Modified image of Robert Ford as a young man. He was vilified for killing his fellow gangleader, a known criminal and killer, Jesse James. People referred to him as the Coward Bob Ford. He was haunted in multi ways by this action. He was paid to reenact the shooting thus playing it over and over. He was eventually himself shot and killed in Creed Colorado at the age of 30.

Choke cherries 2021-1, wip Choke cherries, acrylic on canvas Approx 84”x84” See the evolution and how dark the cherries were. It’s difficult to capture the colors because there are such a mixture of dark blue, greens, purple, turquoise mixed in and it’s semi-reflective too. Leaves leaving some great greens. The color quickly changes color because I just rubbed them onto the canvas. But I put on a top coat to see if I could keep some of it from browning. We’ll see if it works. Also, I didn’t know about the leaves at this point. I do think I felt a bit lightheaded and sick to my stomach. But don’t know if it was just in my head or not. Really, who would even suspect the leaves of an edible plant could be toxic? It apparently can be deadly because it carries amygdalin the common precursor to cyanide. It is contained in the leaves and seeds and can be toxic. However it was still used with pemmican and jams and syrups can be made from it also. That being said my choke cherry tree is in full fruit and I like to use them as a natural dye. The colors can range from deep purple to a deep blue and then sometimes a green and purple mix. Given time with no sealant the natural dyes turn a woodsy green with small flecks of purple or blue left behind. Three different pieces in the first photo. Almost two years ago I placed a bed sheet under a tree. Did a little spray paint and then weighted it down with rocks. It actually didn’t disintegrate as much as I thought it would. This will be part of a new project.
