Okay so... Can someone explain to me our use of the word, "application" as it is used in popular culture?
My understanding of the word application is as in, "The application I submitted to a business was a digital form." In this sense, the application is a form containing my personal information that is being sent collectively to a business in an attempt to gain the attention of a hiring manager that I may get a chance to be hired at said business.
However, we I say the word "application" as in "Twitter app [app meaning application]", what is the "application" intended to do? In the previous example, the application is a symbolic stand-in for me to a hiring manager, representing me in the form of a document. When I say, "Twitter app", the application is a symbolic stand-in for me to a social media network? representing me in the form of an... account?
Okay. I guess that makes sense now... I just had to think that through because I feel like I'm going crazy over here with my Master's degree program.
