Many think multitasking is a great thing, but in this world of overwhelm and overstimulation this is a mistake. We need to make time for ourselves and one of the best examples is to concentrate on one task at a time like eating. When you’re eating, enjoy your meal, it’s your body’s opportunity to take in nutrients, and reward it for all the work it’s asked to do. Learn to slow down by compartmentalizing, decompressing and letting your mind and body take a necessary break. This was my opportunity while at the Dallas airport to reinvest in the body, say thank you by not inhaling my meal. Make time for you, so you have quality time for other things. Your performance will improve as will your health. (at Admirals Club - DFW A) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cqjl6DNuIqz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"The only bird that dares to peck the eagle is the crow. It sits on its back and bites its neck. However, the eagle doesn't respond, nor does it fight with the crow; it doesn't waste any time or effort on it, it just opens its wings and begins to climb up the highest place in the sky. The higher the flight, the harder it is for the crow to breathe and then the crow falls due to lack of oxygen. Do you fly with crows, allowing them to dictate what you do? Own who you’re meant to be, raise the altitude where you choose and are meant to fly. Stop wasting time with “crows”, they are distractions, people trying to destabilize your journey and keep you under the clouds. Push yourself to fly higher than the pack of birds, to heights you are meant to soars at and they will disappear on their own". *Copied-Author Unknown (at San Juan Capistrano, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqW0B5GLwDz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Rethinking Concussion Treatment | Dr. Balaguru Ravi | TEDxBuffalo https://youtu.be/DeFrHAR6_C0 via @YouTube "You shake it, you break it". This describes the fragility of the brain. "The kindest people are not born that way, they are made. They are the souls that have experienced so much at the hands of life, they are the ones who have dug themselves out of the dark, who have fought to turn every loss into a lesson. The kindest people do not just exist - they choose to soften where circumstance has tried to harden them, they choose to believe in goodness, because they have seen firsthand why compassion is so necessary. They have seen firsthand why tenderness is so important in this world." ― Bianca Sparacino, A Gentle Reminder https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp-rAshJcBk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The great thing about our CBU regional sport psychology conferences is that they get better each year! The last two days showcased the important work being done by many of our former students along with some amazing keynote speakers. We all got better for our field. If you’re lucky, you will cross paths with a few people in your life that you just know are meant to do great things, and my role as a mentor is help facilitate the progress in their journey on or off the field. Coach Zuniga embodies the values of what I deem to be coaching at its highest level. High character, integrity, work ethic, building on a standard for these young men to follow and be committed to. When he called asking for my help there’s was no hesitation, in fact 45 minutes later I was in my car Embarking on a 12 hour ride . The differences seen in the last 48 hours did not translate in the score column last night but behind the scenes we’ve already seen a preview of what is becoming possible. And at the end of the day that’s what a Coaches job is all about - to inspire, push and to provide belief that a team can aspire to do great things New Mexico State Baseball is in good hands with Keith Zuniga and these young men are going to do great things. I’m honored to be a part of this journey, and in this young man’s inner circle. (at Las Cruces, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpYBOfHuxzW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“Never judge a book by its cover”. We’ve heard that phrase 1 million times yet every one of us hold some sort of bias, judgment. We immediately want to put a label on someone before getting to know them. I am so glad I took the time to introduce myself to Javier Gomez who then brought Bradley George in. Our paths and backgrounds had so much more in common than any of us imagined and the link that brought us to this gathering was Service. These guys are just cool, and knowing that our devotion to service made the evening that much richer. One would’ve never have dreamed that the three of us will be sitting together and having profound deep conversations about life society, and trying to make the world a better place. Thank you @coach_scottj of Coast tactical for bringing us together. What an awesome night, and I’m glad to have “read a few pages rather than glance solely at the cover”. And they’re both amazing barbers so look them up! (at Hot Rods & Handguns) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpVomBCvVnk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Engage people who challenge you, not just the ones who affirm you. We will not truly progress as our best selves until we make an honest effort to understand those who are different than us or are the brave truth tellers in our life. In sports this can be a coach, the official making a “blown call” , a teammate or simply the competition revealing your shortcomings. It would be boring if all we did was scrimmage so embrace the challenges an opponent called life provides. Those are the things that help make us better. https://www.instagram.com/p/CpGTozTPClY/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In the most simplest description, my job is to share the lessons from my personal and professional experiences and relate those stories in a way that help others improve their own lives. Regardless of what uniform they may wear, we are all human beings wanting to do good work, good things, and in some cases be validated for who we are. The privilege of “getting to” do this work is never lost with me. Many years and thousands of people later, there isn’t one day where I don’t give thanks and appreciate every call or interaction. Thank you Joy for asking me to share a few of my stories with your audience. I hope we inspire a few minds to believe in what’s possible.
