MY GUYS HAVE GROWN SO MUCH!! Sometimes I can't believe Zach used to be skinny, it's like a jump scare seeing old drawings of him LMAO.

I redesigned my sona a little bit! The top was me playing with the design and the bottom is what I settled on. They are a fallen angel that takes the form of a black sheep!

GODS AS ARTISTS AND REALITY AS THEIR EXPRESSION HAS INTRIGUED ME FOR A LONG TIME. Idk it just makes so much sense to me especially when trying to justify a seemingly indifferent/cruel god. I see so many people take joy in making their little guys suffer as a form of catharsis or to provide a satisfying progression to their themes/story arc, and I was like ok but actually? That would be horrific if a god with dominion over sentient beings operated that way. Also makes sense why a god would feel personally slighted towards those that go against their whims, just like we get frustrated when a drawing isn't going the way we wanted. We want to have control over our art, not the other way around.

I've talked about these guys a few times in passing without ever showing them or going in depth about their deal, so here are Solem and Edax, the two ram god siblings of Zyterra.
In the beginning of time before everything, there was Null, a sentient, interdimensional gloom comprised of a writhing mass of cellular organisms constantly in a cycle of death and rebirth, making up the ambiance of existence. As is the case within any network of cells in constant flux, eventually there is an error during duplication, and existence's first-ever "mutation" produces Solem and Edax simultaneously, the two opposite but complementary halves that made up Null. (Light and Dark, or Solem and Edax respectively.)
As the creator of anim, Solem makes more of an effort to meet them at their level, so most depictions of them show them clothed or taking part in hedonistic pleasures like wearing jewelry, eating, partying, etc., with their third eye shut (for the sake of the ref I've chosen to show it open)
Edax, creator of Umbrum, prefers to be more bestial and disconcerting. The suit is a begrudging formality that it extends for certain occasions, but most depictions of it show it as a feral ram or sentient darkness.

SO I've been going crazy about this guy in private, made an entire sketch comic about him and everything, all without actually introducing him to the public so here he is!
His name is Aelius Fatum. They used to be a small-town priest before he experienced the onset symptoms of sudden cardiac death on his way home from a service and lost consciousness. He was given medical care, but unfortunately he was not able to be revived and passed away. Well, sort of!! His heart stopped for around 10 minutes and he was pronounced dead, but then miraculously it started beating again. Aelius was never the same after the incident though, going from warm and jovial to withdrawn and emotionally repressed.
Because of the mystique surrounding their recovery, they are offered a seat among The Shepherds of Cinderhallow, since it's clear they MUST be blessed by Solem in some way. They reside there to this day, becoming something of a de facto leader as they say and do things that suggest that Solem speaks with them- or through them often.
They are a strong proponent of the mindset philosophy of Amor Fati to justify the action- or inaction of their god, and they navigate every situation with an unnerving calmness because of it. To Aelius, Solem is an artist, and reality is their art made to express the complexities of their inner landscape. Any tragedy that Solem allows to happen is because sometimes art exists to challenge us and make us uncomfortable. Anything is fair game if it properly communicates Solem's vision, because that is what good art does.
Following the art metaphor, I believe Aelius interprets his roll as Solem's paintbrush/pen/pencil etc, a tool that can be utilized to bend a reality that the artist can exist within in all ways but physical.

I do enjoy how Lucas's use of contractions is a solid indication of the progression of his and Zach's relationship. Observant chapter 1 readers will have noticed that before he was taught how to read, he didn't use them.
He uses them in that sketch comic, meaning this takes place during a time when Zach and his relationship was considerably closer and I think it would have to be for them to have conversations like that.

Also when I say I don't relate to the feelings in that comic anymore that is only half true. Something something every version of me that has died is actually still there in the background and healing for me has just been me telling them "I'm sorry, you deserved better".
