I have a lot of feelings about the rise of he would not fucking say that attitudes in fandom spaces and the paralysing effect it can have on creators. As a writer i think it’s important to just write what feels true to you and not what you think others will “approve” of. Like even as a reader i have enjoyed a variety of different characterisations that all work because the writer makes them work for a particular story. And a fic that’s written out of character to some will be in character to others. Writing fic is not your job you’re not being paid it’s your hobby please. Make them as close to canon as possible. Make them completely different. Who cares! Have fun! Have so much fun! There is an audience for every kind of fic and every kind of character interpretation i promise

it would be REALLY cool if charactrs in media that are heavily implied to be aroace actually stay as aroace instead of them finding the right person and they end up having sex either way . idk just a thought

What if when making the "ugly" character "pretty" instead of taking off their glasses they just go get a different style of glasses that suits them better?
Maybe they weren't "ugly" in the first place, they just suck at choosing glasses

very funny when you have long-term OCs that didn't share many traits with you when you made them, but your circumstances have changed so now it looks like you were engaging in some extremely un-subtle projection

Every writer has two sides:
"I love my characters, they are my children and will protect them with my life"
"I wanna make them suffer so fucking much"

Fandom Ask Game!
Some are specific to writers or artists, but I made sure to include questions for everyone!
OTP?
OT3?
NoTP?
Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?
Out of all your fanworks that include [character], which is your favourite?
Show us a bit of a WIP!
Is there a piece of clothing you think [character] is particularly fond of/that you imagine them wearing a lot or like to draw them in?
How did you come up with the title to [insert fic]?
Write a recommendation of someone else's fic you enjoyed!
What's your favourite piece of fanart for [character]?
What's your favourite piece of fanart for [ship]?
What's the funniest or craziest AU idea you've ever come up with?
What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day?
Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you've changed your mind?
Have you noticed your style change over time?
Do people irl know you participate in fandom?
What's a book, movie, or show you think [character] would like?
Type [charater]'s name and tell us what the autocomplete suggests as the next word
What's your favourite thing about [fandom] (the people in it, not the media you're all enjoying together)?
When did you first join Tumblr? How long was it between that and finding [fandom]?
Go onto your AO3. Which ship have you written for the most? The least? Does this correspond to who you consider your "favourite?"
Give us a headcanon for [character]
Has your favourite character/ship changed over time?
What's your favourite thing about [character]?
What's your least favourite thing [character] said or did?

More Machine Witch
Her face (⊙v⊙) is just a facade, that's not the actual mouth wearing a smile
Not that she's a treacherous kind of figure though. Her personality kinda lives up to the jolly vibe she evokes

randomly remembering the time in 2012 when everyone kept saying the world was going to end at midday that day and like, i didnt really believe it, but i didnt want to be a complete fool if i was wrong, so i excused myself from class to go sit the field and perfectly timed the beat drop to a skrillex song just in case something happened. and im just. retroactively amused by the idea of ushering in the appocalypse with skrillex. most 2012 thing you could possibly do.

Every time someone talks about how it's our "purpose" or how we're "meant to" to reproduce, I want to tear my reproductive organs out and slam them down on the table.

Writing a self-insert is not automatically bad writing.
I’d make the argument that writing a self-insert is a good way of understanding your character better and how they’d react to their situation, the story, other characters, or whatever.
Asking yourself, “If I were in this characters shoes in this scene, how would I react?” Is a fair way to start.
That does NOT mean that character shares every single element of your life, your experiences, and your upbringing, they might not at all. But imagining yourself as that character with that kind of upbringing and that kind of experience is a fair way of trying to understand your character.
(^ That’s very specific situational advice. If your character is fantastical, sure, but if your character is from something in real life that you aren’t, don’t do it, talk to people who are and do research.)
The self insert part is not the issue. The issue is when the writer uses it as an act of entitlement. There is such thing as lying to yourself, acting like you’d handle everything perfectly, and that you’re the best person in the world with no flaws to your logic whatsoever.
And shocker, no one likes the character as a result.
It’s all about brutal honesty and real life experience. Your life is its own story and personal experiences shape you and how you view things in order to write stories about them in the first place.
It’s not just about being honest in the story’s context, it’s all about being honest to yourself.
Cause if you’re a fake, People WILL notice.
