i don't think people really understand what's happening in gaza. with each passing day that sees more and more palestinians dead, it's becoming easier and easier for those in the west to perceive them as nothing more than a statistic. they might engage w the occasional palestine post, sure, but it's just as easy to scroll right past that moments later w no real outrage for the genocide retained.

it's vital to stay reminded that palestinians who are with us today won't be with us tomorrow. it's happening every second of every minute of every hour, and it's relentless. somewhere in gaza a little girl is losing her mother, a little boy is watching his siblings bleed to death, elderly people are infirm with starvation and illness, palestinian women and girls are being sexually assaulted and kept in cages, fathers are leaving tents to find food for their families and not coming back. this is all happening right now, and it's a direct result of the west's complacency. it's a direct result of their not seeing arabs as people worth saving.

it might be hard to compute as a westerner, but this is real. don't let your privilege blind you to your humanity.

I have been a Taylor Swift fan for almost 20 years. I have her posters on my wall, I went to the Eras Tour and saw the movie multiple times in theaters. I own cardigans and vinyls and signed CD's. I was upset when she was dating Matty Healy bc he is a trash human. But fuck. With this half-hearted, completely void of any sort of message story that Taylor posted today about voting... And her silence about anything regarding Palestine... All of this performative activism. Not saying anything of substance. Staying silent while thousands of children are being massacred. Staying silent while tens of thousands of human beings are massacred and millions have their lives destroyed. Honestly, Taylor. I can't quite bring myself to give a fuck about your new album. Or the fact that your movie is coming to streaming (a streaming service with a CEO who supports Israel). At what point is enough, enough? And obviously Miss Billionaire could give less of a fuck about losing a few fans. But it's really disappointing seeing someone you admired fall so far in your eyes. I know she has never been perfect, and there have always been things that she has done that I've disagreed with. But I'm just done. I can't do it anymore. Seeing another stupid fucking post about an album variant, and her just milking her fans for all they are worth just to break another record or make an extra buck just makes my blood boil. This has been stewing for a long time now, but enough is enough. I'm done.

“In 2004 I worked as an intern in Newsweek and had to go through the wires coming in from the Middle East.

The Iraq war was raging. Israel was committing its routine violations and killings.

The images were devastating and unequivocally condemning of both the USA and Israel, but I remember the editors would reject all my picks and demand images of burnt cars or vague images of destruction.

So I brought a hard drive and collected everything they didn't publish.

It was my first live glimpse of the lack of ethics or integrity in most US media.

Not the journalists on the ground, but of the senior editors making the calls - in their self important glass cubicles.

And no, to the cynics out there..it's not all too complicated to discuss on social media.

Social media is the only reason we know what's happening in Palestine.

And the only reason mainstream news has to keep up and sprinkle some actual news now and then.

Meanwhile we are seeing much less footage coming out of Gaza - Israel has been killing off all the journalists.

This is terrifying.”
