Hey there! I recently encoded the book 'James' by Percival Everett, and it got me thinking as to what you think about some of the literary retellings of 'Huck Finn' that've been written over the years. Have you read any? If so, d'ya have any recommendations?

oh wow, there’s going to be a new book coming out for a modern retelling of huck finn? i looked it up and i see it’s from jim’s pov too, so i’m very intrigued. i’ll have to get it as soon as it’s released!
honestly, now that i’m being asked the question, it’s making me realize i’m not too familiar with many modern retellings of huck finn. i’ve seen the 2016 movie band of robbers, which is a combination of both tom sawyer and huck finn. it’s pretty fun, and i thought it was a very interesting spin on racial issues in the US discussed in the og book. i have to say though, actions of the kids from the original novel do NOT translate at all flatteringly onto grown men 😭
i’ve only skimmed “the boy in his winter” by norman lock. because i’ve never actually dived into it i can’t say whether i’d recommend it or not, but it’s sort of a modern retelling. it’s supposed to be time traveler huck coming from his own canonical time period to modern times. another one i’ve never actually read the whole way through is “the new adventures of tom sawyer and huck finn” by lisa mannetti; i think that one is also set in present time. there’s also “huck finn” by olivia vieweg, it’s a french graphic novel and all the illustrations are super cute.
mmmm a bonus that’s not modern, but still another retelling is the french graphic novel “o’boys” by steve cuzor, set in the 30s. again, i apologize my list isn’t very good!! a lot of these i’ve only skimmed, or had to plug into translators, so i can’t say with 100% certainty whether i think they do the og novel justice or not. but hope this helped!

Hello again! Thank you for your recommendations, I really liked several of them.
I wanted to tell you that I recently read Away Childish Things by Lettered and I loved it. This left me wondering, do you know of other drarrys who talk about the mistreatment Harry suffered under the Dursleys? I think it's very interesting to see the consequences of childhood abuse growing up and how someone (Draco in this case) can help heal that.

i debated for the longest time whether or not i'd do this. it's been a time. i've not created for fandom in what feels like ages and am truly going through the motions over my place here but, no matter what, there are people whose talent, wisdom, kindness and friendship keep my days bright and my spirits high.
