Dear inclusive clothing company, It’s time that I hold you accountable. Thank you for reaching out to me and inviting me in your community for a collaboration. You have so many options and you choose me. Cool! But, I’m not the one for you. I’m actually invisible, I don’t exist. I mean, I believe I’m human, but the community guidelines and rampant fatphobia within social media has silenced me and my vision. I am a fat advocate for ALL bodies and I will be doing the community a disservice if I choose to collaborate with a brand that is asking me to shrink myself and for the mold of 3X. I’m not a 3X and the sad reality is I’ve spent my entire life just on the cusps of 3X hoping there was a seat at the table for me. In reality, there’s no seat. Unless I sacrifice my beliefs and my body, I cannot sit among the Plus Size Creators who spread positivity and collaborate with clothing companies. I simply don’t exists. Now this is not your fault. Your just a simple clothing company trying to make a name for yourself and be inclusive - and that’s awesome! However, I am not a simple “check off the diversity list”. I can’t be. I’m invisible. FaceBook, Instagram and TikTok have made it very clear that I can make an appearance, be an actual human once I shrink myself down to the appropriate size. And because I’m so defiant, many of my post, videos and past collaborations have fallen on deaf ears. More importantly, I’m not the attractive “curvy” body that can bring you the numbers your seeking. Just take a moment and look through your social media, check the hashtags and you will see nothing but pale faces and small plus size bodies and thin bodies. Your social media is telling you that I don’t exist. And they are right. In the past two years my reach has dropped over 70% many have forgotten and don’t know if I’m still here. This is the world we live in. But, you have the opportunity to prove everyone wrong. If you feel deeply about making a change, taking a stand and supporting fat bodies above a 3X, I’m right here. 09/06/19 I almost expired. I spent two hours trying to convince myself not to swallow pills and give up. Life didn’t matter anymore. As a black body, I know I don’t matter in society’s eyes. As a fat body, I don’t exists until my body mass is under 15. I spent two hours trying to convince myself that I should stay, regardless of my situation. Everyone is different and we experience different forms of oppression and I am not the exception. When I say I’m tired of trying to exist, it goes deeper than you can possibly imagine. Premme was made for me. I felt like I finally had a seat at the table. I had clothes that fit me and were beautifully designed. A catalogue that touched on my deepest inspirations and guided me to a new path of self-discovery. Gone were the days where larger bodies sat by the sidelines and watched as smaller fats dressed in the latest popular fashions. WE could have nice things too!
