HAPPY HALLOWEEN HOLY SHIT
I got the perfect halloween tame, I'm still not over it. After getting my ass kicked all day (cant find a doedic + found a 174 anky that got fucking annihilated during taming so only ended up with like 50% effectiveness)
I fully accidentally ran into a 180 rex. My exact reaction was "fuck" because I did not want to tame one yet. I do not have a finished base, I don't even have anything to cave with, I don't even have a longneck, I am not ready for this. Also, it was surrounded by Allos and another rex.
But I went FUCK IT cause i couldnt NOT tame a 180 especially when it spawned right next to my base and got some shit for a trap together and what ended up happening was the entire universe got together to get me this rex
The rex moved to the beach area instead of further inland toward mountain area so there was a lot less chance for a predator to come by while I was shooting it
Of all the things surrounding it when I first saw it, there was just 1 allo and the other rex left
The other rex and it completely fucking ignored me while I was trying to build a trap. It went so far that I just built dino gates around the rex when it ran into a tree. It didnt even notice me.
I have no fucking clue where the other rex went while I was trapping it. I havent seen it since. Everyone just...left me alone?
I have an ascendant crossbow from a drop that does REALLY good damage and it reduced the amount of tranqs I needed to fire drastically. The drops are so much better in this version. I think they might even be a bit overtuned? But for the love of god dont change them back WC theyre also more annoying to get
It got trapped easy. It went down easy. It's got halloween colors. It came out with a whopping 55 health stat. I am so happy

For some reason these screenshots are coming out a lot blurrier than intended it seems?
ANYWAY ark ascended is good. my beast of a pc cant run it on any higher than medium-high settings and I still get random FPS drops but in order to run it properly I think I'd need to shell out like 2k for new computer shit
And either way, medium-high still looks very good compared to ASE. I do think the sound design could do some work UI wise tho.
It's also SUCH a hassle to get anything started because they improved the pathing of the AI so much so you cant fucking stand on a rock anymore and shoot shit with tranqs and have them charge you mindlessly. I managed to get a ptera at some point in order to tame an argy (look at that health stat!!) and am only now getting anything else significant.
Which, funnily enough, is exactly how my first playthrough of ark went.
The island is damn near unrecognizable so even though I spent 800 (!!!) hours on this map I can't fucking tell where I am 90% of the time. It's amazing. It's SO different. The wild babies are a super nice add too. OH and they also added some new shit? Ruins and stuff? Which I'm building my base in. It's very nice. One of them has 2 conveniently dino gate shaped doorways. I see what you did WC.
I don't know where the tek dinos went tho lol. Disappeart. And I miss my S+ :( otherwise solid 10

So the past few days, all I've really done is build & tame a little.
I installed a different stack mod cause mine made everything too easy. I have are very small stacks now compared to the last one (250 stacks for most things) with no weight reduction. So of course I immediately decided to make an entire metal house.
I've got that finished up and am working on a breeding pen right now so I can breed my ravagers. I'm still looking for a good level equus, and tamed a 174 abberant raptor which turned out to get 24 in melee...very sad. It's probably karma for killing that 180 raptor that attacked my base a bit back I should've checked it's level, dammit.
I did also tame a 174 shinehorn though! I'm thinking of taming some good spinos soon to start a mutation line, but also to have a mount I can use to claim some rockdrake eggs.

So it has been A While
I pretty much went radio silent on this blog for 2 years because I started a new study, which I have now completed lmao. I got a new graphics card and decided to start up Ark again, and it looks so insanely good.
I essentially speedran Scorched when I started up again. When I quit I had a couple of wyvern breeding projects going and was starting on a rex line for the manticore. I ended up getting rexes with insanely high stats to begin with, so after getting 10 mutations into health I went "fuck it" and fought the Alpha Manticore and easily beat it.
So I debated on whether or not I'd try and get a phoenix, decided not to because finding one was a hassle, picked up my rex line, wyvern lines and some creatures I could not bear to leave behind and fucked off to abb.
I didn't take any creatures with me from the island to scorched so starting abb with good creatures was a welcome change honestly. Abb is the only other map I played before I "canonically" got there (excluding free DLC ones) so I've done the whole getting started on it spiel, and it sucks. No basilisks greeted me at the portal though and I've set up a little house (actually just like...a couple foundations & 1 high walls) by the river.
Because I've played a lot of abb already I kind of just wanna speed through the beginning. I wanna go ahead and get my breeding lines started. Probably just abb spino & rock drakes, but I also wanna go through the hassle of getting possibly an event colored reaper king if any events happen soon. Or at all, if they haven't completely dropped the idea in lieu of ASA.

Every damn day I’m arguing with some smooth brain who tries to tell me that Ark used to be a “prehistoric game about cave men and dinosaurs” and every time I have to pull out my “early access from day one” card and point out that the obelisks, the holographic implant, the assault rifles and shotguns and electricity system were in the game from the start and also NOT THINGS THAT EXISTED IN PREHISTORIC TIMES

So the past couple days, all I've really done is breed.
It started with the Thyla, who is named Nefud. His stats aren't amazing cause I was just breeding for colors and thylas are super strong anyway, but I adore how he came out! Very deserty.
Tui is the argy. Named after the moon spirit from ATLA, I'm still working on La who will look very much like a parrot. It's been a couple days and I'm just missing the last color for her, but the event that started really helped with that lol.
I leveled Tui in movement speed, installed a heavy auto turret and...managed to grab a wyvern egg. A 66 I believe, and Tui almost died during lol. So when I used the resulting lightning wyvern to grab some more eggs...he died, but I did get a 222 egg out of it. The wyvern pictured chilling on the mountain was the result, and I used her to grab some eggs. I couldn't find any good fire/poison ones till today, but I did find some more good lightning ones, including one with amazing colors, so I bred those two together to get good stats + good colors and the black wyvern you see these is the result. Currently breeding some stat mutations!
And THEN while I was looking for an argy to help me complete La, I ran into this amazing looking event colored Tapejara. And bonus points: she was the highest level tapejara I'd seen thus far, at 174 so of course I immediately just dropped everything, gathered some rare flowers and began the arduous task of taming tapejaras :/ It's real annoying but I am so so so in love with her. I'm gonna find a male to breed some mutations with and to get a copy of her just in case..you know. She dies lol
and LAST but not least I finally got a 162 poison egg and a 198 fire egg. I am incredibly hyped about the fire because LOOK at that melee stat. Holy shit

So I have been Busy
My base is a lot bigger now, with 2 new buildings. One extra crop farm building and a breeding building/aviary later probably.
I did a bit more wolf breeding and came out with a new pack, who I used to hunt deathworms in order to get their horns to get mantises. I have 3 females and 1 male with the same stats breeding now. I've got 2 color regions that I wanted that are pink, now I'm just waiting for the white main body and I'll have myself an orchid mantis.
I also tamed 3 really good argies! No wasted points makes it so easy to get amazing flying creatures now, it's insane. I've combined all of them and came out with 57 points into stam (!!!), 44 into weight, 48 into melee and 41 into health.
The other stats are high as well, so the base argies from my breeding pair come out at level 296. I got that GORGEOUS red color as a mutation so I'm gonna try and make a parrot argy! I need 2 of them, one for normal travels and one for wyvern egg snatching so super high movement speed.
I also randomly found a level 180 thyla and spent like 2 days searching for a high level male. Neither of them came out with really great stats, but I'm currently mutating and thylas are stupid OP anyway.
Just lots and lots of building and breeding .__. havent gone out much except for taming.

i havent posted any pictures because ive been suuuper busy but also, not much has happened
i did find another mantis so now im breeding mantises & i found another thorny dragon as well. OH and a 180 doedic who came out with 57 points into weight!!! and an anky! so just utility tames.
been working on a HUGE building for like 3 days now so its mostly been gathering stuff.

i forgot to upload pictures but today i:
- bred some more wolves
- tamed a morellatops
- tamed a thorny dragon
- killed another death worm, almost went to fight an alpha which despawned while i was next to it the moment i turned my back
- tamed a level 174 MANTIS hell yea!! so now I actually don't even need a doedic. I still want an anky though
- found out theres a 162 female mantis so i need to tame that one once i get the horns cause mine is male and i want mantis babies
- worked on my base now that I have some utility creatures

so i've gotten a lot done in the past 2 days
Ive mutated some terrorbirds (and got a breeding pair with pretty good stats as well!) and the blue and bright green one you see above is the current result. Her name is Hazard. I won't be mutating any further till I go for stat mutations!
I also have a bright green and bright pink Jerboa now named Chems. He wears a cowboy hat and he's my baby.
I managed to tame another direwolf and was VERY disappointed. The wolf was level 162, female (i had a male already) and with 30 points into melee, which is high. For those of you that don't know, the levels you gain on taming have a 70% (iirc?) chance of being put into the highest stat you have. All her other stats were average. To compare, the 135 allo I tamed on the island had 29 points into melee and post tame it had 44 points.
SHE ONLY GAINED 6 POINTS. Her melee stat went from 30 to 36 which is average and im still so sad over it. Her food stat though? Went from 26 to fucking 44!!!!! WHY. I missed out on such good wolves..
:/ I'm definitely still a little salty. But it's fine. The pack I have currently killed a deathworm which means that if I farm them I can tame a mantis at some point and get to breeding those. I still don't have anything that can farm berries, though..
I also found out that there's a stupid amount of rock elementals on this map. Theres at least 7 or so pretty near my base. I run into them ALL the time. The good thing is that there's a 180 as well! So I might be able to tame that at some point, just for bragging rights.

So today was a lot
I moved bases cause a rock golem spawned next to mine. I am nowhere near prepared to handle one of those. I'm up way north now, but it's pretty safe!
My terror bird died :( it was level 76 or so at the time of death. I also lost the 180 saber I was tracking. Well, I didnt lose it, but it threw itself off a cliff trying to get to me.
Instead, I first tamed a 114 saber. Found out I couldn't make a saddle for her cause I needed more metal. On the way to finding more metal we ran into a 162 terror bird, which I managed to tame after a LOT of trouble. It broke through a part of my trap and I had to run back to base (thankfully close by) to get more tranq arrows halfway.
THEN we ran into a 174 wolf which I managed to lead into the same trap after! Taming that one was even worse because after running back to base halfway AGAIN to get more arrows (headshots are wonky in this game so I kept not having enough) my crossbow broke. Literally the last tranq arrow while using my regular bow was enough to knock it out.
So I was feeling very lucky and then! Boom. Poison wyvern lol. Very close to my base. I see it fly around sometimes but once I got these 3 creatures I went on a metal/crystal/obsidian run, made a spyglass and found out its only level 42. We could theoretically kill it if I had a gas mask.
Made a lil start on the beginning of the base, but I'm not gonna continue until I have a thorny dragon and a doedic. It's such a hassle otherwise

so here we are.
I managed to transfer over succesfully to scorched earth. Some things have changed:
- The gather rate is lower
- Difficulty is now 6, meaning the max level dino is 180 for normal, 216 for tek/wyverns and stuff
Up until now I havent actually died, which I'm pretty happy about. Honestly, scorched is a mess with the environmental hazards. As you can see, my base is gonna be next to water (its actually pretty much right on 50lon 50lat coordinates wise) so that works. Also, I have an S+ setting that allows me to place an intake pipe anywhere lol. But that kinda felt like cheating so I'm situated near water anyway.
It seems everything that wants to kill me is across the river, which is nice. Except for a very pesky level 180 saber strolling around here somewhere. Sadly, I can't seem to encounter it when I'm looking for it. I just got enough tranq arrows and built a trap and suddenly it's nowhere to be found. So I tamed a measly level 36 terror bird instead. I've never tamed a terror bird before, and this one was seperated from its (much prettier and better) level 120 cousin. Sadly I couldnt tame that one cause it was harrassing some doedics and was quite hurt
I am super looking forward to scorched, actually. My first weather event was a lightning storm so I hope its gonna be a really good experience. I know many people dont like this map but I actually love the aesthetic and love love LOVE the wyverns.
