Loki Deity Guide
Loki’s mythology is not as chaotic as you may think…
It’s even more chaotic than that!
Tumblr media
Who is Loki?
Often referred to as the Trickster God of the Aesir, Loki is actually the son of Fárbauti a giant, or a Jötunn, and Laufey, who was said to be a goddess. Though Loki is often referred to using he/him pronouns, can change his shape and gender at will.
While many of the old stories involving Loki paint him in a negative light, the same cannot be said for Loki’s modern followers.
Parents and Siblings
Fárbauti (Father)
Laufey (Mother), sometimes referred to as Nál.
Býleistr (Brother)
Helblindi (Brother)
Lovers or Partners
Sigyn (Wife)
Angrboda (Lover)
Children
Nari or Narfi (from Sigyn)
Hel (From Angrboda)
Jörmungandr (From Angrboda)
Fenrir (From Angrboda)
Sleipnir (From Svadilfari)
Epithets
Loptr (Old Norse meaning “Air”)
Hveðrungr (Roarer)
Contriver of all fraud
Shape-Changer
Sly-One
Wizard of Lies
Thief of Giants
Evil Companion
Kinsman of Sleipnir
Foe of the Gods
Forger of Evil
Contriver of Baldr’s death
Wrangling Foe of Heimdallr
Notes
Loki was known to be mischievous and at times malicious, but he was also rather helpful in many stories.
At some point Loki’s name became conflated with Logi, meaning “fire”, however, Logi is a separate being and is the Nordic personification or god of fire. Many blame Richard Wagner for this mix-up.
It is also possible that Loki’s name means “knot” or “tangle”.
It has been debated whether or not the Finnish "Lukki" (the name for a spider with thing, long legs) came from the same root as "Loki" ("luka" the proto-germanic word for "lock") but this is not a very popular belief and there is very little evidence to back it up.
Though Loki is part Jötunn, he is seen as part of the Aesir.
My personal favorite story of Loki is Þrymskviða, in which Loki and Thor disguise themselves as women in order to get Thor’s hammer back.
Sleipnir, Loki’s son, is an eight-legged horse that came to be when Loki had to transform into a mare in order to drive away the great stallion, Svadilfari. While Loki was in the form of a mare, the two came together to create Sleipnir who was said to be the fastest and best horse in all of the nine realms. Odin eventually chose Sleipnir as his steed.
One of the most popular tales involving Loki gets its namesake from the god, the Lokkasenna.
Loki ends up punished by the Aesir for either killing Baldr or for the events that take place in Lokkasenna. He is bound in a cave by the intestines of one of his offspring, his son Nari is turned into a wolf, and a venomous snake is placed above his head and drips venom into his eyes. Sigyn holds a shell above his head to protect him from the venom but every so often needs to empty the shell and the venom drips into his eyes once more.
In myth, it is said that Ragnarök will begin when Loki breaks free from his bondage.
Loki has been conflated with Lugh, the Irish deity due to their similar prankster and chaotic nature as well as the slight similarity of their names.
Modern Deity Work
There is no evidence that Loki had a cult or large following until modern times, so many of these correspondences, offerings, etc are going to be based on Loki’s mythology and current Lokeans’ posts.

Hello friends here is another prayer I wrote to announce offerings to our dear Loki. Feel free to use in your practice 💚🫶
Great and mischievous Loki,
God of fire and trickery,
Hear my call and lend me your ear,
For I seek your guidance and protection.
You are the bringer of chaos,
The master of disguise and illusion,
The one who can turn the tide of any battle.
I ask that you lend me your cunning,
Your wit and your bravery,
As I navigate the challenges of this world.
May your fire burn within me,
Giving me the courage to face any obstacle.
May your trickery guide me,
Helping me to find the best solution.
Great Loki, I offer you my thanks,
For your wisdom and your laughter.
I vow to always keep your name alive,
In my heart and in my deeds.
So mote it be!

Non-Alcoholic  Mulled Wine for Yule
Y u l e is a time of great symbolism and power. It marks the return of the sun, when the days finally begin to get a little longer. Enjoy this hot heavenly drink with traditional Yule spices & help yourself to the delicious fruity remnants!
For the base I used hibiscus tea. If you want to substitute it, you can use various types of juice (apple, cherry, grape, pomegranate,  chokeberry, blackcurrant, etc) but make sure the juice is not too sweet.
Ingredients: - Hibiscus Tea: 500 ml - Water: 500 ml - 1 Orange - 5 teaspoons of honey
Spices: - 1  cinnamon stick - 6-8 whole cloves  - Anise Star -2 stars Optional: nutmeg, ginger, or/and vanilla pods for extra sweetness in next year.
If possible, try using cinnamon sticks, anise stars etc, rather then milled spices, if you don’t wan the ‘wine’ to look muddy.
Boil water in the kettle (I boiled 1 litre at once). Separate into two pots. I had hibiscus tea in tesbags, and i used four of them. Let the tea brew. Meanwhile, put another pot on the stove and add spices; let them have a nice one minute bath in the boiling water.
Cut the orange, add it to the water with spices; pour in the tea. Add honey and stir until it is dissolved.
Best served hot, with gingerbread.

Charm Bag For Stability
You will need:
One personal charm (optional)
One piece of cloth, purple. (should be long enough to be able to sew the edges and make a pouch)
Yellow thread
1 tsp Lavender
1 tsp Chamomile
1 small Amethyst
1 small Amber
This is more of a symbolic spell, than a literal translation of magick.Don’t worry, it will work if you make it so, but you must understand the spell first.
Purple and Yellow make a good combination when striving for stability, polarity, balance, harmony, etc. Purple and Yellow can’t blend together nicely, and they are on completely opposite sides of the spectrum, and they represent warmth and coolness, day and night, masculinity and femininity. You may also use silver and gold, blue and red, whatever. Purple and Yellow are both colors of the air element which is known to be very stable, harmonious, and collected.
Instructions:
Take the purple cloth and sew with the yellow thread around into a square. Only one side should be opened after you’ve done this. Stuff the herb and the crystals into the pouch, putting all of your energy into this. Calming think of what it is you need to be stable, what it means to you to be stable, and what would make you feel safe. Finish the pouch by sewing it entirely until nothing can come out and the pouch is sealed. You can put your charm on the pouch now if you’d like.
Leave the pouch on a window sill, or where ever it can get light from the moon and sun. Leave there for two nights, and two days. Carry this on your person.

Nightwing Murdered In Front Of Batgirl
(she's halucinating, don't worry.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barbara has lost Dick multiple times in her life (Ric Grayson arc, Agent 37 arc, etc.) and each time she reacts so strongly, shows how much she cares for and loves Dick. No matter how many times she's had to lose him over the years.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her first instinct was to first embrace the body of her love, before going on a rampage and kicking ass left and right.
It's such a sad sight to see, even when she loses her love, she can't mourn properly because she had to avenge him straight after.
Tumblr media
They had contacted Robin prior to entering the building and getting gassed, they'd asked him to meet them there.
And as expected, Robin saves the day. Tim's such a good brother to both of them, it makes me soft.
Tim has been awkwardly wedged into Dick and Bab's slow but steady relationship (re)awakening since Nightwing #80, he seems genuinely relieved the tension is resolved LMAO he's so cute.
This panel from Nightwing #80 (specifically):
Tumblr media
Tim being a DickBabs shipper/stan is so cute.
