Final animation with captions
One of the places where I am seeing my project being is a museum/exhibition environment. I think it would be a cool and innovative way of presenting historical objects and bringing back the interest is history and culture. It would also create a new space for creatives to be creative and experimental.
For that reason I have made a version of the animation with captions - the words from the poem making it more inclusive and the caption at the top telling you what you are seeing l (there can potentially be a few videos going into a row and even if you walk midway you would still know what you are seeing.

Experimenting more with 3D
I had loads of fun doing a 3D “process book”, I initially started doing this to put on my cover, but as it doesn’t reflect the content it would stay only as an experiment

Process of making the process book
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Was busy making the book so these are the only pictures that I took!
Had loads of fun making this process book. Despite having made so many books throughout the 3 year this is the first book (with actual content) that I’m making in signatures. Bookbinding itself I didn’t find hard as I have done it before, however trying to align things when folding and making the holes was tricky as the printer has slightly misaligned the pages. Overall I’m very happy with the final result!

Creating a VR filter
As an additional asset to my project, I have created a filter of the vase. By no means is it perfect, but I would like to further look into it and see how I can make it better. Nevertheless, we had loads of fun around the studio :)

Evaluation
Starting this unit I was having very high expectations and thought that the project should be very big and almost revolutionary. It took me a while to realise what I actually want to do and how I want to do it.
At the beginning of the project, I was talking about wanting to create an immersive experience, experiment with 3D objects, making some sort of installation, etc. Initially, I was trying to come up with a concept that would fit this and therefore I came up with the idea of exploring the connection between art and science, I spent a huge amount of time investigating my idea thoroughly. However, a pivotal part of the project was me starting to work on ISTD and simultaneously realising that I don't like the idea I was working on - I was struggling to come up with any sort of visuals, and knowing how much time I would spend on ISTD I couldn't afford being stuck.
I am glad I decided to completely change the idea and start from the beginning. From this point onwards I was working incredibly independently and considering the time I had left I am very proud of the final outcome. I managed to scheduel my time quite well.
Although at the beginning I was struggling quite a lot, I am glad that I subconsciously managed to create exactly what i wanted in the beginning. I did manage to learn quite a lot about 3D and actually make this one of the main points in the project, I also think I succeeded in creating a form of immersive experience, and had illustration as the medium of storytelling. I also get to try writing and collaborate with an Acting student, and try 3D printing. Overall I got to try loads of new suff and throughout the process I gained a lot of new skills.
Additionally to the animation, I would like to add physical pieces of the amphora, showing central moments of the story of Eros and Psyche giving authenticity and bringing the story to life. I have already started experimenting and I'm quite happy with the results.

Voice over recording (collaboration with Gabi)
Even before starting the animation I had recorded a trial version of the voice over in order to make sure there won’t be any parts that are too long or too short.
So once the animation was done I had to record the official audio which I did in a collaboration with my acting friend - Gabriela. At this point I realised the way I had tortured my actress - I was having her reading the poem quite fast and she didn’t have a lot of room for breathing. As at this point it was too late to change anything on the animation so I would be more considerate and thoughtful about it in future!

I am pretty much done with the animation. There are still some bits that I would like to improve and work on, however given that time left I am satisfied with what I have and will try to spent some time on the rendering in order to try to improve the quality of the animation

What I thought would be the last rendering.
However, after spending the day (literally took 8 hours and a half) this is what came on the rendered preview. I had to then re-render which changed my place with what to do next. In full honesty I think the vases together look quite could, however, that is a whole other project to be explored!

Animation Development
Animation before breakage is done! Im quite happy with it so far, only a few places where I would want it to be a little bit smoother; changing the material - illustrations, as I saw a few mistakes - the people next to the palace!!!! There are also some mistakes with the UV map, some paces are not aligned properly, and there are some holes - however I feel like this gives some authenticity to the amphora.

Animation Development
So far I have been rendering the videos separately, and adding them to premier pro. However, they were weird cuts and transitions were not working. Overall the video was not smooth, and its just annoying (especially with the audio), which I think is one of the essential parts. So I started rendering the video as a whole, which takes much more time and does not give a lot of room for mistakes, but I think its still worth it, as it gives smoothness an a nice flow to the animation.
