This particular scene struck something in me as a mother. Yennefer shifts from this power hungry, rage-filled mage to a mother willing to do anything for Ciri. You can see the desperation in her eyes and the determination in the last line. As a parent, the most terrifying thing is watching your child hurt the way you had to, and it’s clear in this scene that she loves her so much, she would do anything, kill anyone, who would try to subject Ciri to what she went through. It’s a huge shift from her trying to sacrifice Ciri to regain her powers and being willing to give up everything to keep her safe instead. She plays her politics, acts out the perfect role to have Ciri exactly where she needs to be to keep her safe. This scene had me in tears because there’s nothing like seeing someone so desperate to have a family finally have one. Even when they have so much more to lose.
