Phew, that storm was a rough one! This past week school was out for over a week. Many folks in the Portland metro area lost their power/internet, some for days/ongoing. More houseless shelters were open than normal but disappointingly many of them closed before the ice and brutal temps were truly over. There were tragedies and hardships, and dare I say as often seems to be the case, Portland was underprepared for unexpected/intense weather. I found myself having a lot of indoor time this past week and a half to ponder mutual aid, community resilience, climate adaptation/preparedness, and my feelings around all of this. In a time of great uncertainty and unraveling, it can often feel that there is little within our control. Or, our feelings about what is going on in the world can feel like they might drown us. In these times of witnessing all that we are; the IRL heartbreaking genocide, the ridiculous election coming up in the United States, climate catastrophes, and so much more. It is more important now than ever to keep our hearts open and not be consumed in the shadows. To work on managing what is in our sphere of healthy determination and control, while also speaking out and acting upon what isn't, with the force of our hearts, minds, and souls. Here's a few things that could help: *Participate (how you're reasonably able) in this week's global strike for ceasefire in Gaza *Take a NET training (Neighborhood Emergency Team) with the city of Portland and become a certified NET responder for your neighborhood and community *Take a climate preparedness class, attend an event, volunteer with an organization *Have preparedness plans and supplies in place for your family and know your neighbors *Participate in a group such as those at Good Grief Network to learn heart-based processing techniques for working through the polycrisis individually, and in community *Practice Both/And thinking, learning to hold paradox, to sit with and know two truths at once, to stay open to the magic of emergence. @cascadia_stack has a couple of upcoming related events in Portland! #Zeratha_Lotussoul_Studios #CascadiaStack #ClimateAdaptation #goodgriefnetwork #Portlandstorm

Every day is a balance of sitting with uncertainty, of holding paradox while resting in deep gratitude. The knowing and the unknowing. My brother came to visit from Holland and my Dad from Virginia this past week during my birthday. It has been 5 years since my brother's last visit and 2 since my Dad's last. It was so great for my daughters to get to spend time with their grandpa and uncle and get to know them better. We picked a lovely, cloudy, not too hot day, to hike up to the top of Powell Butte through the forest from the crystal springs entrance by our house and back down the other side of the Butte. I've been having such a great July so far and an awesome welcome into my 46th year! I hope y'all had a wonderful Summer Solstice! This lovely Clary Sage bloomed fully in all it's splendor just for the occasion! After a couple days in bed with a flu like thing and the previous four days of weird Winterish weather I was so grateful for the sunshine today! Got the last two slightly smaller beds put together today and started putting one in. May have overdone it cause now my throat is sore but it was worth it to get out in the sun and work in the garden a bit! I'm so in love with the garden this year and all the fabulous organic medicine food and magickal plants growing.
