Davy Jones almost never lies, and there’s something interesting about that.
He’s Scottish, after all; wee Davy’s ma would have told him about the Lords and Ladies and how they’ll steal you away if they can, but there are rules. If you’re told not to eat the food, don’t eat the food. If you’re told not to leave the path, don’t leave the path. If you keep your wits about you and follow the rules, you can play their game and win…
And then she said she’d be there after ten years, and she wasn’t. Why wasn’t she there?
The second closest Davy comes to telling a lie is this: “Feel free to go ashore- the very next time we make port!” Which is a very Fae-like loophole, because a long time ago he went down by Carterhaugh and the Queen of the Fairies herself took him away, and he has become one of them himself. And the very next time the Dutchman makes port, at Isla Cruces, it’s then that Will goes ashore, so Jones wasn’t lying that time at all.
The only lie Davy Jones ever tells is this:
“I do not… love you.”
