That is until a forgotten wallet, a chance encounter, and a single leap of faith turned him into a paying member. Louis Tomlinson was a fit enough gym instructor to get Harry hooked, but now Harry wanted more than just a workout with him.
Or the one where Harry has to go to Liam at the gym he works at and just so happens to catch Louis giving a group exercise class, convincing him to start going to that gym just to see Louis as much as he can. And as it turns out, Louis may be just as eager to see him too.

As Louis took another bite, he thought back to how he had once believed that the hardest thing about being on Love Island would be Liam handling his social media.
He had been wrong. It was Harry Styles, peeking over at Louis as he forked a pancake into his mouth, and gauging his reaction. It was having to quench the swelling of his heart, which felt simultaneously like hope and the breaking of a thousand pieces.
A summer gone wrong (or very right) when, under Liam’s persuasion, Louis finds himself drunkenly applying for Love Island, and getting accepted. Oh, well. A summer spent on an island paradise couldn’t be all that bad, right?
Imagine his surprise when Louis arrives in sunny Majorca to find that his first love and ex-boyfriend, Harry, is another contestant, about to capture the hearts of everyone in the villa. Most normal people don’t have to face their ex on an otherwise straight TV show. Most normal people don’t fall for their ex again in front of the whole nation, either. Too bad this whole situation isn’t normal.

Niall let out a howl of laughter. “You met Harry Styles and didn’t even know it!”
“He was wearing a cowboy hat!”
“You climbed Harry Styles’ tree, and he told you to get off his property!” Niall rocked onto his back on the couch, his legs splayed dramatically in the air. “Can’t believe you met Harry Styles of all people.”
Louis frowned into his now empty glass of whiskey. “So what? He was still a dickhead about everything. He almost destroyed your drone!”
Niall laid out fully on the couch now, an arm thrown over his face. “Christ, Uncle Hank, can’t believe you’ve been living next door to Harry Styles, and no one even knew.”
Hank scratched at his chin a bit. “Would have probably told ya if I’d known you’d think it was such a big deal.”
“A big deal? Yeah, it’s not everyday you find out that the biggest child star ever fucked off to live on a horse ranch next to your uncle.”
“It’s actually a horse rescue,” Hank said. “Well, horses and Lacey, of course.”
“Lacey?”
“The goat,” Hank answered. “Not actually sure why he’s got just the one goat. Never asked. She’s a handful though.”
Hank chuckled as though privy to an inside joke about it. Louis didn’t care about goats though and wondered how they’d gotten off track.
“Can’t believe all my uncle cares about is horses and goats.” Niall uncovered his eyes and turned his head towards him. “I guess it makes sense now though that Harry was so paranoid about the drone.”
“Oh. Yeah, I guess.” Memories of screaming tabloid headlines flickered through his mind. “Probably would make anyone paranoid, but he could have apologized when he realized I was just, you know—”
“A dumb ass stuck in his tree?”
“Shut up, Neil. I wasn’t stuck! I was coming down just fine!” He thought back to that moment for a minute. “Huh, wonder if the other cowboy guy was his boyfriend.”
It hadn’t seemed like it by the way they acted and frankly by how Shawn had looked at him, but he was definitely good looking enough to catch the eye of a rich actor.
“Shawn?” Hank scoffed. “Nah, Shawn’s a local boy. Just kind of fell into the job and Harry’s decent at rescuing people and not just horses, I’d reckon.”
“And goats,” Niall added.
Hank nodded his agreement.
With a groan, Niall sat up and stretched. “Fuck, I’m tired. I’m gonna head to bed and nobody wake me up in the morning. It’s been fun but I don’t want to talk to anybody until tomorrow afternoon at the earliest.”
Pleasantly drowsy from the effects of the alcohol, Louis headed to bed as well. It took him a while to fall asleep as he laid staring at the ceiling and thinking of a handsome cowboy who wasn’t who he seemed.
An enemies to lovers au where Louis is Niall’s songwriting partner and Harry is a former child star who just wants to be left alone and live out of the spotlight on his horse ranch.

This premise is unusual, which I love. This author pulls it off with a flourish, keeping it hot, funny, and sweet. I loved the way the characters were fleshed out (pun intended?).

This twist on a soulmate au is a WIP, but one you definitely need to go read right now. Harry comes into Louis’ tattoo shop looking to get his soulmate tattoo illegally removed, but then Louis realizes he is his soulmate. Take that angst and add in conspiracy theories, heists, absolutely hilarious exchanges, and some palpable love between the characters, and you have this story. One of my all time faves.

This story is told from Jack Lowden’s perspective starting with a one night stand with a magical curly haired man (Harry). That man ends up pregnant, though, and Jack has to figure out what to do. This was really well written. It’s one of my favorite mpreg Harry stories ever! I really enjoyed this unique perspective and genuinely enjoyed the relationship and rapport the author built between Jack and Harry. Luckily, there’s some more content in this verse!

This one has been around for years, but I was grateful to find it. Harry’s best friend (and the man he loves more than anyone) has “harry” on his wrist, but it’s not because Harry is his soulmate. Louis’ soulmate passed away before he met him. This one is a great example of what you can do when you use a trope in unexpected ways.

Recently Read Fics for April 2020
what i’d do to have you near by softhar / @wastelandharry (GA, 1.4K) This is just a really lovely bit of a tease that sets the scene and tells a glimpse of a story in a perfect way. I wish the author would expand it –– I just loved the feel.
Snips & Snails by aimmyarrowshigh (M, 2K) A beautiful little bit of prose poetry that’s both tender and heart wrenching at the same time.
Forever, Uninterrupted by sparkk (E, 9K) Sexy, emotional, and made me a bit teary. I don’t often find Alpha Harry fics I like, but this one really worked for me.
a virgin to that money by eversincewefellapart (E, 7K) A cute, sexy hate to love relationship that results in making a sex tape? Sign me up.
No Control by the girlwiththekittentattoo (E, 3K) Another short fic that’s just super sexy and so well written. I love when an author can give the reader such a strong sense of their relationship in so few words.
Nothing But You On My Mind by nonsensedarling / @absolutenonsense (E, 84K) I couldn’t put this down from the minute I started. Everything about it was such fun. Terrific banter, great chemistry, unique story, beautiful writing. I literally read the first 9 chapters in one sitting. Starting at 1:30 in the morning (like an idiot).
into joy i’m sailing by @hereforlou (E, 5K) This fic is so tender and soft and sexy. The whole idea behind the fic was just something that felt very real and so fully realized.
pretty in pink by @hereforlou Another fic that gives the reader such a good feel for their relationship. Harry is whiny and needy. Louis is indulgent and loving. Very well written, sexy, excellent pacing.
sensitive to pressure by momentofclarity / @gaycousinlarry (E, 4K) This is so well written and so sexy (and filthy in the best kind of way). I love the overwhelm and the heady rush of a secret relationship. So much captured in so few words.
however do you want me, however do you need me by moonshinelouis / @moonshinelouis-archive (E, 7K) I always enjoy baby boyfriends and kink exploration. And this author really did this one well.
Have a Nice Trip by @kingsofeverything (E, 6K) I didn’t know I needed horny Harry tripping on ‘shrooms, but I definitely did! This is really funny and sweet. Definitely a quarantine pick me up.
The Stars Look Very Different Today by @kingsofeverything (E, 43K) Such an original story, even if you tend not to like sci-fi fics, I think you’ll enjoy this one. The flashback scenes, in particular, are outstanding and made me cry.
And last, but not least, I’m including my own fic because I like it very much and I hope you’ll check it out:
Whoever, However by Brooklyn_Babylon / @twopoppies (E, 9K) I can’t really give you a review on my own fic, but here’s the summary:
Louis could feel his heart rate pick up as he positioned the camera and Harry slowly stood up. They both knew what came next –– it had been clearly outlined in the advert Harry answered. The studio Louis worked for was filming a new series of camboy videos. Louis’ job was to make it look like amateur porn –– sweaty, sensual, dirty –– but well lit and edited. He was an artist, thank you very much.

I Won’t Let You Forget by @graceling-in-a-suit (T, 7K) I love the writing in this one. It’s one of those fics that has that kind of melancholic, dreamy feel to it that I really enjoy. Plus, it has a “no matter what, I would find you in any lifetime” vibe AND time travel! What else could you ask for? So good.
Bewitched by Snowy38 (M, 29K) Given that this is famous!Louis and witch!Harry you know off the bat that you’re in for something quirky. And this one is definitely that. It’s also fun and sweet and worth reading.
where your lips land by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (E, 12K) Ok, I’ve recommended this one a few times and I really do love it (I think I have 3 fics from this author in this fic rec alone)! Anyway, I love fics where the two of them are both artists of some sort (Louis is a poet in this one, Harry is a photographer) because it allows for another layer of understanding and connection and support. I particularly love the way Louis’ tattoos are woven into this story with layered meaning. And, as always, just beautiful writing.
Ain’t That A Kink In The Head! by keyshmashlesbian, wreckingtomlinson (karasunonolibero) (T, 22K) Honestly one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Famous!Louis, disaster gay not-famous Harry. Also includes great OT5 friendship, great banter, and a lot of laughs.
24K Magic by @justalittlelouislove (E, 33K) FINALLY a category in which I can rec this author! I love everything they write, but this was the first one I’d read and it’s just great. Smooth dialogue, sexy smut, great description of character growth…just a really fun fic.
Lightening Strikes Twice by @dinosaursmate (E, 106K) It’s not often that I read a 100+K fic multiple times, but this one is worth it. It’s one of my favorites from this author, and a favorite all around. It’s an epic love story spanning decades and massive life changes. It’s sexy and well-written, and so touching, and so fulfilling in many ways. Famous!Harry, groupie!Louis (also bookstore owner Louis, but that’s later).
Lambing Season by @helloamhere (E, 26K) This is beautiful little emotional fic and it’s one of my favorites. If you’ve ever wanted to leave your shitty work environment, escape to an idyllic countryside, and find love along the way, read this one.
Turning Page by purpledaisy (M, 68K) This author does a wonderful job with their characterizations which makes their fics such a pleasure to read. This one really has you rooting for curmudgeonly Louis and skittish/secretive Harry to figure their shit out and fall in love. If you like this one, make time to read this author’s fic, Walk That Mile – it’s one of my all time favorites.

A Few Very Good Mistakes by louisandthealien (NR, 12K) I don’t even know how this author does it. Their writing blows me away every time. This one is sad, hopeful, beautiful, moving…read it.
Is This Seat Taken? by Lainy122 (E, 36K) Lighthearted, sweet and sexy fic with famous!Harry falling for quick-witted, not-famous!Louis. Just a good, fun read with Louis really keeping Harry on his toes throughout.
Save your loving arms for a rainy day by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (E, 19K) Oh, I really loved this. Beautiful writing. Lovely characterizations. I love how harry makes Louis realize who he is/what he wants, but doesn’t “save” him. And yes, I cried…not from the angst this time, but from the declarations and descriptions of feelings. This author just gets it right.
They Never Quite Leave by @kiwikero (E, 24K) I read this one ages ago, and old me is helpful, as always, and only noted, “sexy ghost sex”. Sigh. However….I love this author and everything they write is beautifully done. So…I’m including it even though I can’t remember the details (except sexy ghost sex). LOL!
Tired, Tired Sea by mediawhore / @mediawhorefics (M, 113K) Always a favorite author, this one is beautifully descriptive and moody and charming. I was anxiously waiting for this one from the first drabbles I saw on Tumblr. I loved the way Harry’s character unfolded and let Louis in, the way Louis made space for him in his life (and heart), and the way Harry’s character struggled with and eventually found a way to live and be happy with his fame.
the impossible now by stylinsoncity (M, 65K) I screamed about this fic for weeks when it was first posted because it’s just so moving and so beautifully written. It’s got a twist to it that makes it both wonderful romantic and heartbreaking at the same time. Happy ending, I promise, but I cried. A lot. Shocker, I know.
My English Love Affair by isthatyoularry (E, 19K) Oh, this one has some really good angst and some really good smut and lovely writing and I’ve read it a few times and you should read it at LEAST once!
I would name the stars for you (I would take you there) by orphan_account (M, 91K) This is just beautifully written. Angst. Mutual pining. Dumb boys. Beautiful descriptions of art and creativity and fame and beautiful poetry. I re-read this recently and it still held up.
let me make a thing of cream and stars by missandrogyny (E, 25K) Louis isn’t exactly not famous in this one, as he’s a radio DJ, but Harry is the famous pop star. And the flirting and sexual tension is top notch leading up to some excellent smut (I would expect nothing less from this author) and a happy ending.
Dream Awake by protagonist_m (M, 31K) I read this one years ago and I remember think that the title was quite appropriate – there’s something very dreamy about the beautiful writing of this one. It’s one of those quiet fics that really should have found a wider audience.
California Sold by isthatyoularry (M, 124K) One of the few fics I’ve read and liked with a demisexual character (Louis), so that sets it apart to begin with. But also a unique story, a realistic build up of the love story, and you get a fake relationship on top of famous/not-famous! What more could you want?
i can be the motor (you be the gasoline) by @kiwikero (E, 8K) As I said before, this author is always a great read. Loved the set up of this one and I could have happily read multiple chapters of these characters!
Saved Tonight by objectlesson (31K, E) I really loved the deep discussion of art and fandom and LGBTQ+ representation. Plus excellent pining, sexual tension, and (eventually) sexy smut! Famous!Louis, fan!Harry.
May We Stay Lost On Our Way Home by LoadedGunn (E, 74K) Famous!Harry meets fairy!Louis. Yep. Mix in this author’s always incredibly hot smut, magic, quirky characters, and this is just a great read.
As You Are by zarah5 (E, 139K) This author is always a hit for me. This one has a really terrific side Narry bros friendship, Louis as Radio 1 DJ and XFactor judge, a secret relationship, and lots of sexy times. Angsty with a happy ending. Of course.
Fall Into Your Gravity by zarah5 (E, 74K) My notes on this one are useless. But I remember loving it and as I’ve already said, all of this author’s fics are worth reading. So….uni student Louis, pop star Harry. Good times!
Pull Me Under by zarah5 (E, 140K) One of the very first fics I read coming into this fandom and wow, what an intro. This author is a legend as far as I’m concerned. Everything they write is so good. This one has some of the sexiest smut scenes on top of also being wonderfully paced, and well-written. Famous!Louis, not famous!Harry.
Wear It Like A Crown by zarah5 (E, 141K) This is really royalty/not royalty, but I have to include it because it’s such a terrific fic and that’s still technically Famous/not famous. One of my favorites from this author. Really unique storyline, complex characters, great smut, great pacing. Famous!Harry, not-famous!Louis.
Singing to Tiny Dancer by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (E, 23K) I feel like I keep saying the same things but this author always gets my heart. Famous Louis this time, escaping his super star life and returning to the (home town, not famous) boy he used to know. *clutches heart and swoons*
Switch Out The Batteries by istajmaal, LoadedGunn (E, 88K) So, one of the things I really love about this fic is that because it’s dual POV, you get this story told from both the Dom POV and the Sub POV which makes it super fun and interesting. These authors always write truly amazing smut and this is no exception. I actually love the first part of this series, but it’s not necessary to read it first (and I didn’t include it because Harry isn’t famous yet in it, but it’s so good).
