasha said something in your ear. This wasnât lost on Bucky who watched the whole interaction like a hawk, before he turned towards the blonde super soldier.
âWhy did you lie?â he asked so quietly, but he knew Steve could hear him.
âLook, I already have to take you out and I think this might be a little push for you. You can finally take her out, this played right into your hands.â
âWell Sam also takes her out and obviously he already has a perfect date planned.â
âWell, then take the challenge and plan something better,â Steve said simply and nudged him with his elbow before he turned around and watched Clint who still tried to get himself on the quiz.
The group chat was a mess after that party but you couldnât deny that it was one of the best things that happened so far. Nat was actually one of the first who posted a photo of her date which was of her getting a massage, then one of her getting a pedicure, on a stool at her hair dresser and then she posted a photo of her food with the caption âas if my date knew exactly what I wantedâ.
You were sure that if it had been someone else they had to retake the quiz.
Steve took Bucky to a Baseball game and when the picture of these two hit the group chat you couldnât stop your heart from beating faster. And you just couldnât help yourself to make this picture your new background on your phone, because you couldnât remember a time when both of your friends looked so relaxed and smiled like that. It seemed like they did have a good time because after their photo from the game they sent one of Bucky in front of a big milkshake and got one of Steve with his mouth full of cake and his eyes closed as if he really enjoyed the food. You were sure you could get a lot of money for that photo.
On Tony and Sam's date night you couldnât help but let out a loud whistle when you saw Sam. âYou clean up nice,â you said when you passed him in your home clothes with snacks in your arms to join Bucky and Steve in the movie room.
âWhat can I say, Tony told me to dress to impress.â
âYou certainly did, have fun,â you kissed his cheek before you walked away.
âI have no clue what Tony and Sam are up to, but Sam is dressed to the nines,â you said before you threw the snacks at Steve and got your favorite blanked before you sat down between Steve and Bucky. Bucky lifted his arm so you could place your head on his chest and you put your feet in Steves lap, before you made grabby hands at Steve and started feeding Bucky and yourself with the snacks that Steve gave you.
You checked your phone after a while and saw that Sam wrote that the restaurant they were in was swarmed with paparazzi and you suggested to make it look like a date and they should at least hold hands. So when you got back a photo of two joined hands you couldnât help but laugh out loud. The best part was when you saw a photo of that moment in the news the next day.
âSo Sam, what should I wear tonight?â you asked him when he joined you for breakfast. Bucky had actually dreaded the day that you were going on a date with Sam.
âSomething comfortable, no heels, no big purse or stuff like that. Well scratch that no purse, Iâll pocket your phone for you. I promise you, youâll love it,â he said and Bucky rolled his eyes. He didnât even have any idea where he should take you for a date.
You raised your eyebrow but agreed to meet him at 6pm. Bucky missed you because it was after 6pm when he came back home. He asked the others if they had any idea where Sam was taking you, but they were also clueless. They just had to wait for the message in the group chat. When his phone made a notification sound he didnât waste any time to look at it, but it was only a message from Tony who complained that Clint took him Axe throwing and then invited him to a greasy pizza place.
Bucky knew that you would have a field day with the picture of Tony in a suit sitting in the small place where the wallpaper was already falling from the walls, but you hadnât replied so far. The date with Sam must be good if you didnât even check your phone. He still had no idea where he should take you.
What Bucky didnât know was that your phone wasnât even on you. Sam had taken it into his pocket, because he had taken you to a concert of your favorite band. Sam almost lost you in the crowd twice, but every time he saw you your smile was even bigger. He decided that this was the perfect moment for the photo for the group chat and took one while you looked at him with a bright smile on your face and sent it without context. Barnes better came up with a good date plan he thought before he put his phone back into his pockets.
Steve actually saw the picture before Bucky â which seemed like a miracle, because Bucky had stared at his phone the whole evening. âDo you have an idea where you will take her?â Steve asked his oldest friend carefully.
Bucky snapped out of his thoughts and wanted to tell him no when he saw an unread message on his phone. And when he opened it, he was sure his heart stopped beating for a second. But he soon noticed that you must have looked at Sam with that expression and his mood turned sour. âNo, I donât.â He started to get up, but Steve told him to stay. He called Wanda and Nat and soon the four of them sat together and planned a date that would hopefully sweep you up your feet.
It was after midnight when you came back from your date with Sam. Bucky was the only one still up waiting for you. âBucky,â you yelled happily when you saw him sitting on a chair with a book in his hand. He put the book on the table before you took a seat on his lap.
âDid you have fun today?â he chuckled.
âI did! Did you know that Sam would take me to see my favorite band? Iâm still so pumped, I think I canât go to sleep now.â
âWell, this old man here is beat and I think I wonât hear anything for at least two days. This must be how Barnes feels every day,â Sam said and wished you a good night while Bucky complained and you chuckled.
âIâm not keeping you from sleep, am I?â you asked and picked up the book to see what he was reading.
âNot at all, doll.â The two of you sat together for a while and you told him that you would take Wanda to a Czech Restaurant and a carriage ride afterwards and that Rhodey would take Tony to a Laser Tag place because it was obviously their thing or something like that. âSounds like a crappy date with what weâre doing for a living if you ask me,â you admitted.
âWell what would you enjoy?â he asked and stroked your back with his hand.
âOh no, I wonât tell you. If I remember correctly you have to take me out and I wonât give you any pointers. Which reminds me, when will you take me?â
âI have to check a few things first, but Iâll let you know in time,â he promised.
âGood, because Iâm looking forward to it,â you kissed his cheek before you wished him a good night and walked to your room.
âNo pressure at all,â mumbled Bucky to himself and picked up his book before he walked to his room.
It did take a while before you could go on a date, because either you or him were on a mission. It was the only date left as Wanda had taken Steve to an art class in the meantime and you even managed to surprise Clint with a date one afternoon and took him to a roast house with a coffee tasting afterwards. You couldnât help but feel bad for him that nobody had gotten him.
And when you finally would have your date with Bucky â which you couldnât help to be a little bit more excited about than the other ones, you were called on a mission that day. âI wonder if we ever get that date, Buck,â you said when you joined him on the way to the jet. Bucky couldnât help to wonder the same thing. It was liked the universe was against it.
It took them three weeks to finally go out. And Bucky had to rearrange his plans, so when the day finally came and he told you he would pick you up from your room, you greeted him with a big smile and told you should leave as soon as possible before something else came up.
He gave you a to-go cup with a coffee and you noticed a backpack on his shoulder, but you didnât comment on it. You thanked him and linked your arm with his while you made your way outside. Bucky had wanted to take you out with his bike, but there was too much that he had to take with him like helmets and jackets, so he settled for a car then. Maybe you could take a ride on his motorcycle another time â if he was lucky.
âSo, are you telling me where you are taking me?â you asked when you fastened your seatbelt and took a sip from your coffee and looked expectantly at Bucky who started the car.
âWe have to drive for a little while, are you okay with a little bit of music?â he asked instead and turned on the sound system and you were surprised that your favorite band was playing. Bucky saw the slight smile on your lips and smiled himself. You drove for almost two hours and then you saw a sign. âBucky, are you taking me to an animal park?â you asked excited.
When Bucky parked the car you wasted no time to get out of it. Bucky took his bag from the trunk and followed you, as you had almost reached the entrance. You had already ordered two tickets when he caught up and Bucky said you also wanted animal food and your eyes widened in surprise as you hadnât seen that you could feed the animals. While you were busy taking the food and the map Bucky paid for it.
âDo you want to put it inside?â he said and opened the backpack for you. You quickly put the food in there before you scanned the plan and Bucky asked you where you wanted to go first. You grabbed his hand with excitement and pulled him along. You spent hours in the park. Bucky had carried water for the two of you and had made some sandwiches that you ate on a bench while you watched some deer in the distance. âWe still have some food for the alpaca, right?â you asked when you took a sip of your water. You were mostly alone in the park as it was a week day and the park was a bit outside.
âYes, a full bag. Are you having fun?â Bucky asked when he watched you watching the animals.
âAre you kidding me? I have such a good day, this was an amazing idea, Buck!â You turned towards him and squeezed his hand before you jumped up, ready to visit the last unexplored place on your map. âCan you take a picture of me with the alpacas? We still need to send one to the others?â
To be honest Bucky had forgotten about the others and the reason why you had agreed to that date. He took a picture of you when you stood in the middle of the field and a brown alpaca ripped the bag out of your hand and another one nibbled on our jacket while a third pushed your hand so you would pet him. He decided he wouldnât post it in the group chat and would keep it to himself. Instead he took a photo of one alpaca whose hair hung in front of his eyes and he wrote that they had met Sam and sent that.
On your way back you turned down the music and put your hand on Bucky's leg. He tensed for a moment before he relaxed his muscles. âThank you so much for today, Buck. This was by far the best date, but I might be biased because I enjoyed your company the most.â Bucky's breath hitched in his throat when you said that. âIâm not ready to go home, how about you and I extend that date. I know a good place that makes killer milkshakes.â
âIâd like that,â Bucky admitted.
âGreat. And next time weâll do whatever you want to do.â
âNext time?â he asked baffled.
âYeah, I thought we could go on another date. Of course, only if you want to.â You said with a smirk, because you felt pretty confident.
Bucky took your hand to his mouth and kissed your knuckled. âOf course, I want to, doll,â he said in a raspy voice.
âGreat now that thatâs settled give me your phone so I can send myself the pictures of today and I can change my background to the picture of us. I canât believe you sent that picture of an alpaca to the group chat,â you chuckled and was busy with your phone while Bucky glanced at your relaxed form and thought himself that he was really lucky to get another date with you.

It's only because Bucky can't be on all dates at the same time - just wait! đ

I'm so happy you enjoyed this! I love Edinburgh and I'll be on vacation there those year so those inspired that. And if Steve doesn't deserve kindness (and isn't attracted to it) then who does??? đ

Deactivated? So you can't see how much I enjoyed this??? This was the fluff I needed and damn this made me smile so much and feel good đđ
[ FOR YOU ]
â PAIRING : Steve Rogers x (Female)Reader
â TAGS : Fluff, just a twinge of angst, and that's it.
â SUMMARY : Steve accidentally leaves his heart in your pocket.
â LENGTH : 902
â AUTHOR'S NOTE : UGH, and I am gone. And I never wanna be found. WHY NOT ME?! ...Okay, I'm good (not really.) đ Also I do not keep a taglist, so please do not ask đđŒ
You couldnât help barking out the most inelegant unladylike laugh in history when Steve stepped out of his room. He glared at you while you tried but failed to stifle your giggles, but your laugh is infectious; he couldnât muster up much of a scowl as his own lips began to twitch with amusement.
âHow do I look?â He asks, sighing with resignation. He lifts his arms and finally breaks out into a wide smile when you can hardly get a word out between wheezes. You twirl your finger in the air, silently asking him to spin for you, and he does just that.
Your hoodie is bursting at the seams trying to contain his super soldier form, and it stops just above his belly button, leaving his midriff totally bare above his low hanging sweatpants. Luckily for him, it zips up so the collar isnât choking the life out of him.
You didnât think heâd actually go through with it, wearing your sweater thatâs about six sizes too small on his next morning run, but heâd lost your silly little bet, and Steve was always a man of his word.
âYou look amazing,â you say when your laughter finally tapers out. Your sides feel like theyâre splitting, but itâs worth the pain as you quickly pull out your phone to take a snapshot of him before he runs out the door.
His cheeks tinge with pink, and youâre suddenly filled with the most intense feeling of longing. You want to run up and throw your arms around his waist, because nobodyâs ever done something like this just to make you laugh, to keep a promise that you wouldnât even care of he broke.
âIâll be back, sweetheart,â he promises, slipping in his earbuds and jogging out the doors. You watch him go, pushing down the ache in your chest at the unrequited love for your colleague that burns with the power of a thousand suns.
But you knew Steve didnât feel the same way. He still had that picture of Peggy in his compass that he carried with him at all times. His love for her spanned decades, and you werenât looking to compete with her ghost.
You spend the day busying yourself, trying to take your mind off Steve. You spar with Natasha, you cook with Wanda, you lounge around in Tonyâs lab until he gets fed up with your moping and tells you to get out because youâre bumming him out.
Hmph. Some friend he is.
When you head back to your room, you find that your stretched out sweater is lying on your bed, folded as neatly as possible. You smile when you find a note resting on top of it, Steveâs slightly messy scrawl as clear as day, promising to buy you a new one.
You pick it up, the fibres still warm, smelling both like the fresh autumn air and Steveâs cologne.
You frown as it feels a little heavier than itâs supposed to. You reach into one pocket, finding it empty. You have more luck with the second one though, pulling out Steveâs iPod.
Chuckling that he still has one of these, you sit down on the edge of your bed. Curious about what he listens to while he runs, you click one of the buttons and watch as the screen comes to life.
Interesting choices. Most of these arenât songs youâd listen when youâre trying to get your heart rate up for a workout; in fact, theyâre mostly love songs. Steve is a romantic; no surprise there.
You realize that youâre going through a playlist, so you head back to see what others heâs got, but you pause when you see the title of playlist you were just in.
Itâs your name.
You stare at it for a few moments longer before clicking back into the playlist, your heart hammering against your ribs as you read through song titles like I Wish You Were Mine, Iâm in Love with You, and Hold Me While You Wait.
You feel the urge to look up suddenly, breath catching when you see him in the doorway, glancing between you and his outdated iPod.
âHi,â you tell him. âHave a nice run?â
âYeah,â he says after an audible gulp. âI, uh⊠I forgot my iPod.â
You nod, but make no move to hand it over. He steps gingerly into your room, watching you like youâre a gazelle about to bolt if he gets too close.
A few careful deliberate steps later, heâs kneeling right in front of you. Neither of you speak, but his hand coming up to cradle your cheek is more than enough.
He smiles, a little hesitant, a little anxious, his eyes softening in a way that makes you want to cry. His thumb swipes over your cheekbone, so gentle you canât help but lean into his touch.
You fall against him, pulling him into the fiercest hug you can manage. Steve quickly reciprocates, his arm wrapping around your waist to hold you to his chest. His nose is in your hair, face tucked into the crook of your neck, his lips whispering words you thought youâd never get to hear.
His iPod lies forgotten next to you on the comforter, the screen lit up briefly with the word Perfect before it fades to black.
Itâs no picture in a compass.
But it will do.

Actually my dashboard is kind of empty. I'm not reading as much as I used to.
And let's be honest: when I saw someone leaving a comment like "this was lovely", "I felt that", "I liked that and that part" or just a clapping gif, a heart emoji - I knew someone enjoyed a fic so it made me want to read it too!
And that's just as a reader. Don't let me get started as a writer! Interactions are getting so low that I don't know if my writing isn't as it used to be, if you don't like it anymore or if you just don't want to interact. Whatever it is: I don't want to write anymore.
I just don't enjoy it anymore. Because you know why stories like Your Touch, The Ring and the old stories are so dear to me? Because of the interactions with you and talking about them with you made it special! Not me writing it. And I just miss that!
Hi, can I ask why you donât like serial likers? Sorry if youâve already answered something like this
thank you for asking!!
as a fanfic writer on tumblr, what i want from this platform â and what it's built for, really â is a sense of community. to publicly indulge in common interests like certain characters or tropes, something we might not have the space for in real life; or at least not to the same extent. it's about sharing this love and creativity, talking about it, bouncing off each other. the lack of an algorithm on tumblr's classic dashboard allows you to cater this site to you, personally, and i think that's always been one of its strongest points.
imagine, now, that carefully curated dashboard sitting empty. that's what happens if we, as users, don't reblog things. serial liking is a private activity, and it doesn't tell the creator anything. i know people still use their likes as bookmarks, but a lot of the time, that is sadly where their interaction ends. and the net of interconnection that reblogs weave grows a little weaker again.
i don't expect every person who reads my fics to leave a comment. i know it can be difficult sometimes. but i've seen so many people leave writing behind entirely because sending a story that was written with heart and passion out into the void and getting nothing back over and over again is tiring. it makes me sad and it makes me frustrated.
tumblr's been a sinking ship for the past 10+ years, but the orchestra is still playing. as long as it does, i want to encourage using its advantages. you can't maintain a community if no one talks to each other. please reblog things you enjoy.

Steve will be there when you at least expect it. He doesn't know it yet, but he's waiting there for you đ

âLet me,â he said and when he reached out to take the umbrella and hold it over your head he was very gentle.Â
âWould it be okay for me to sit here and drink my tea?â you asked and he nodded and told you to wait before you sat down. âWow, thatâs a lot.

The next day you found yourself back in princess street garden. There were a few reasons for that: 1. The castle was like a magnet, as you could see it from almost every point in town. 2. âIâm trading a hot chocolate for a fun fact about the castle,â you said and held the cup in front of Steves face.
Time with him flew and one hour turned into two. âThis is my last day here.
