this was several weeks ago now but it just re-entered my brain and I'm angry about it so
i came across this post that was something about astrology and people were going crazy arguing in the comments about it, and there was this one thread where somebody was talking about how the planets might have a gravitational effect on you depending on where they were and how close they were to you at the time of your birth
which to start with is already stupid. first off, obviously the effect of gravity is negligible when something is that far away. i did the math and the force is somewhere around the order of 10^-7 N, even for venus or mars at their closest orbit. so, in layman's terms, Not Relevant
but then i got further down the thread and there was this one person (who went completely uncontested, btw) who said, and i quote, "a person standing 1 meter away has a stronger gravitational pull on you than the moon, let alone mercury"... as a way to combat the people saying that the gravitational force from the planets and the stars (potentially) validated astrology. and I'm sorry but. what????
it's been a while since i did the math (and i don't really feel like pulling my calculator out right now) but I'm pretty sure the force of gravity from the moon is about 8,000 times stronger than that of another person standing a meter away from you (given a 60kg person. not that it really matters)
anyway i think my point is that we should ban people from trying to regurgitate half-remembered and even less understood scientific facts in order to prove a point that it wouldn't even really prove in the first place

If you (like me) want 3rd party candidates to be an actual viable option in USA elections so you no longer have to vote for Democrats OR Republicans as your first and only choice, then what we need is Ranked Choice Voting. In order for that to happen, we as voters have to do two things:
Vote Democrat this fall, because Republicans fucking hate Ranked Choice Voting, and in several Republican-run states they have outlawed it. So if you want it, you have to keep Democrats in power in your state.
Lobby for and then vote for Ranked-choice voting in your state!Many American states have already adopted Ranked Choice voting and several more are set to do so in 2024. The ball is literally already rolling on this, we just need YOU to help it along.

is bullying, abusing and chasing aromantic and asexual people out of the community actually helping anyone? is it helping trans people get binders or breastforms, or find surgeons, or connect with other trans people? is it helping mspec people figure out that being attracted to multiple genders is normal and okay? is it helping lesbians and gays find each other? is it helping intersex people learn more about their conditions?
it's not. it's not helping anyone else get the resources, support and help they need. all it's doing is denying a huge chunk of the community their right to have the same things we have and want. it's not helping a single soul. it's not making it easier for anyone else to get what they need by removing these groups of people, because as queers, we all have different needs. we are here to help each other. the point of community is to help.
if you refuse to help one or two specific types of members of your own community, you are prejudiced and you are the one being disruptive to the unity and functionality of the queer community. you are the one causing problems- not the aromantics, asexuals and other aspectrum people.

My sort of maybe embarrassing “late to the game” thing I’m learning now is how to tell if oil has gone bad.
I feel like most other foods have obvious visual tells like mold or they end up smelling foul and obviously bad. But I was googling about oil and the internet says “if it smells like crayons, it’s bad” which would not have been my first guess. And I tested it out on my somewhat old sesame oil and was like “by god, I would describe this as smelling like crayons”
Anyway protip if your old oil smells kinda like crayons it’s probably no good 🖍️

"no you're wrong everyone here knows that jkr is a terf but they hate us / don't care" my gay psychiatrist who specializes in lgbt patients needed me to explain to him what a "terf" was. another counselor i saw whose brother is gay and works in the transfem community had a harry potter mug on her desk. the political beliefs of a british fantasy book author are not high on american news priorities. please be real. your knowledge is specific and not world-shattering in the scheme of things. venture outside your bubble for 5 minutes and talk to someone who isn't a white queer in their 20s.
