i was about to be like "haha peter lukas is so dumb for picking the guy whose main role in the narrative is being in love" but then i realized that martin's love is what makes him lonely, so he couldn't rescue himself from the lonely by thinking of people he loves, which was the solution presented in all the statements we'd heard about people being trapped in the lonely. so instead i am just sad
