|| || She was intimately acquainted with that very concept, no doubt, caged so long behind the bars of that ugly metal fortress...
Terra's story, should she ever choose to share, would find a captive audience in Kuja. Their paths had diverged-- he had been exiled from his role, she had escaped from hers-- but he had long decided that he would strive to understand her perspective, pick the common threads from their experiences to weave together into something mutual. Empathy, a most alien concept, would become something he could tangibly grasp, and convincingly clothe himself in.
"Frankly, I've never held any fondness for violence," it came as a silvery sigh, words teetering dangerously at the very border of truth. The form of self-expression he had practiced, so often misconstrued as sheer brutality by the masses, was completely beyond their mortal grasp. They had all lacked the capacity to see the elegance, the intricate layers of passion ( anything that knows terror becomes beautiful before death. Terror quickens the heart, pours more lightning into the blood, charges each droplet with fire... ) the purpose underlying his art... Moreover, the most grievous deeds attributed to him were, in fact carried out by proxies. Thus, in a most literal sense, his hands remained unblemished.
And yet, Kuja harbored no intention of telling any of this to Terra.
...
Was it, then, hypocritical of him to expect her openness in return?
No, no of course not... but it was a thought which nevertheless began to nag at him, so he banished it with a smile at her, "Those ensnared are well beyond aid. The most we can hope is to offer them clarity in its aftermath, hmm?"
If anyone could offer that, it was surely she.
