Do you ever feel like it was easier being a kpop fan back in the day? I don't necessarily mean 10 or 15 years ago.. even 5 years ago, I find it was less hectic and more about music than streams and what not. Seriously, I get so anxious after seeing twitter threads and ig posts. It is all about streams, views, wins, sales etc. Not to say that wasn't a deal before - it was and always will be, but social media engagement just amplifies this to a level where, as a kpop fan, I feel anxious and nervous every time my favorite group or soloist makes a comeback. Cancel culture, debates on who is better, solo stans within the same fandom, popularity comparisons, companies being sh*tty and all this has always been tiring. Honestly, I just want to enjoy the music, MVs and performances and share that with people, but it has gotten really tough. I mean y'all telling me I cannot like other groups/soloists and that is betrayal? The hell is up with that??
I don't know. It could be me. I am not trying to say kpop was better and unproblematic before and all that, but it was somewhat easier. Toxic stans and haters are the cherry on top and I feel like I'm too tired for all this 😂
