WeChat（LINEみたいなもの）に現地の知人の銀行口座から入金しておいてもらってほとんどQRコード決済。
日本人の現金決済信仰の理由に「現金決済の匿名性」があると聞くけど、それはクレジット（信用）カード払いを前提に考えてるからという気がする。プリペイド前提、まして友達の口座に入金アリとか、複数社をまたぎ個人が挟まるなんてトレーサビリティ怪しい（犯罪捜査とか開示要求ができる状況は別）。

そうしたら、どんな反応だった？

一人の人間の中には、ある程度の価値観の統一性が必要なのだと思います。相反する考え方を洋服を着替えるようにパッパと交換することはできないのです。そうしようとすると、心理���に大きな負担がかかってしまいます。海外在住者は異なる価値観や文化の中でどうにかうまくバランスを取ろうとしているものですが、それには大きなエネルギーが要るのです。特に、物事を深く考えるタイプの人は多大なエネルギーを使って考え続けています。いっそのことどっちかの価値観に偏ってしまった方が、安定が良くて疲れないという面があるかもしれません。
海外在住者がよく言う、「海外生活で視野が広がった」というのは、新たな価値観を取り入れたということで、新たな価値観を得たことで景色が違ってみえるようになる、今まで見えていなかったものが見えるようになるというのは、素晴らしい体験だと私はこれまでの長い海外生活の経験から強く感じています。
その一方で、多くの異なる価値観を取り入れていくと、それだけゆらぎも大きくなりがちです。自分の中の価値観を統一したい（そしてラクになりたい）という無意識の欲求と、偏らずに相対的でいるべきだという意識との綱引きが続いていく。

日本人にとっての「美肌」は、追い求める「理想」。理想に近づく努力を日々惜しまない。アメリカ人にとっての「美肌」は、チャレンジの成果で、自分の「強さ」を表現するもの。フランス人にとっての「美肌」は、「リラックス」した自分が表現されている状態。そんな国別の美肌イメージの差は、当然、日頃のスキンケア習慣の差となって表れる。

Taipei 2016: Swiio Hotel, Daan
Mom and I found ourselves in Taipei by chance. We were originally supposed to travel in mid-2015, but decided to rebook due to the volatile regional political climate at the time. When we arrived at the ticket office to rebook, we had no clue about where we were going. When the agent said “Why not Taipei?” we thought “Well, we haven’t explored that city!”
This was a no-itinerary, go-where-our-feet-take us sort of trip. We had just come from Cambodia ten days before and chose to look at Taipei as a vacation- time to catch up on rest and not pressure ourselves to do and see everything. Luckily one of the things we decided on a whim was this chic boutique hotel- Swiio Hotel, in the Daan district. It’s perfect location allowed us to eat and sleep whenever we felt like it.
The facade of the Swiio Hotel makes it stand out against the neighborhood grey and older buildings. It’s located in a quiet neighborhood, some good distance from the city center but still surrounded by little restaurants.
The interiors are refreshingly minimalist. This is the lobby. We appreciated how there were cool transparent umbrellas for guest use anytime- it was raining the whole weekend we were there.
Our room was on the 7th floor (the building was 8 stories high). This was the hallway.
This was our room! While classified as a boutique hotel, Swiio had 5-star details and amenities. We were impressed! That bed alone could be likened to those they have in big foreign chains. So soft and fluffy.
The hotel is relatively new (opened last quarter of 2015) so they’re pretty high tech. Instead of having up your usual hotel door signs, the options for Do Not Disturb, Please Wait, and Make-Up Room would light up at the push of a button.
This was the desk area- incredibly spacious. It was perfect for laying out things/doubling as counterspace.
There were Bose Soundlink Mini Speakers in every room. Kohler fittings in the bathroom. Even the littlest things were state of the art.
The minibar was fully stocked with tea, coffee, drinks, and snacks. Everything was free! So everyday we would have a restock of Pocky and Pringles.
The room was supposedly for only 2 guests, but this lounge was huge enough for another person to comfortably rest in.
The bathroom was separated from the room by a floor-to-ceiling glass panel. It also had automated blinds, for anyone who might find that awkward.
The bathroom itself was Japanese style. There was a small tub to submerge yourself in then a shower area next to it.
Rain showerheads are the greatest.
Even the toiletries were chic- they had a local line make them good quality toiletries with minimalist packaging. Even the slab of stone to place them on was custom-made.
All the toiletries were wooden- the combs, the toothbrushes. I appreciated the effort to be earth-friendly!
At Swiio, you get complimentary breakfast the next morning with every night’s stay. You have a choice of eggs benedict, eggs with ham, or my favorite- Shakshouka.
This was the perfect breakfast to have- not too heavy so that you’re too full to try all of Taipei’s street food but not too light so you won’t have enough energy to walk around in the morning. The bread was crunchy and toasty, the eggs savory and so flavorful.
We ended each day with a walk around the neighborhood. Safe, quiet, and quaint, we’re glad to have found our favorite home-away-from-home in Taipei.
